I don’t believe McCain had any bad intentions. He was a blue-blood and a self-described fuck-up from day one and I admired his style for that. There are some seriously sinister villains in this government but McCain wasn’t one of them, whether you liked everything he did or not. That’s my opinion.
When you champion and vote for shit you know will fuck over millions people and enrich a few is evil in my book and is far from ‘not liking everything he did.’ I somewhat agree, he may have been somewhat less so than assholes such as Rick Santorum, etc.. For being a “maverick” he went party line a majority of time. He did have some redeeming moments with a few pieces of legislation that pissed both extremes off whereas the current crop seems to opt out of anything redeeming.
McCain has been my representation in the Senate my entire adult life. He’s been a poor representative of the best interests of the state, in my opinion, generally working for the wealthiest and just keeping the wheels rolling elsewhere. Then every six years he’s pop up on tv and remind us we need to “complete the danged wall” before going back to hang out with his buddy Lindsay Graham.
On a federal level, he moved the Tea Party into a position of real influence in the GOP by bringing on Sarah Palin. It wasn’t an “evil” move but it was political — a political move with strictly evil results. McCain choosing Palin was a major move that laid the groundwork for Trump.
HIs political legacy is more the result of framing than an actual study of his actions. He helped create the Trump-Russia GOP and the only real shame is that he checked out before he got to see just how much damage this edition of the GOP will do.
Also he did nothing to help the Arizona Cardinals on the field the field performance.
He tried to tie anthrax attacks to Iraq. He voted against MLK day, he verbally sucked MBS’ cock, he helped facilitate and backed a half dozen wars, which ended up killing hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, Yemenis, Palestinians, etc, he Called Asians the G word, he introduced the world to Proto Trump and was part of the Keating Five.
