Hey everyone, it’s a 38 calibre Saturday night.

I went & saw “Logan” on Friday. It is every bit as good as you have heard.The reviews are fairly accurate about what to expect: action, calm, action, calm…

It was less gory than most “Friday the 13th” movies, and in terms of violence was way below something like the first 20 minutes of “Saving Private Ryan”.

It’s also true that the quiet moments are where the movie shines brightest.

It seemed like using the “R” to differentiate this film from all the X-men movies also gave them the freedom to develop the story, as opposed to letting the set pieces drive the direction.

You’ll hear some reviews talk about how this movie might be one of the last, great Westerns. I’d agree with that; the directness of the references in the movie might be the only real off-putting aspect for some people.

But, fuck that – it’s totally worth your money.

Note: there is a “pre-credits scene”, which is shown before the movie begins, not the usual mid- or post-credits teaser after the main event. They were smart & let the movie stand on its own.

Hey – Ryan Reynolds released a version on his Twitter page. It’s not exactly the same – no Stan Lee cameo in mine – but everything else is the same. Enjoy.

We are having company over for dinner tonight. Some long-time friends and three of their kids. (I guess the 8 year-old is too good for us or something.) Thanks to “sensitivities”, we are having lasagna with gluten-free noodles. I drew the line at vegetarian and soy cheese; lasagna has meat & mozza dammit! Little fuckers can have all the salad they want if they don’t like it. Fortunately, the husband is a beer & scotch man, so we’ll adjourn to the den if we have to.

So there’s my evening. I hope yours is a little more enjoyable.
