Sports-wise, don’t you just love this time of year? You said “no!”. Really? Are you on (more) drugs (than usual)? Let’s flash forward to late July-hmm, I could take in a baseball game [flips channel] or another baseball game [flips channel again] or another baseball game. SO MANY CHOICES! As far as college ball is concerned it’s Xmas tourney time and by my figuring approximately 32 of the top 25 teams are playing this evening. In the junior footed ball The Battle of the T’s features Temple/Toledo. In the NBA the only thing worth turning to during the commercial of a game that is actually interesting is Mavs/Raps. Once again the NHL does some heavy lifting-quality games include Mtl/Min, Ott/Fla, StL/Bos and Chi/Dal. The Rangers and Detroit are also skating their hearts out.

I pity you poor fools who have not seen Mothman Prophecies. A skin-crawlingly good film, even if it does star Richard Gere. Only two movies in my life have given me nightmares: Night of the Living Dead (which I saw when I was maybe five or six), and Mothman. It’s… it’s an experience. And if you REALLY want to stay up all night for a week, read the book.
I thought he was good in it, the script fit.

I didn’t like it as much as you did, but consider it an enjoyable movie for sure. One of his better films.

umbrage
“Umbrage” comes from the Old French ombrage (shade, shadow), and it was once used to talk about actual shade from the sun. It took on various figurative meanings having to do with doubt and suspicion or the giving and taking of offense. To give umbrage was to offend someone, to “throw shade.” However, these days when we see the term “umbrage” at all, it is more likely to be because someone is taking, rather than giving it.
All I can think of is this

Nine of out ten can’t tell the difference.
There have actually been several instances in the last few years of schools serving fried chicken for black history presentations and getting raked over the coals for it. It’s kind of a weird gray area because while certain foods have become associated with stereotypes, many of them have an actual cultural history. I think it being offensive or not should be based more on someone’s intent and/or presumptuousness rather than just declaring it across-the-board offensive. I also think I’m spending way too much time thinking about this.

That’s a good point.

I am bored killing time before I am done with work for the Christmas holiday, so apart from being a pedantic asshat, here is the Denver Post’s annual brewery review: http://blogs.denverpost.com/beer/2015/12/22/beer-in-review-2015-avery-brewing-co-is-brewery-of-the-year/16175/
Agree that Call to Arms and Ratio Beerworks are great and worth a visit if you are in Denver. Also, a reminder that there is a Denver Post reporter whose twitter handle is @HughJohnsonDP.
On a side note, I was a little sad to read that Breckenridge Brewery sold out to AB InBev, but their quality has slipped a bit in the last few years anyway, so no big whoop. Happy Holidays!
