I sat on a jury years ago, 2nd degree attempted murder case. One day the defendant wore sneakers with his suit to court. It was that day I knew he was guilty.

Holy shit. Talib admitted he committed the facemask on purpose to stop the TD. That should be worth a fine.
And that’s the exact situation where the refs have the discretion to award a TD. Obviously, not at this point–though that would be cool.
I don’t know who the Panthers player was who was crying while the confetti cannons were going off, but it was so cringeworthy how the camera stayed on him, and then they kept cutting back to the shot between adoring homages to Manning.
I get the human element in seeing someone’s dreams crushed live on TV, but you know what? Let it be a celebration when one team wins. You don’t need to show the losers feeling crushed. Even if they’re assholes. Let the winners soak up their victory and express their joy, and let the losers grieve in peace. I think it’s silly to make the losing team in the championship game do post-game interviews.
It was Josh Norman. After seeing kids cry in The NCAA tourney for years I’m always amazed how shots of athletes crying get me. This is their dream and they reached for it and lost. It’s not like The Oscars, Emmy’s or Grammy’s where you can’t control if you win. You had a chance to shape your destiny and failed. That is why the crying and emotion is so impactful.
It’s honest, yes. But it’s exploitative for the TV camera to milk it.
Or in this case, fine, you want to show the heartbreak on his face, fine. But goddamn they cut away from it to Pey-Pey with the crowd of cameras around him, then cut back to the guy breaking down.
You (the TV network) want to show a guy feeling heartbreak, fine. You get to do that. But don’t exploit it by returning to it. We don’t need to be bludgeoned with “the thrill of victory; the agony of defeat.”
I’m okay with interviewing the coach of the losing team, and I think Ron Rivera actually gave a fantastic post-game interview. Otherwise, I 100% agree. I know there’s a flip side to the joy of winning, I don’t need it shoved in my face. I have this thing I do sometimes called “empathy” and I don’t get good feelies out of watching other people feel bad. I hate being around people when things are shitty for me, and hate seeing other people forced to parade their misery for the delight of some bitter, soulless, killjoy assholes.
Rivera is a man and I respect that guy for (as far as I can tell) always standing behind his decisions and being honest about things, good or bad. It’s a damn shame the NFL and its partners will always see him as “Active Hispanic Coach”.
Not all the Patriots, just the horrible ones who have already gotten their share of success, and that maybe not entirely honestly. It’s like kicking a puppy vs. kicking pre-Christmas Carol Scrooge.
Yes! He’s like a St. Bernard that was never neutered! Can’t you just see him bounding up a mountain, with a barrel of schnapps around his neck, on his way to “rescue” an attractive female skiier?
Nahh, if Gront was a St. Bernard, he’d get distracted halfway up the mountain and start humping a frozen deer carcass buried in the snow.

For all the people giving Cam shit I will remember this next time Nick Saban acts like an asshole or a rude man at the Enterprise Rent-a-Car counter and Kirk Herbstreit & Paul Finebaum jerk off like teenagers gazing at Porn Hub. For all those moralizing over Cam’s demeanor I will remember this next time Bill Belichick acts like a bitter old man at a Ted Cruz rally at his weekly pressers or when he sends a fifth string DB out to do an interview with CBS after another playoff loss. As for Bob Costas, FUCK YOU. Shut up you worthless, soulless midget. You have spent your entire career defending a sport with some of the lowest creatures to ever grace the planet earth, your beloved baseball, which means you are in no position to trash any human being. Especially Bob since your hero Mickey Mantle was a drunk, womanizing, disrespectful bum. As for any Broncos fan shit talking Cam, I give you The Super Bowl MVP Von Miller who’s as big a preening douchebag that has ever played on the defensive side of the ball. Oh Aqib Talib fuck you too.
Also, to most of your examples these guys aren’t seeking out the attention that Cam Newton seeks out. They’re not gloating. But Belichick does get a bunch of shit for his demeanor. Since I was a kid, I always found it easy to root against the sore sport. I don’t see how it’s a problem here.
I mean whatever. None of the shit is undue. I remember when Tom Brady did this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhw_YLGmvKw and he got tons of crap for it. It bit him in the ass. But he did stand up at the podium after the Giants beat him and take it like a man. Different people different situations. When TO did this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwEihRd7fKA it slayed! We still play clips of Mora being a petulant baby at the podium. It happens!
It feels like there are a lot of excuses being made and a lot of scapegoats thrown out there, but Cam loves to dance on your grave and talk a bunch of smack, so it’s fun to see him fail. And he couldn’t hack it after the game! He actually acted like a little kid. That was hilarious. It’s always funny when it’s not your team. Which is why I don’t get all the defenders coming out of the woodwork as if he’s unassailable because some people are racist or because he’s a different race than the normal QB?? whatever that means. He’s just a loudmouth football player who blew it and I loved it. And I know a lot of you guys usually would love it too, but today it’s about something else for you. So I’m sorry if you can’t enjoy it for what it is.
I guess I just take more issue with the way the press covered it than I do with fucking up a dumb press conference. They aren’t showing the footage of him congratulating Peyton, or anything else from after the game where he DID act like a professional. He’s actually behaved better than a lot of losing QBs do towards his team and the other team, but he gets reamed because he didn’t bother to keep his shit together for the press.
I think my takeaway from all of this is that the media, especially the sports media, are a bunch of disgusting parasites.
Is this real? The thing I hate about this lady is she’s pulling the rug out from under my totally enjoyable schadenfraude. Come on lady, keep it in your pants and let me soak up the sadness!

yeah, he was kind of a dickhole yesterday
Could have starred for the Panthers with that kind of behavior, amiright?! #broncoscountry
The “poor reflection on your kind” with a later follow-up “I hadn’t noticed, I don’t see color” was just perfect. Well done, sir. Well done.
If “losing” had been spelled “loosing”, this would have been perfect.
But you get an A+ from Sister Mary Elephant and a glow in the dark rosary.
As usual, Bill Barnwell gets it exactly right:

Dig Newtons
Dammit.
It begins: Bill Romanowski is getting torched for calling Cam “Boy”
That was probably the most succinct, honest, and revealing comment from all the people hoping for Cam’s failure.
Bill Romanowski is a terrifying human being. In many, many ways.
You spelled “piece of shit” incorrectly.
I don’t know who the Panthers player was who was crying while the confetti cannons were going off, but it was so cringeworthy how the camera stayed on him, and then they kept cutting back to the shot between adoring homages to Manning.

I would have loved for Cam to give a “I’m just here so I don’t get fined.”
The crying is not comfortable to watch for sure, but I’ve always respected the honesty of it.
It’s honest, yes. But it’s exploitative for the TV camera to milk it.

It’s CBS. They don’t do nuance.
“Josh Norman did not cry after that game.”

Unless it’s the Patriots.
Not all the Patriots, just the horrible ones who have already gotten their share of success, and that maybe not entirely honestly. It’s like kicking a puppy vs. kicking pre-Christmas Carol Scrooge.
“Not all the Patriots”
WRONG!
I will admit I like Gronk. How can you NOT like the big galoof?!?
Yes! He’s like a St. Bernard that was never neutered! Can’t you just see him bounding up a mountain, with a barrel of schnapps around his neck, on his way to “rescue” an attractive female skiier?

I LEARNED IT FROM WATCHING YOU, OKAY?

Can’t we hate all those guys?

The other difference is that Cam is a QB and they are disproportionately scrutinized.
I mean whatever. None of the shit is undue. I remember when Tom Brady did this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhw_YLGmvKw and he got tons of crap for it. It bit him in the ass. I do see your point.
It’s a shame there are so many people who despise Cam for the wrong reasons that it becomes difficult to bask in schadenfreude for the right ones.

I can get on board with that.
Bob Costas on Cam’s presser: “It’s not the worst thing…but it’s a misdemeanor.”
“…and considering Cam’s got priors, I think it’s safe to say that Roger Goodell needs to move on a three-strikes-and-you’re-out rule.”
I’m surprised her name was not Penelope.
Is this real? The thing I hate about this lady is she’s pulling the rug out from under my totally enjoyable schadenfraude. Come on lady, keep it in your pants and let me soak up the sadness!

Sad Cam is sad.
