This week, it’s all about one man:
Lance “Buddy” Franklin became only the 6th person in the over 100 year history of Australian Rules Football to score 1000 career goals.
It was a tremendous achievement and, as they say, THE CROWD WENT WILD. It was nice that it took place in Sydney so the home fans could celebrate with him. Here is some video of the actual moment:
In other news, the other AFLW Qualifying Final was finally played! So, we will begin with the AFL and then move on to the AFLW.
Welcome to Balls of Steel’s AFL Beat!

Round 2 Recaps
Western Bulldogs 90 – 102 Carlton Blues
The Grand Final runners-up are 0-2 in the season and not looking good. The Blues, however, look great and are much improved from last year!
Here are the highlights:
Sydney Swans 107 – 77 Geelong Cats
The Cats from last week were nowhere to be seen but it was Buddy’s night. It couldn’t have been any other way.
Here are the highlights:
Collingwood Magpies 100 – 58 Adelaide Crows
The Pies are red-hot with a convincing victory over the lowly Crows. Adelaide just might win the Wooden Spoon.
Here are the highlights:
Essendon Bombers 57 – 75 Brisbane Lions
The Lions took care of business on the road against a Bombers team that is quickly spinning out of control. They need a win fast.
Here are the highlights:
Port Adelaide Power 56 – 120 Hawthorn Hawks
The UPSET of the Round goes to the Hawks who went into Adelaide and just pounded the Power. Huge performance and the Hawks may just be back.
Here are the highlights:
Gold Coast Suns 69 – 82 Melbourne Demons
The reigning champs continue their winning ways and are looking good for a repeat.
Here are the highlights:
North Melbourne Kangaroos 74 – 59 West Coast Eagles
Maybe it will be the Eagles that get the Wooden Spoon? They were… not good.
Here are the highlights:
Richmond Tigers 109 – 73 GWS Giants
The Tigers took down the Giants at the MCG. It’s funny how they rebound with a good performance when you think they’re going down.
Here are the highlights:
Fremantle Dockers 55 – 65 St. Kilda Saints
The Saints got a big win on the road against a highly disappointing Dockers team. I truly expected better.

Balls’ Sechs
- The Buddy Franklin story is amazing in and of itself but it is important to note that with rules changing, we may NEVER see another player eclipsing the 1000 goal mark.
- The closest active player is Jack Riewoldt of the Richmond Tigers with 716.
- Incidentally, Jack could catch his cousin Nick Riewoldt soon as Nick only got to 718 in his career.
- It seems there is a pattern emerging of who the good teams are and who the bad teams are. We’ll see if it holds up.
- Carlton continues playing well and is going to be contending for Finals along with Collingwood.
- The Match of the Round next week is Carlton v Hawthorn in a battle of unexpected undefeateds!

AFLW Finals!
Brisbane Lions 70 – 20 Collingwood Magpies
They could have postponed this game for another week and the outcome would have been the same. The Lions are on track to defend their title.
Here are the highlights:

That’s all for this week. See you next week!
Woo hoo! Essendon surges out of last place by…0.1 points!
(I think you have the score wrong on that game, BTW)
A while back I said it was uncanny how Essendon and the Raiders’ previous seasons mirrored each other. I hope that’s not true this year, too.
You are correct. I’ve fixed it. Thanks!
I’d be kinda scared being a player and all those fans ran on the field. But that’s an awesome achievement to get 1K goals
The beautiful part was that everyone behaved themselves and no one got hurt.
There’s a cool story about a fan that lost his wallet after bumping into Geelong’s Zach Tuohy. Tuohy picked it up and followed the fan and gave it back to him.
My Giants are incapable of putting together 4 consecutive quarters of quality play.
It is frustrating when you see them play well and then….
So you mean to tell me that grabbing boobs is OK in the women’s league? Can they pull pantie wedgies like in that US ladies arena football thingy? I am curious.
/ smacks his head for not getting on board sooner
I believe that was an attempt at a boob tackle. Oh, and they commonly pull down their pants in attempting a tackle too.
Women’s league… I did say women’s league right?
/ adverts gaze from current photo
// trusts Ball’s ladies library is fully stocked
Here’s another boob grab:
Oh, sure, everyone’s all smiles here but *I’m* the one who gets kicked out of the softball league…
I could help out here…
Lefty feels neglected.
Too late you looked at it, you’re permanently changed now. And “praying it away” won’t work! Muah ha ha ha ha ha!
Why do I have these feelings?
ta-ta tackle?
