Anyone who owns a home has been through this.

The home renovations started on Monday. A week late, we were finally happy that the trusted contractor we arranged was finally able to get his crew in to begin the demolition. The plan is to redo the bathroom, and since there’s already destruction going on rip up the floors & put down new ceramic tiles. My job, since school is out for the summer, is to sit at home & look after the dogs while the work is going on. We’ve moved most of our stuff into a storage bin located on the lawn, and moved what we need into the 400 sq. feet they aren’t working in. For six weeks, we think we can handle it.

I heard the demolition had halted, but figured they were taking a break & wanting to show me their progress so far. They had been here for two hours already, so I was hoping they were halfway finished. Instead, they had masked up and were pointing at the floor.

I’d been through enough school remediations to know what I was looking at.

We called in the site foreman, and he took some samples to send off for testing. They finished pulling up the carpet & wood floors, but couldn’t dispose of anything until the results came back the next morning.

Of course, they were positive.

So, now we wait until the remediation guys can come in. They are scheduled for the 19th, at which point we will be two weeks behind. At least it’s the tiles & not the adhesive, because once the tiles are out then the flooring guy can grind everything down & then skim coat & seal it before the tile can be laid. The job was expected to be done by mid-August, but now we are looking at hopefully by Labour Day. So, goodbye summer.
