SWING SHIFT DISK JOCKEY: …and closing things out with “Crimson and Clover” by Tommy James and the Shondells. That’s it for me for today, folks. We’ve got a special treat coming up in the next hour, Super Bowl, um, participant Cam Newton will be taking over to take your requests and give your favorite songs a spin. You want to say hello and lead us into the break, Cam?
CAM NEWTON: We’ll be back.
Cut to commercial break. When the “ON AIR” light comes on, Cam sits silently, scowling.
PRODUCER: (through earpiece) Cam, you want to say something? Maybe introduce yourself, say hello to all the listeners out there?
CAM: Nope.
PRODUCER: All right, all right, that’s fine. Maybe we just open up with some music, we’ve got Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” all queued up, just hit the button to get it started.
CAM: [sits with his arms folded and does nothing]
PRODUCER: What’s the matter? Go ahead, give it a spin, our listeners love it.
CAM: [shakes head]
PRODUCER: Aw, come on, Cam. It’s a great song! You don’t like it?
CAM: Got outplayed, bro.
PRODUCER: Well, listen, maybe you can call up something from the Starland Vocal Band, or something out of John Denver’s catalogue…
CAM: Denver didn’t do anything special.
PRODUCER: Okay, but we’ve got some serious dead air here. We’ve gotta get something rolling.
CAM: I don’t know what you want me to say.
PRODUCER: Well, you like music, don’t you?
CAM: [nods, almost imperceptibly]
PRODUCER: So the theme for today’s show is “Songs about Leaving”. Just pick something along those lines and play it.
CAM: Naw, man, I don’t think so. I’m done. [removes headphones and leaves studio]

Welcome to 2016’s first edition of Request Line! Today’s theme, as mentioned, is “Songs about Leaving”. Pick your favorites and post a youtube link (or better yet, embed the video) in the comments. Over the weekend I’ll compile things into a playlist and be back on Monday with DFO Radio. I’ll get you started with a classic by Rush. Have a great weekend everybody!

I’m looking up videos of garbage trucks and car alarms to play loudly in case I need to annoy crazy neighbor later. Though since she’s apparently being trying to complain about the noise in my empty apartment when I’m not home, I can probably just let her auditory hallucinations do the work. I’m assuming it’s auditory hallucinations, she could also just be a huge liar with anger management issues.

I’m a dick, but if she called to complain about noise while you weren’t home, I’d call (non-emergency line for) the cops and tell them your neighbor said there’s noise coming from your place while you’re not home. They go to check it out, no one’s home, you have a record of her making up stuff, and the next time she complains, you can be like “like the time you heard noises and the cops confirmed you’re crazy?”
That’s quite clever. Would be useful if it ever comes up with the condo/apartment management.
Also would work as an alibi.
*it was an accident.
Sooooo….. what if there WAS noise, but it was a commentist “rummaging”?
Can’t believe youtube doesn’t have a clip of this:
Louis: Listen, that reminds me, you shouldn’t leave your TV on so loud when you go out. The creep down the hall phoned the manager.
Dana Barrett: That’s strange, I didn’t realize I’d left it on.
[unlocks her door]
Louis: [droning on] Well yeah, you know what I did? I climbed on the ledge and tried to disconnect the cable, but I couldn’t get in, so you know what I did? I turned my TV up real loud too so everyone would think all our TVs had something wrong with them.
If you had beer in your fridge, it was probably just New School Zero.
“Had” is the keyword here.

They’re amazing live.
There was a show not long ago at the Cat’s Cradle in Chapel Hill of them, Red Elvises and Nashville Pussy which I really wish I could have gone and seen. Stupid work trip.
I may go to the Cradle in April to see Houndmouth. Test of my recluse resolve.
Hopefully you’ll be ready to move!

Okay, so I think I’ve got this figured out, at least in an informational sense. Only folks with Editor status or above can embed videos (via the embed code from youtube). So if it’s not working for you, it’s not cause you screwed up or anything. I’m not sure what needs to be done to open things up, but I’ll look into it. For now, just go ahead and post youtube links – the code I made to aggregate things for DFO Radio posts will work fine with either.
Sorry for the headache, everyone.
I DON NEED NO STINKING IMBEDS!

With all the hoopla over Pimp my Butterfly, I forgot how good this song is.
Damn good choice.
Chris Cornell is my favorite vocalist of all time, but even I’ll admit, his solo albums were awful. I found the lyrics to be especially bland and uninspired, which made me realize that he does need a band around him to help with the song writing process. As such, Audioslave fucking rules.
Testing…

Flogging Molly played a free show in Lou’s Records parking lot back when I was in middle school. My friend and I ditched class that day to get down there to see them, and I’ve been a huge fan since. I had tried to see them 3 times afterwards, and each time something came up: I bought counterfeit tickets to one, had to travel for work for another, and just waited too long before they sold out for the last. When I heard they were playing at the Palladium in LA on St. Patrick’s Day last year, you better believe I got those tickets. That was the best show I’ve ever seen, even if the drive up, wait and opening band were painful.
http://thejerseychaser.com/wp-content/uploads/headset-300×368.jpg
I’ve seen them four times, and each time I walk away saying it was easily one of the top five shows I’ve ever been to (and I’ve spent a lot of time at concerts). Their “Green 17” tours each year are fuckin legendary.
I’ve wanted to see them for awhile but the place they always play down here is standing room. At my age, I no longer have the patience nor the vertebrae cushioning to deal with that.
