Well, since you asked, I’m alive, very much pissed off at fate or God or whatever, and I have to balance this with two babies that literally are the cure for what ails.

If it were just me, this would be a whole different ballgame. These kids are awesome though, the little girl started walking for real a few days ago which caused almost as many tears as Mommy’s funeral.

Which was weird, by the way. The in-laws found a Very Insistent Pastor. He spoke passionately about resurrection and God’s love and how my wife would return from the dead with Jesus or something and I’m just like thanks, but take it outside, God Boy. He hugged me and said “I love you” and either he really meant it or he was a really good actor, either way we’d never met.

My friend from California came out and kept trying to talk me into going out to karaoke, which seems like an odd thing to invite a widower to do on the day of his wife’s funeral, but he meant well, backed down, and even offered me a few months of maid service. My best friend, also from CA, came out with his wife, kid, and mom, and all he wanted to do was drink. We took the kids to Chuck E Cheese on a Monday, 1130 am, and he walks up holding a Shock Top, bless his heart.

The weirdest thing is my brother came out and I probably talked to him more this past week than we did the first 30 years of our lives combined. If nothing else, that bond is stronger.

The kids are going to be staying with grandma when I’m working, a double-edged sword because while she loves them, she is also a pushover who will stuff them with sugar if allowed to do so. But she means well, and my sister in law has been a big help too. She didn’t even make any jokes when they cleaned my closet and found the .38 and the sex toys.

Anyway, I still feel like life is kicking me in the balls with a steel toed boot, but things could be worse I guess.

I mean, not MUCH worse…
