Good morning, I hope you are well. I’m most likely already up due to a teething toddler and the fact that teh Mighty Fulham is the early game today! I will get to that later.
This past week was teh start of the Champions League and we around the DFO futbol water cooler were discussing adopting a team for the site. We are juvenile and childish.
Yes, I’m down for some UCL post—OMG there’s like 20 games every matchday! We should title every post “Fun with Young Boys”. – Don T
I have been laughing all day at imagining going into the library, typing “Young Boys streams” into Google, then running like a Marinovich – King Hippo
I think The Vatican got first dibs on Young Boys.
Fuck it; let’s adopt. – Don TI’m Balls Deep on Young Boys! – Ballsofsteelandfury
So there you have it we have adopted BSC Young Boys from Bern, Switzerland.
“We” will be providing updates of our new beloved Young Boys who play in the Swiss Super League which is rated the 12th highest ranked league on the continent. “We” are doing pretty fucking good so far this year and are in 1st and are also undefeated. Normally I would complain about backing a front runner but we just love Young Boys and the way that they play.
Here are some of the Young Boys
From Wikipedia: In 1897, brothers Max and Oscar Schwab, Hermann Bauer and Franz Kehrli studied at the University of Bern. After hosting a game of football with the Basel Old Boys Association playing against FC Bern, they founded the Fussballclub Young Boys on 14 March 1898. The four of them chose yellow and black to be the club coloUrs.
So now we know how the club got its name. This weekend “we” take on FC Basel who is currently sitting in third. IThis is a club that I have heard of as usually they’re the Swiss League representative in the Champions League. This game will be played in Bern at “our” home ground The Stade de Suisse Wankdorf. That’s right commentists our Young Boys play in stadium Wankdorf!
We are a green club! Wankdorf has 7,000 solar panels on it’s roof and generates power which is superb! You can feel the power coming from the Young Boys.
I did not use incognito mode for research so if the authorities take me away you guys know why.
Enough about “our” newly adopted team let’s get to the leagues we actually can see on our tv’s and computers.
Last time I wrote the Saturday thread I completely forgot La Liga and my Spanish speaking overlords were not impressed, especially a certain gentleman in Pasadena….
Girona hosts Athletico Madrid who are surprisingly in 10th place right now. The Gironese? are currently in 5th and would love to stay in the race for a Europa League spot.
About Girona, when you fly discount airlines on the continent they advertise like they are going to the major city but they use tiny airports miles away from your destination. At times this is beneficial as I lived a 20 pound cab ride from Glasgow “Prestwick”, whereas it is not even near Glasgow proper. Well Girona has one of these out of the way landing strips. Your ticket says Barcelona yet you are 90 kms from it. Girona has nothing, it is an industrial run down city with very little to offer and spending 36 hours there consisted of trying to find a bar and sitting there for a day and a half. So cultural! Moral of the story is that the reason those airfares are so cheap is that you aren’t dropped where you intend to be and have to pay bus or train fare to get to where you want which is usually the difference in a normal airline to a normal airport.
Real Madrid hosts Espanyol in the late game. You can buy more FCB stuff at Espanyol’s stadium that gear from their own team. Seriously. Madrid is 2 pts back of Barca and I still detest them with all of my soul even though Ronaldo is gone.
Only 3 games in Italy today and none of them intrigue me.
In Germany however the late game is Schalke v Bayern Munich and I’ll be watching that instead of the English game. There’s been some problems in Germany lately between the supporters clubs and the leagues. The groups think that the game is getting too commercial and they will continue to protest the way the leagues are headed. If you are unaware about the 50 +1 rule and how the Bundesliga does things then click here. It is very interesting how things are done in Germany and the league is still one of the best in the world,
Bayern is in 1st, water is wet.
PSG is in 1st, the earth is not flat.
In Belarus BATE Borisov is still in 1st and it is looking like a long winter for FC Torpedo Minsk supporters. (They look fun)
To Old Blighty!
The early game available on NBCZSNFOXESPN1 at 6:30 DFO time is Teh Mighty Fulham v the Moose Hornets of Watford. Watford has been phenomenal this season and I did not see that coming. They come in to this match with 4 wins to just one loss. Howevah Mr. Clint Dempsey will be honoUred at Craven Cottage so the place will be bouncing. Mitrovic has 4 goals this year and it is just a matter of time until all these new players settle in and takeover the world. In Slavisa we trust.
Put this in a spoon and let me smoke it. Dempsey was unbelievable for Fulham.
In the 9 o’clock (DFO time) window we have me eating Toaster Strudels because I went grocery shopping stoned and haven’t had these in years. The frosting is worth the 2 dollars by itself!
Burnley faces surprising Bournemouth at Turf Moor. Yeah Right will be incredibly pleased with how the season has started as the Cherries look to be the real deal. At the beginning of the season I figured that Burnley would be strecthed thin due to having played in the Europa League.
Man City visits Cardiff City and hopefully will win 10-0 because Neil Warnock is an asshat and deserves to be relegated by Christmas. Fuck you Neil you classless trashbag.
Palace and Newcastle tangle and boy would it be nice for the Eagles to beat the barcodes and keep them at 1 pt.
Foxy Footy hosts Huddersfield Town and I have had enough of Huddersfield and it’s time for them to go back down to never be seen again.
Liverpool welcome Southampton which will be the game that I’ll be watching. The Reds have demolished teams so far and will look to continue this trend against the Saints. Sane has been the surprise for me as he seems to be in the right place at the right time and has been lethal this term.
In the last fixture of this time slot Wolves travel to Manchester to take on the Mourinhos. Should Wolves win they will jump up the ladder and the misery will continue at Old Trafford. I would like that. Wakezilla believes that Woodward must go to start the change and then Jose would be soon to follow.
The late game is Spurs and Brighton at the American Express Stadium. Spurs have singlehandedly screwed my FF team so I will not waste my time.
Enjoy your morning, I predict my neighboUrs will be woken up by my yelling by the 10th minute.
Young Boys play on Sunday……
