Monday Morning Mock Draft: Get In Loser, We’re Going Wayback

Guten Tag drones.

Finally had a weekend without work or social obligations, so I was outside getting dirty trying to get the yard clean.  I would say that, so far, things are a draw, at best.

We still need a mock draft, however, so I dipped into my notes and saw that I had made one to rip off Rikki’s idea from last year, discography from bands in the 1980s, and run it back as “discography from bands in the 1990s” which is a totally different thing that I came up with all by myself and not something I’m hammering out as quickly as these fingers can type, (fixes 8 typos in last two sentences), so I can get to drinking.

The thing about day-drinking is that if you, like me, prefer your beers 6.5%+ ABV, there’s really no such thing.  Once you have two you are committed to doing nothing else all day but drink more, and since some of my yard work today involved a chainsaw I had to put that off and right now I am pretty fucking thirsty.

So, as I was saying, I was totally ready to run with my totally original and not at all ripped off from RTD idea for 1990 Band Discographys but then I was thinking about it while in the shower, (that visual image is a little treat for all of you, for keeping me from this delicious beer I have sitting in front of me), and I came to the realization that a lot of 1990’s music “sucked” as the kids say, and I didn’t want to do it.

So I switched it to the 1970s.

And now it’s 12:36 am and I’m finding that I lost half the post when the site crashed, so just

and also I took Led Zeppelin with the first pick and had some witty jokes here about their 4 great albums in the 70’s and the one from ’82 that doesn’t count and also how John Bonham tried to kick heroin by doing things like drinking 4 quadruple Bloody Marys at breakfast, which is not a great idea but in fall fairness he never did do heroin again.

Also the featured image wouldn’t work and I’m certainly not trying that again.  But it was the cover of one of the albums.

Motorhead. I don’t officially get Ace of Spades, but I do get Overkill.

BC Dick

I love ace of spades man. You don’t have to be official.
Four horsemen kind of reminds me of that one

Ok, I know they were bigger in the 80s, but their good shit was all in the 70s.

Little Queen (1977)
Dog and Butterfly (1978)

SonOfSpam

He doesn’t solicit, he makes them smell this rag.

scotchnaut

Can’t recall a single one of his 70’s albums, tbh…

King Hippo

As a neutral, this match was like watching dolphin rape.

SonOfSpam

Cmon, it was not that sexy.

scotchnaut

How has he not occurred to me before just now?

Bob Marley

/an exchange I had with my oldest skull fracture boy a few years ago

Senor Weaselo

I’m here to obligatorily take Emerson, Lake, & Palmer.

Emerson, Lake, & Palmer; Tarkus; Trilogy; Brain Salad Surgery; Works Vol. 1 & 2; and Love Beach

Okay, not as crazy about Love Beach, but more importantly, not In the Hot Seat!

Brick Meathook

John Prine

John Prine (1971)
Diamonds in the Rough (1972)
Sweet Revenge (1973)
Common Sense (1975)
Bruised Orange (1978)
Pink Cadillac (1979)

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

The tiniest bit further inside the post and that would have ricocheted off the keeper’s back and in.

SonOfSpam

For pick 3, I’m gonna go with this fella who was an A+ artist and (apparently) a D- son.

Marvin Gaye’s 70s output is badass:

That’s the Way Love Is (1970)
What’s Going On (1971)
Trouble Man (1972)
Let’s Get It On (1973)
I Want You (1976)
Here, My Dear (1978)

If it seems like albums 2-4 are doing the heavy lifting, well, yeah.

SonOfSpam

Oops, forgot one:

Diana & Marvin (with Diana Ross) (1973)

Senor Weaselo

The estate has sued you for taking this as your pick.

Brick Meathook

The Grateful Dead

Workingman’s Dead (1970)
American Beauty (1970)
Grateful Dead (1971)
Europe ‘72 (1972)
History of the Grateful Dead, Volume One (Bear’s Choice) (1973)
Wake of the Flood (1973)
From the Mars Hotel (1974)
Blues for Allah (1975)
Steal Your Face (1976)
Terrapin Station (1977)
Shakedown Street (1978)

scotchnaut

*Extremely long, pointless jam ensues, Bill Walton cums in his pants, injures his ankle, is out for 13 months

Brick Meathook

The Grateful Dead have:

The most Top 40 albums on the Billboard 200 (66) in history
The most charted albums on the Billboard 200 (82) in history
Have played to more than 25 million people live, the most in history
Are the most recorded act of any kind in history
Are the second highest grossing band in history (Rolling Stones are #1)

yet

Had only one Top 40 singles hit

Gumbygirl

Nobody picked Sparks? I take Sparks!

scotchnaut

“That’s your best shot?”

-P. Benatar, music critic

Gumbygirl

I’m a real tough cookie.

scotchnaut

[tries to impress Gumbygirl]

Hey girl, love is a battlefield [begins whistling while walking away from the camera]

NotShogunButShogun

Why not? I take Rush

scotchnaut

Can anyone in the 70’s (aside from ABBA) match the three album run of

The Clash

Give Them Enough Rope

London Calling

?

Gumbygirl

Sandinista came out in 1980- that’s the last year of the 70’s!

SonOfSpam

London Calling wasn’t released in the USA and Canada until January 1980.

Can I get a ruling on this?

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

It’s halftime.

They’re a UK band, so the UK release date is what matters and that’s in December of 1979, so it’s a THUMBS UP from me.

scotchnaut

If releases in north ‘merica is all that counts to pedants, well yes. But it was released in the home country The Britain on December 14th of ’79.

SonOfSpam

Yeah but at least one of our countries fought a whole-ass war to get free from the limeys. No idea where I am going with this, will bail now.

scotchnaut

Iggy Pop was a force of (heroin-fueled) nature!

Fun House 70

Raw Power 73

(slight respite of four years because drugs, so much drugs. just a ton of drugs)

The Idiot 77

Lust For Life 77 (Carnival BoatFuckers using this tune for one of their ads will never be not funny)

Kill City 77

New Values 79

Gumbygirl

He’s worth a million in prizes

Doktor Zymm

I should be eating a delicious scone right about now, but I left the bag containing said scones on a table at a Hyatt and ants happened. Fuckers were quick and managed to run up my arms in the few seconds while I was peering into the bag and mentally cursing, but those died by being flicked into oblivion pretty quickly. Damn ants

Bogdanski

https://youtu.be/KRFpQuRF7YQ?si=uy0GkiNMW4l97vzZ
Though I’m sure you don’t want ants

SonOfSpam

2nd pick, and you should all be ashamed of yourselves for waiting this long…recent birthday-haver Stevie Wonder.

Signed, Sealed & Delivered (1970)
Where I’m Coming From (1971)
Music of My Mind (1972)
Talking Book (1972)
Innervisions (1973)
Fulfillingness’ First Finale (1974)
Songs in the Key of Life (1976)

Look at those last three. LOOK AT THEM. Actually, listen to them instead.

Here’s one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCgsmUNNOKM&pp=ygUQc3RldmllIHdvbmRlciBhcw%3D%3D

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

While this is an excellent pick, I have many other things I should be much more ashamed of than not making it. Like that hit and run outside of Dearborn.

Gumbygirl

.

1000004905
Senor Weaselo

Man, we all should’ve seen Stevie.

But he can’t see us!

/Stole that joke from Padre Weaselo at NAMM

SonOfSpam

Not gonna lie, was getting nervous reading the first 3 letters of that organization.

SonOfSpam

“Nashville to host 2030 Super Bowl”

Gross. Nothing against DonT’s Tits, but the state (and Nashville specifically) should be ground up and used to feed chickens.

2Pack
NotShogunButShogun

AC/DC. Gives me all of the Bon Scott era.

SonOfSpam

So you’re just gonna leave The Rolling Stones for me to swipe this late?

Man, I feel like I just stole Tom Brady and got a handy that same day.

Sticky Fingers (1971)
Exile on Main St. (1972)
Goats Head Soup (1973)
It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll (1974)
Black and Blue (1976)
Some Girls (1978)

Admittedly they started better than they finished, BUT STILL.

SonOfSpam

But Some Girls!

ok it sucks

Gumbygirl

I like It’s Only Rock and Roll. Not a fan of the post Mick Taylor/ Ron Wood era.

scotchnaut

The Stones should be admired for their longevity (I guess?) but not for the consistent quality of their work. That Glam Rock bandwagon they eagerly jumped onto because Marc Bolan was top of the pops? Just pathetic.

scotchnaut

Canada has finally broken through!*

*this is not a repeat from 1812

scotchnaut

“Watercress sandwich with the crusts removed? No, ok. Watercress sandwich with the crusts removed? No, ok. Watercress sandwich with the crusts removed? No, ok.”

-Horatio, at the beginning of the buffet line

scotchnaut

Canada finally breaks thru vs the plucky Danes!

Senor Weaselo

The Whiskey War is back on the menu!

2Pack

Second round selection, Supertramp

https://youtu.be/iaxAZYQB44o?is=5P_CkGmygZIU9YvV

yeah right

Frank Zappa which nets me the majority of his discography.

scotchnaut

He just got VAR’ed vs Denmark and he’s buried in the hockey wasteland that is San Jose but Macklin Celebrini is a name you’re going to hear for the next 20 years.

edit: very cool of Crosby to advocate for Celebrini’s captaincy. (Sid is still a whiny baby tho) He probably did it in a very annoying, cloying voice

2. Neil Young. This may be a little rushed but the clock was ticking so I needed to get my card in.

BrettFavresColonoscopy

Ok I’ll be a good MOT and observe the Sabbath.

Also gets me a little 90s coverage 😉

scotchnaut

You want 70’s and 90’s? How about a little-known fella by the name of David Robert Jones.

Hunky Dory 71

Ziggy 72

Aladdin 73

Diamond Dogs 74

Young Americans 75

Station to Station 76

Heroes 77

and then

Black Tie White Noise 93

The Buddha of Suburbia 93

Earthling 97

Gumbygirl

I looove Diamond Dogs. This would have been a good pick for the weirdest song minidraft the other day

2Pack

My first round choice is Foghat.
Now with more cow bell…

scotchnaut

I was going to save them for later!

BC Dick

Bob Seger. All sorts of good 70s albums. I think Mongrel would be my pick of the litter

Gumbygirl

The title song is a banger, the rest of the album is a mess.

BugEyedBoo

Steely Dan gives you everything they did up to and including Aja. After that, Gaucho is kind of mediocre and everything after Gaucho sucks.

Brocky

My first pick, pink Floyd

Dark side of the moon, wish you were here, animals, and the wall (the album not the movie)

When you hear the phrase “floyd” you think of the seventies

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

[considers Bob Dylan as a pick]

[looks up his 1970’s discography]

[goes back to drawing board]

Gumbygirl

Yeah, but Blood on the Tracks and Desire are masterpieces.

scotchnaut

I think the key to having a great discography is to keep it short: maybe some drugs will pull your band apart or maybe something as simple as introducing a Yoko variable to the equation. ‘Not bothering to properly refuel’ worked marvelously for these guys

Skynyrd just did 5-

(pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd) 1973
Second Helping 1974
Nuthin’ Fancy1975
Gimee Back My Bullets 1976
Street Survivors 1977

BrettFavresColonoscopy

Rockers are aways great on the take off but often can’t stick the landing

Gumbygirl

They were flying high for awhile, until it all came crashing down.

BrettFavresColonoscopy

I’ll get the Led out and get almost all of their best albums

scotchnaut

“Bitchin’ Blair Witchin’” is an underrated one though.

BrettFavresColonoscopy

I’m blaming this on the 70s/90s confusion. But also no rules WOOOOOO

The Right Reverend Electric Mayhem

Queen. The weakest of their 1970s albums still gave us Fat Bottomed Girls, Bicycle Race and Don’t Stop Me Now.

Correction. Queen and Queen II: Cruise Control were weaker than Jazz overall. Still, bangers to be found

Brocky

Damn it this was going to be my first pick.

I was likely named after a member of the band. So I’m biased

Gumbygirl

Your name is Mercury?

2Pack

Yeah Jazz jumped the shark with me for them… Liked pretty much everything previous.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

1. The Who. This gets me:

Live At Leeds (1970)
Who’s Next (1971)
Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncy (1971) (Compliation Album)
Quadrophenia (1973)
The Who By Numbers (1975)
Who Are You (1978)

BrettFavresColonoscopy

So are we doing the 70s or the 90s? Or to be safe should we take Menudo?

ballsofsteelandfury

With the second overall pick, the Ghost of TWBS picks:

The greatest band in the world (according to him)

Green Day!

https://youtu.be/A1OqtIqzScI?si=VCmXKaIgTJAmiEZB

ballsofsteelandfury

With the first overall pick, I select:

Oasis

The biggest band in the world!

https://youtu.be/bx1Bh8ZvH84?si=0xtl7Tbe9Lo38bNp

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

So I switched it to the 1970s.

ballsofsteelandfury

Like we follow rules around here…
