Here’s an intake and exhaust valve in a cutaway R-4360 radial engine, the largest piston aircraft engine ever put into production. It had 28 cylinders thus 28 pairs of valves and 56 spark plugs per engine. High octane aviation gasoline of the era was boosted with tetra-ethyl lead, which in addition to causing brain damage would also foul the plugs badly. 4-engine planes would have to replace 224 spark plugs after each flight.
Some more valve lore: In normally aspirated engines (i.e. your car) the exhaust valve shuts completely before the intake valve opens. Supercharged engines like the R-4360 are “cross valved,” where the intake valve begins to open slightly before the exhaust valve shuts. The positive pressure of the supercharger blows a cool air/fuel mix into the cylinder and briefly out the exhaust port. This provides scavenging but also cools the exhaust valves themselves, typically the hottest part of the engine and the most prone to catastrophic failure due to overheating

Got a loaner laptop this morning and after screwing around having fun all morning, I made an attempt to catch up on work this afternoon, just finishing up now. More because I got tired of working than because I caught up, but whatever. Having a gin drink and a couple baozza.
I need to buy a new laptop. Have no idea where to start.

The first step would be to figure out who’s going to pay for it. That will affect your process considerably.
Budget and what you’re gonna use it for
Porn and pizza delivery orders, of course.
Work is paying. I really just use it for work — have to occasionally look at large PDF files but that’s the extent of it. Otherwise it is just MS Office type stuff.
I just want it to be large (including 10 key), operate fast, have ample memory (ram?) to have some files open and move between them without dragging, and be able to sleep wake up without like getting stuck.
I think I’ve just had flat cheap computers in the past and now I’m just gunshy of what I actually need — because it sure wasn’t that Dell.
My youngest doesn’t mind working in the warehouse but he’d really prefer to be a helper on a truck. So I granted his wish-he’ll be on a truck as a helper and there are 98(!) 50lb bags of potatoes on that delivery run. Over the course of the day he’ll have lifted at least a ton of product and that’s just the spuds!
