Sharkbait’s Cocktail of the Week: RTFM

Apologies up front for the severely half assed and abridged post this week. I’ve been out of town since last Thursday. I was in a friend’s wedding on Saturday, so I had to travel to Maine for the weekend, and then post wedding, I met up with Mrs Sharkbait (who was at a different wedding the same weekend) and Sharkette for a week’s vacation on the beach in Maine as well.

So that’s where I’ve been, and I’m now kicking myself for not having another post in the hopper ready to go. In a pinch, I figured I’d turn this into another “On The Road” post.

What does this have to do with the acronym RTFM? Well, for those that aren’t familiar with the term, RTFM stands for: Read The Fucking Manual. However, in my case, it stands for Read The Fucking Menu.

We were having dinner at a restaurant beach side when an interesting drink caught my eye: The Shipwreck. It has:

Malibu Pineapple rum

Island rum

Pineapple

Lemonade

What I failed to see in my haste to order was the giant RUM BUCKETS header over that section of the menu

I mean it’s right there.

So I was a little surprised when this arrived:

A literal bucket of booze. I mean I’m not complaining, just a little surprised. Anyway, the best way to describe this is that it tastes like summer. It’s very smooth with no harsh booze flavors. The pineapple starts up front, with the rums making themselves known shortly thereafter. Despite the twin rums that form the base, they don’t take over or dominate the palate. They add a nice undertone that reminds you that you’re drinking a bucket of alcohol. Once you can taste the rums, the rest of the drink stays fairly consisent. However, I did notice the drink start to get a little bit sweeter the more I drank it. Though that could be due to the ice melting and slowly watering down the stronger ingredients, leaving sweetness to become more prevalent.

All in all, a pleasant surprise, both in size and taste. I went looking for a beachy vacation drink and boy did I get one. I know I keep saying I need to play more with rums, and I think attempting to scale this one down is a challenge I’m willing to take on.

Happy Canada Day!

Of all the gearboxes on this site, you’re the best!

Gumbygirl

You are my favorite! Don’t tell the others.

Gumbygirl

Sourry!

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

I live that in Maine $18 will get you a bucket of rum while in Los Angeles it will get you a beer.

Maple Lee Greenwood SINGS for 1 July!

Well, ah’m proud to be a Canadian
Where at least I’m sure I’m soUrry.

Gumbygirl

When we were living in Scotland, there was a bar called the Harmony that was the place all the Americans ended up after a pub crawl- they stayed open late. The last song they played every night was that Lee Greenwood abortion. You haven’t lived until you’ve been in a room full of young, drunk, and homesick Marines singing along, swaying and crying!

scotchnaut

That anecdote hit the sweet spot between ‘funny’ and ‘pathetic’.

Gumbygirl

I think they call that pathos? Or bathos? One of the thoses, for sure!

Yes. A very spiny cactus.

Went to the liquor store on my dog sled
“What aboot the pickup?”, my jizzbag girlfriend said.
Drank shots of whiskey with dad along with some Molson.
Just before I passed out I heard Pops say, “more, son”.

King Hippo

Just finished David’s latest book (excellent, as always). Is sad to note that The Rooster went full Q-anon over the past few years (that wasn’t in the book, but HIPPO DONE HEARD).

BeefReeferLives

Oooo. I need to get that. Sad to hear that about Paul (gotta say, he didn’t sound like the brightest bulb in the box, so not surprising).

BeefReeferLives

Can you keep the bucket to throw up in later??

If so, talk about convenience!!

BrettFavresColonoscopy

If you’re drinking out of a bucket, you’re gonna have a good time.

Until you drink too many buckets, and then you’re gonna have a bad time.

What did I do to deserve this?* Wife and youngest are taking off to Toronto and oldest is running off to his girlfriend’s place for the weekend. I’ve got the house entirely to myself. Woo!

*it was probably the ritualistic goat slaughter in the basement
/that goat had it coming…

BeefReeferLives

Cabrito for dinner at Scotchies tonight!!

Murder and mayhem in North Ontario this weekend!

THIS COCKTAIL OF THE WEEK I CALL IT ASHLII BABBIT BECAUSE THAT THING GOES DOWN EASY AND NO ONE’S COMPLAINING, JUST A LITTLE SURPRISED.

BeefReeferLives

Nice one. (however, IIRC there was plenty of complaining from the faux noise fuckheads about how the ‘rouge black cop shot a true patriot and veteran with no warning & how he needs to be investigated and tried for murder!!!11!!1!)

As I have stated elsewhere, interesting how suddenly the very same people screeching about ‘backing the blue’ started attacking the blue..

SonOfSpam

Also, this is trending on Twitter for some reason, and I’d never seen it before.

These two shoulda done an international tour together. This is FIRE.

Great post Sharky-B. Gonna load one of these into a fishbowl and spend Saturday floating in the pool while the boy jumps off the diving board repeatedly.

SonOfSpam

a) Pineapple and rum are made for each other and that drink sounds dangerous
3) VERY happy to be well past the “go to weddings all the time” age

Brick Meathook

You’re entering the “go to funerals” age.

SonOfSpam

You ain’t lying

BrettFavresColonoscopy

You know what works better than expected? Pineapple juice and (cheap) bourbon.

SonOfSpam

Will have to give that a go.

TO THE LIQUOR STORE!

BrettFavresColonoscopy

It’s my go to for “yeah I’ll play craps in the morning” Vegas move.
