Above is Ramiro Funes Mori, grabbing the badge. That’s all well and good…except it’s in the midst of a 4-nil loss to the Redshite, after getting a red card that will keep him out of the “Hail Mary” chance to save the lost season at Wembley Stadium today.
Fuck. Everything.
Almost certain to be fired manager Roberto Martinez had a free pass to play a team full of reserves and kids at Anfield midweek. Everton can’t be relegated, nor can it realistically salvage a respectable position in the table. Plenty of players are banged up, or tired. Made all the sense in the world to rest EVERYONE for Manure in three days.
But of course…he didn’t. And FuMo got sent off, and 2 other players picked up knocks and are questionable at best. Fucking dumbass.
Winner (12:00, FS2) meets the Palace/Watford winner (Sunday, 10:50, FS2) in May for all the marbles, again at Wembley. Uh…bet on Manure, even with the Louis van Gaal factor in play.
There is also a limited League slate. The only real match of consequence Saturday is Stoke/City (NBCSN, 7:45). I suppose there is some interest in the Barcodes, now that they are legitimately alive again in the race for 17th (against the aforemetioned Redshite, NBCSN, 10:00).
Sunday is much more meaningful, with Sunderland (also in the 3-way battle for saefty) taking on Arsenal in the opener (9:05, NBCSN). Leicester, having blown (with quite a bit of help by some dodgy officiating) 2 of their 7 point lead last weekend, take on mediocre Swansea next (11:15, NBCSN). This SHOULD be a relatively smooth home fixture…but back to that officiating. Jamie Vardy was sent off for a VERY weak diving call last week, and he must miss this match as a result. Foxy Footy is many things, but deep up front is not one of them.
Spurs showed last week that they are pretty locked in, and will make the Foxes work for it. I would be very, very surprised if West Brom can get a result at White Hart Lane on Monday Night Footy (3:00, MSNBC).
Pucker up, buttercup.
