Well, we are in the deep end of the offseason.
The league has spent the last two weeks stroking itself over pulling off the Super Bowl, and quarterbacks are being shopped around the league like cordwood. We’ve already seen Goff, Stafford & Wentz effectively change teams – officially on March 17 – and there is still the matter of the Jets trying to trade Sam Darnold & the Cowboys figuring out what to do with DAK!

Speaking of Al Hackner, if you have even a slight interest in curling, I recommend checking out the episode of the Netflix show Losers about him and Pat Ryan. Some cool old Brier footage and a lot of discussion of how the sport changed during the 80s and 90s to go from out of shape guys smoking cigarettes and partying every night to a more serious and professional game.
Really, the whole Losers series is pretty good — it’s literally about athletes dealing with failure. They’re not all triumphant comeback tales, either.

So, went to the grocery store for the first time since the Arctic Blast. Temps in the 40s this morning. The thing is done, ok? Unbelievably, it looked like when the pandemic hit last year or when Harvey came in. No dairy, no packaged meat, no cheese, no frozen breakfast stuff, no eggs (they announced over the PA that they were going to have some eggs and 50 or 60 people were lined up). People were loading their carts with bottled water. There was paper towels and asswipe, unlike last year. I’m thinking to myself, the crisis is over, what the fuck? At least there was plenty of rum and scotch at the package store.
