Beerguyrob, our regular open thread host, has decided to go to Nashville to personally root for the Sharks on SunriseSunrise’s and my behalf. He says he’s there for other reasons but that obviously seems impossible. In fact, you get to deal with a string of us open thread bench warmers this week as we try to step in where beerguyrob is faithfully at the ready.
If I were good at filling in for Rob I would mention that we had excitement in Canelo beating Kahn or that the Cavs beat Atlanta and swept the Conference Semifinals or that Tampa Bay moves forward over the Islanders to Round 3. I would probably even break down the baseball games on tonight, but the truth is if it’s your team you already know who they’re playing and if you’re a Braves fan you’ve long stopped reading anything about sports to preserve your dignity.
Tonight the NBA sees Game 4 for the Warriors vs Trail Blazers @ 7:30 PST and the Raptors vs. Heat @ 5:00 PST.
In the NHL we have two potential elimination games. We get the Stars vs. Blues @ 5:00 PST and then some other game… what? Hmm, now what was it? Oh yes, SHARKS vs. PREDS @ 6:00 PST!

Did anyone watch The Daily Show tonight? Was it worth watching?
I gave up on the new Daily Show pretty quickly because without Jon Stewart it wasn’t nearly as good. Also gave up on the Late Late show when they replaced Craigy Ferg with the fat english baby. Also gave up on Colbert’s replacement even though I love Larry Wilmore, he is great, his show’s format was shit. It was like a worse Bill Maher show with a better host. Also just gave up on Colbert on his new show too
To clarify. I don’t mean I gave up on Colbert recently with my “just” I mean i just ditched him after a few weeks of being a good damned pussy and refusing to tell a joke with a bite to it. Everything I have seen in clips since then backs up my choice to not care about any of them
Trevor Noah has been more miss than hit lately and I find myself not really making the time to watch TDS. I watched about 10 minutes tonight and that was enough for me. It’s a shame because the black and Asian guy are pretty funny.
I gave Colbert 3 or 4 months until I gave up. Even Jay Leno thinks Colbert is mayo on white Wonderbread.
Agreed on all counts. Colbert is much better as a caricature of a host than he is an actual host. And I still miss the shit out of Ferguson’s show.

So I can’t shoot a gun or use a bow because I am blind in my right eye. I know this not because I cared to really learn but people keep making me try to learn because I live in WI so I am apparently required to hunt (“Just shoot left handed””‘Fuck you you stupid asshole, it is a gun”), my question is for someone that has been trained to use a gun and has working eyes I guess, Is the trope of somehow not being able to kill someone like 10 ft away because their body is partially covered in body armor a thing, or is that just complete bullshit. Practice enough, and you’ll get the hang of it. In fact, learning to shoot with both hands (PHRASING) is, and aiming with both eyes is good advice.
That would work for handguns, but it would be difficult to shoot rifle or shotgun without switching to left handed. It’s gonna be awfully hard to sight up unless you’ve got some kind of weird owl-neck thing going on.

I have just returned to the hotel from the game. The Goose Island flowed freely, my friends.

The game itself was ridiculous. Nashville played from behind the whole way. Despite my taking some pictures of him for Covalent, Senor Burns was both a positive and negative for the Sharks.
All I wanted for overtime was for it not to go three periods. When the place erupted at the Nashville winner, it sounded like Vancouver in 2011 when they beat the Blackhawks.
I highly recommend seeing an event in a town where you have no stake in the outcome. It makes for a fun watch.
That is awesome! It just looked like such a great feeling in that arena. Unlike the Kings, I have no ill will towards the Preds. They have been great this series and if they weren’t playing MY team I think they have done a great job of playing some serious hockey, As surprising as it is, Nashville fans seemed really into their team. In a genuine sort of way. That seems like it must have been fun!
I am rooting for whoever wins this series the rest of the way I think. Just a lot of teams I don’t like left, which is surprising because all the Canadian teams are out and my hate normally starts with them
The Smashville thing they do is quite fun. An auto body shop has a “Smash the Shark” car out front, and people pay $5 a swing to haul off on it, with proceeds to charity.. Also, they didn’t cut off beer sales – I was able to buy at the start of overtime.
Yeah, BC is a no fun province. It’s actually for the better because Vancouver is full of fucking idiots.

It did seem like a nice city when I visited Vanderbilt. I got a sunburn on my nose though and didn’t get as much of a chance to go checking stuff out because we missed our connection in Cincinnati from Baltimore so we only spent one night there.
So we get closer to the potential reality of a Western Conference Nashville v. Dallas series that no one will give a fuck about.
