Let’s start with the good stuff.
Patrick Mahomes is an absolute monster. There may not be a more entertaining PASSER in the NFL. His amazing frog croaks, ridiculous throws and insane improvisations have been the highlights of the league. Nobody plays with the swagger this kid is dropping every week. He has managed to make the Chiefs exciting after the years of dink-and-dunk Alex Smith.
Tyreek Hill has been a terror. He’s like a mixture of the Road Runner and a domestic abuser. He seems open on every play and is always about to break a long play.
This has been the most explosive team in the league week-in and week-our, and they have absolutely been the most fun squad to watch. Andy Reid has unleashed Mahomes, Hill, Kareem Hunt and the rest, and has even gotten use out of my fantasy nemesis, Sammy Watkins. It’s incredibly impressive.
Then there’s the bad stuff.
This is one of the most penalized team in the league, and Mahomes is coming off of a 3 pick, 2 fumble game that was really out of character, but worrying. He looked like he was trying to do too much, and got caught. Still, not a great feeling going through your bye week. The defense also looked BAAAAAD on Monday night, in the most fun game I’ve watched in years.
Overall, this has been a fantastic start to the season for the Chiefs. The late bye means that they really need the time this week to rest their weary bones and get healthy for the rest of the season, and it seems like it came at the right time, after that all-timer Monday.
Mahomes is on a record-setting, Warner-esque pace this season and isn’t slowing down, and their only 2 losses are to certain playoff teams. They should cruise to the playoffs this season, with the Chargers playing in front of an empty stadium and the Raiders and Broncos terrible.
Andy Reid should have a chance to add to his long resume of playoff fuckups.
