Alright folks a quick public service announcement regarding YouTube TV and the NFL Sunday Ticket.

I switched to YouTube TV about 3 months ago because fuck DirecTV and their horrible customer service.

Cons: minimal local channels and blackout rules apply to local MLB, NHL and NBA broadcasts.

HBOMAX isn’t the same dashboard but you can find most everything they have with the exception of some of their older series.

Pluses: easily a hundred bucks cheaper per month than DirecTV.

Every goddamn channel you can think of.

You can record EVERYTHING by recording and putting it on your library – there is a “+” sign on the broadcast feed, which allows you to record and fast forward through commercials! Which is an absolute must in my household. Unlimited storage for your library!

I just purchased the Sunday Ticket for 249 cash, lump sum instead of the 399 DirecTV was charging.

No drop off in picture quality.

No drop off in bad weather.

Did I mention the hundred bucks cheaper per month?

And you can share with 4 additional users.

Back in the day, DirecTV had pretty good customer service, like “came out to fix it on the 4th of July” good. But it was insanely expensive. By the time we added our premium packages it was $240 or so a month. We cut the cable three or four years ago, and I don’t regret it.

We had signed up for PSVue when we ditched DirecTV, but it sucked. Poor picture, poor software; the whole experience was bad. We just dropped it. Now we use local TV for the networks, and have a lot of the streaming services (Disney+, HBOMax, Netflix, etc.). That way I can get a pretty close approximation of the whole DirecTV “100 channels and nothing to watch” experience.

NFL Sunday Ticket used to have a student discount of $30/mo, which made the whole season $120 or so. Youtube might not offer it this year, but if they do I might have to pull the trigger.

And it’s crazy that people were thinking that Dominion was some kind of white knight. They’re a corporation, of course they have a price.

I’ve noticed that the ads are different even within the same broadcast. Certain camera angles superimpose digital ads on the boards. Other angles (typically taken with the smaller cameras) show the boards as they are at the stadium.

Looking for another job gives you three things:

2- If it goes well, it gives you options. Options are your friends.
