It’s a long weekend in Canada – Victoria Day – so Canadians get three days to devote to the noble pursuit of finishing the whole 2-4 over the “May 2-4 weekend”.
In Vancouver, we have the added attraction of the Cloverdale Rodeo, with accompanying animal rights protests. Given that PETA & others just got whales banned from the local aquarium, I’m sure those half-wits will be out in full-force.
Myself, I have to spend Saturday night at “Winnie the Pooh & Seussical the Musical Jr.”, watching my six year-old niece and her friends bumble their cute way through memorized lines. Then, 5-pin bowling! At least they have a bar!!

Robin’s nest on my deck, they seem to like the location. They dive bomb the dog and me. Just now one flew close enough to my face to feel the wind. Not sue if he farted or not. Last year when their chicks were learning to fly my dog “helped”…… they never did fly.

My uncle has feeders up at his cabin and there are four or five species, with one being the Rufous (Selasphorus rufus); that one chases off the other ones and will do that when you fill it. The asshole of the hummingbirds.

Honestly for the hummers (giggity) I don’t usually either. For some reason, that day they just held still. I’ve meant for years to set the tripod and set the focus on the feeder and use the remote shutter to get some while in flight….but so far I’ve been too lazy.

Important lesson #1: When preparing to run a 5K when out of shape, don’t forget to stretch. Especially your calves, as they are an important part of jogging/running.
Important lesson #2: If you suddenly have both calves suddenly cramp into adamantium about 1/5 miles in, you might want to consider bowing out gracefully. While walking/limping/FDR walking 3.1 miles for a Finisher’s Medallion may prove you are not a quitter, it may not be worth the sudden pain in your calves and feet as your adjusted gait and impaired muscles may cause some discomfort days after the race.
Important lesson #3: When making homemade pizza, be sure to gently press the toppings into the dough but without smushing the toppings or deforming the dough. This will ensure that all topping cook evenly and will make you pizza extra yummy.
