Since I am still up, too annoyed and pissed right now to fall asleep, I want to talk movies again.

I love documentaries except there are two different sub sects of documentaries I cannot stand, both of which are relatively new to the genre. The first is the act of turning the documentarian into a part of the story…or as I refer it as…”Michael Moore’ing”. I really detest his films because I think he has an amazing talent, but he turns every single one of his films into about him and his style slams you in the face so damn hard with his personal views.

Every documentary film maker obviously adds their own bias to their films. Its impossible not to do that. I just find that Michael Moore is so fucking over the top with it that is blatantly obvious and he doesn’t even care. Like with his “Roger and Me” film where the entire basis of the film is based on the lie that he could never have a sit down interview with Roger Smith (CEO of GM) which was a baldfaced lie. Furthermore, he made it look like the people of Flint were morons that acted like they didn’t try to save the city’s economy. But it made for a better documentary so fuck everyone else. What bugs me is that there is an entire generation of film makers that follow his style now. Like that jackass that made the “Supersize Me” movie that was equally bullshit.

The other sub genre I can stand is what I call the “Clueless moron documentary” as perfected and on display by Vice. “Documentary Now” episode “Dronez: The Hunt for El Chingon” is a perfect representation of everything I hate about lazy, reality style modern documentaries. And again, this style has influenced a slew of other film makers to do the same lazy shit.
