INT. RECORDING STUDIO – DAY
Once again, all the lights are…wait, it turns out the lights are actually on this week. Though, as usual, it remains completely silent. DJ 3000′ boots up…
…to see a familiar face lounging on the sofa, a textbook open in his lap.
DJ 3000′: HEY! I DIDN’T EXPECT YOU TO ALREADY BE HERE.
HUNTER RENFROW: [glances up] Oh, yeah. I have a social studies exam coming up and figured I could work pretty efficiently here.
DJ 3000′: WHAT’S THE MODULE THIS SEMESTER?
HUNTER RENFROW: Ancient Cultures.
DJ 3000′: AH. I’D OFFER TO HELP, BUT…YOU KNOW. DIFFERENT TIMELINE AND ALL THAT.
HUNTER RENFROW: It’s cool, I don’t terribly mind learning about this stuff. It’s hard to appreciate fiction about alternative histories without knowing what happened in the real one. I will say that all that Cleopatra and Marc Anthony and Augustus Caesar stuff sounds like something a bunch of writers at HBO would have come up with.
DJ 3000′: YEAH, WE’VE GOT SOME STUFF LIKE THAT TOO. LIKE, THE STORY IN THAT TV SHOW SHOGUN IS SUSPICIOUSLY SIMILAR TO WHAT REALLY HAPPENED IN JAPAN DURING THAT ERA. SO MUCH SO THAT I’M SUSPICIOUS THAT JAMES CLAVELL MIGHT HAVE BEEN ONE OF MY FELLOW TRAVELERS.
HUNTER RENFROW: We’re doing the AFC East for Request Line this week, right?
DJ 3000′: YEAH.
HUNTER RENFROW: I was thinking about Good Friday and all that, and how the Brady/Belichick years were a lot like the Roman Empire around the time of Jesus Christ.
DJ 3000′: REALLY. HOW SO?
HUNTER RENFROW: Well, you’ve got your New England Patriots, who were obviously Rome. Completely dominant in every way.
DJ 3000′: OKAY.
HUNTER RENFROW: And then you’ve got the Miami Dolphins, who were like all the different provinces. They hated Rome but they couldn’t really do anything about them, so they mostly just paid tribute and got on with their lives.
DJ 3000′: I GUESS, SURE.
HUNTER RENFROW: And then you’ve got the Buffalo Bills, who were like the various groups that rebelled against Rome’s rule, including the Christians, but kept getting put down again and again and fed to lions and stuff.
DJ 3000′: THIS IS TURNING INTO A FAIRLY TORTUOUS ANALOGY.
HUNTER RENFROW: But I’m not sure how the Jets fit in. There’s not really much comic relief in this [pats textbook] or any of the biblical stuff.
DJ 3000′: THERE’S ACTUALLY A BOOK CALLED “LAMB” THAT ADDS ANOTHER DISCIPLE WHO FILLS IN SOME OF THE GAPS IN THE GOSPELS AND ACTS AS COMIC RELIEF. IT’S BY AN AUTHOR NAMED CHRISTOPHER MOORE, HE’S ALL THE RAGE IN THE CLUBHOUSE RIGHT NOW.
HUNTER RENFROW: [whirls around to regard DJ 3000′ with widened eyes] Clubhouse?
DJ 3000′: OH JEEZ WOULD YOU LOOK AT THE TIME WE’VE GOT TO GET ON THE AIR.
HUNTER RENFROW: Wait, no, I want to know more about this clubhouse…
The “ON AIR” display lights up and DJ 3000′ fires up the “Hunter Renfrow” voice module.
DJ 3000′: Gosh folks, it looks like it’s time for another divisional edition of Request Line – featuring the AFC East. You all know the drill at this point, we’re looking for songs that relate to the teams, history, and players of the New England Patriots, the Miami Dolphins, the Buffalo Bills, and the New York Jets. I’ll get us started with a self-contained DOUBLE SHOT of Bill-y Bragg’s “A New England”.
Today’s theme is the AFC East. We’re looking for songs that have anything to do with the teams in the division (New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, New York Jets). Please post links as “https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lb25jQ06J_4” and they should embed in the comments after you refresh. Last week’s puzzle answer of “Gotta Boogie” by Weird Al Yankovic was (sort of) solved by SonOfSpam. Off we go!

Bills plus Tua Tagovailoa’s memory of…well, basically anything.

The rare self-contained TRIPLE SHOT (Bills location, Patriots quarterback, and Patriots ownership)

I often refer to the Patriots as the “Patsies”, and boy howdy they did a-plenty of foolin’ around with the rules of the game.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out how that clue has anything to do with Paul Mc Cartney! I must be dumb. This song won’t make me any smarter!

Did the link work correctly? It’s not so much of a Paul McCartney reference as a Wings one – Linda was a member of the band as well and “Jet” was a single off of the album Band on the Run.
Lololol, I didn’t click on it. Told you I’m a dumb bunny!
Oh, you’re really missing out! Linda really puts on a showcase of vocal virtuosity in the video.
It was very underhanded of me to use it as a genuine link when you’re all used to decoding the text.
I got the name Jacob out of it, totally went down the wrong bunny trail!
Fun fact: Did you know Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings???

About the Bills, but also how Bill Belichick became a different person as a talking head.
So; a kinda, semi, quasi, double shot. Sorta…
Dan Marino

In case the reference is forgotten/unclear:
And now of course I realize this works even better for OJ Simpson but I’m thinking I could do an entire Request Line edition dedictated to his hellbound ass alone.

Apologies to BeefRiverLives, his guess of “Jet” by Wings below was the correct puzzle answer.
Woo!
“The Jets are the NFL’s Bruce Springsteen. Both hail from New Jersey, and have been making grown men cry for over 50 years”

But that’s beautiful as a Patriots reference; well done!
Tua’s still the QB for the Dolphins, IIRC.

Jesus died for my right to repost a song.
Already tried that one….
(though, given the video linked to, I’m thinking the puzzle must have something to do with the Patriots, as Paul probably wants all copes of that videotape & the accompanying audio destroyed)
That’s the one!
Don’t you forget about me…choosing this song

The Steven Van Zandt documentary on HBO was really good. And so is this song.

It sure was. Never realized he was such a SJW. Really cool stuff…
He’s a real one. And the story behind this song was awesome too.

Also, your old pal Brocky got Brockied (Brockyed,) earlier today.
Anyone wanna take a stab at how?
A Flock of Seagulls
This song always reminds me of vice city, which is basically Miami, where the dolphins play, so it fits

Puzzle Hint: This is not a leetspeak clue; i.e. it doesn’t translate into an actual word/text.
Puzzle song?

No, I’ll drop a hint into the main thread.
I’m so sorry, youtube wasn’t loading properly so the first time I saw this it was showing as something else. This is the correct answer!
Woo!

You’re a cheeky bastard.

Oh my God, please make him stop dancing! MY EYES!!!
He and his band were really suited for the radio, not from their looks, but the cringe moves.
I woulda saved for Kubes!
Lookit me, I even spared you the singer’s gross complexion!
(also this could be a double shot, given the “Reich” aspect for the P*ts)

Along with “We Need a Bigger Dumpster” the above song was one of the inspirations for the divisional-themed editions of Request Line.
Point being that once you’re a Jet, you’re a Jet for life.
Another take.

ETA: it wasn’t today, but it wasn’t that long ago that I found out that this particular West Side Story song wasn’t originally performed by Alice Cooper.
One of the things I really love about this site is that I can tell what day it is by what has been posted, and I am sad to say I have actually had to rely on that a couple of times to orient myself with reality. Like just now.
I’m genuinely honored.
joe namath i mean come on

While Mike Brown enjoys this band’s music, he remains unimpressed with their profligate nature.
And let’s DOUBLE SHOT this up for Broadway Joe.
