Subsequent GTD reflections

Hello there fellow DFO’er.  Hope you’re well today.  And thanks for coming back to see last weeks comments of the week as decided by my brain.  There’s no reason as to why some comments make it and others don’t. Seriously. There isn’t.

This weeks cheesy motivational quote is:
The belief in a supernatural source of evil is not necessary. Men alone are quite capable of every wickedness [in bed].
Joseph Conrad

There’s a Satan and sex joke there, that I just can’t get to connect, so someone much funnier and smarter than I can make it below.

As a reminder, Sunday comments stand alone and Monday comments will go on the next week’s post.

Note that during the offseason, I’ll probably look at the Sunday posts.

Without further ado, here are the comments of the week.

I’m not even properly old yet and I still managed to make my right knee sore somehow, probably from the multitudes of ladder climbing involved with last Friday’s ceiling fan DIY. It’s not bad, I’ve still been horseback riding and walking up hills and such, but still seems like a good idea to ice it with a bag of frozen corn, and despite the bizarreness of having my riding lesson tomorrow rained out, in California, in June, I shouldn’t complain and should take the opportunity to rest it.

Lesser footy has a crime beat watch. Today, it’s another United player, Antony.

The victim, his ex girlfriend, says she was attacked by Antony in four different episodes, and in one of them, she claims to have had the help of two Manchester United doctors.

The victim adds that Antony threatened to kill himself after fights between the couple, and threatened to kill her if he saw her with someone else.

That piece of shit should have spent more time on his weak foot and less time being a shit stain on society.

Found a funny:

The Indians on a remote reservation in Oklahoma asked their new chief if the coming winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was a chief in modern society, he had never been taught the old secrets. When he looked at the sky, he couldn’t tell what the winter was going to be like.

Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he told his tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect firewood to be prepared. But, being a practical leader, after several days, he got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked. “Is the coming winter going to be cold?”

“It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold.” The meteorologist at the weather service responded.

So the chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more firewood in order to be prepared.

A week later, he called the National Weather Service again. “Does it still look like it is going to be a very cold winter?”

“Yes.” The man at National Weather Service again replied. “It’s going to be a very cold winter.”

The chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of firewood they could find.

Two weeks later, the chief called the National Weather Service again. “Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?”

“Absolutely.” The man replied. “It’s looking more and more like it is going to be one of the coldest winters we’ve ever seen.”

“How can you be so sure?” The chief asked.

The weatherman replied. “The Indians are collecting a shitload of firewood”

June ’23 has been absolutely rapacious with respect to deaths. I’ve just sent a messenger pigeon to Robert Caro’s place advising him to double-lock his doors until July 1st.

“Elizabeth Holmes’ attorneys say that she won’t be able to afford $250 a month in restitution payments when she’s released from a Texas prison.

Assets that the government froze at the onset of a prosecution might be available for restitution,” Daniel Richman, a professor at Columbia Law School and a former federal prosecutor in Manhattan, said. “But generally, most restitution is never paid.”

According to the original restitution order, Holmes and Balwani have been ordered to pay… they also owe $125 million in restitution to Rupert Murdoch, a Theranos investor.”

I’m starting to see the right wing talking points coalesce around “motive”. And the defense is going to be “he did it because he just really likes souvenirs, he wanted mementos of his time in office.”

You know who else liked keeping “mementos” of the past around?

comment image

Horatio Cornblower

The sad thing is that part of me believes that was his motive, because he’s just that goddamn dumb.

Also the motive doesn’t matter; he did take the documents, he did refuse to turn them over, and he did obstruct efforts to get them back. Allegedly.

Honestly, it’s the fault of the government that Trump was allowed a clearance in the first place.

Electing him President was basically entrapment.

“Men alone are quite capable of every wickedness [in bed]”

…lays the horn onto a Chevy Volt driver that has done nothing wrong…

Hey, I’ve got a Chevy Volt! But the last two times someone honked at me it was definitely justified.

By the way, plug-in hybrids are the tits. Ours gets about 40 miles on a charge, which is usually as much as we need for a day (under the right conditions it’ll get us to the beach and back without having to switch to gas). We charge it overnight when the power rate is lowest, so our “fuel” costs for the car are about 1/3 as much as gasoline.

BugEyedBoo

The missus and I are looking to get a new car in a month or two. I was lobbying hard for an electric vehicle, but the missus fears change. I wasn’t really a big fan of hybrids, because more moving parts can’t be good, but I am willing to give it a try. It looks like PHEV hybrids are $10K more than plain old hybrid vehicles, though.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

A brand new car? How exciting!

If you’re a two-car family, I think electric is absolutely the way to go. You can use it for your day-to-day, and then use the gas car on long trips. We only have the one car so having one that’s both is really best for us, but if we had two that’s what we’d do.

BugEyedBoo

I think we’re trading in both of our cars, although I do like my Acura. Both of us WFH, so an extra car is basically just gathering dust.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

How funny, that’s pretty much exactly what we did.

ballsofsteelandfury

It depends on where you live and if you have good access to charging stations. If you’re in the boonies, you’d have to have charging at home and that would add to the cost.

blaxabbath

Wife made salad last night from her aerogarden produce. Do we even need to rinse these? All powered by our rooftop solar system, btw.

I’m reading about aerogarden and it basically looks like hydroponics but instead of weed you grow vegetables? That’s a pretty savvy pivot by the industry in the wake of legalization becoming so widespread.

BugEyedBoo

Vegetables too. Big Fuckin’ Greenhouse got hit by a tornado this year. https://www.dailystandard.com/archive/2023-04-03/stories/47375/tornado-hits-8-injured .

ETA: Why do I mention that? We passed it coming back from a visit to BGSU, and that greenhouse was huge.

It’s a super simple automated hydroponics system. Of course it includes lights (which is big) but I the controls they have in place to maintain the ph of the water. That’s the biggest headache with maintenance on my flood systems (especially outdoors) in the summer is that I want to go away for three days but when I return, the whole system is shot. This is all-in-one when you add the food (it’s like MiracleGrow). So the only thing you really need to watch is the water level (we have the bluetooth that’ll tell you but I look daily and it says it right on the display).

I’ve built a few flood irrigation setups and this thing isn’t anything revolutionary but it is automatic and perfect for home use. It’s basically failproof and efficient. As far as the results go, it’s like a being a real farmer. I bought it for my wife because she isn’t interested in checking ph or monitoring the food. This is easy — throw in 4 tomato pods, set the garden to Tomatoes (it controls the water/lights), fill the water, add 1/2 capful of food per pod, and watch. Move the lights up and down if you want to feel like you’re helping.
