Back on January 3rd, in the Open Thread, we discussed the 15 Hall of Fame finalists:
- Tony Boselli,
- Isaac Bruce,
- Brian Dawkins,
- Alan Faneca,
- Steve Hutchinson,
- Joe Jacoby,
- Edgerrin James,
- Ty Law,
- Ray Lewis,
- John Lynch,
- Kevin Mawae,
- Randy Moss,
- Terrell Owens,
- Brian Urlacher,
- Everson Walls.
and made our picks as to whom should get in. To recap those who ‘volunteered’:
Beerguyrob | Lewis | Dawkins | Faneca | Moss | Law |
Moose | Boselli | Bruce | Jacoby | Moss | Walls |
Spanky | Boselli | Dawkins | Faneca | Jacoby | Walls |
tWBS | Bruce | James | Owens | Moss | Walls |
litre_cola | Lewis | Dawkins | Hutchinson | Moss | Law |
don_t | Owens | Dawkins | Hutchinson | Moss | Law |
Mr. Ayo | Owens | Faneca | Hutchinson | Moss | Urlacher |
King Hippo | Boselli | Dawkins | Owens | Moss | Walls |
Of the eight groupings, there are some fairly consistent choices.
- Randy Moss picked up 7 DFO votes.
- Brian Dawkins was second with 5 votes.
- In a surprise, Terrell Owens & Everson Walls got three votes each.
- Not a surprise, Steve Hutchinson also got three votes.
- Stabby McObstruction only carried two of eight ballots.
It looks like Peter King will have his work cut out for him trying to gerrymander the right nominees into the Hall.
The two “senior finalists” are Robert Brazile & Jerry Kramer. Perhaps you’ve heard Kramer’s been slighted before?
Bobby Beathard is the Contributor nominee.
The winners will be chosen next Saturday afternoon. They need 80% approval from the 48-person Selection Committee. The list of eligible voters is here. If you don’t want to look but want to be angry anyway, certain “at-large” voters include Wichita Pete, Dan Fouts, John Clayton, and something named Clark Judge from Talk of Fame Network and Yahoo Sports Radio.
YOUR TASK TONIGHT is to out-Peter Peter King and make the cromulent case for the five you want to see get in.
The commentist who gets closest to the actual selections wins a reservation in the Acela Quiet Car.

(you can see my building in this btw)

So best picture nominees 4 and 5 were Get Out and The Post. Both decent films. Neither one is going to win so it’s like the wild card playoffs.
The Post had solid technical elements and I love the big sweeping camera and the tracking shots and it was a good story.
Get Out was fun but I’m not seeing best picture. Kind of feels like remnants of the Oscars so white movement.
So far it’s a track meet between Shape of Water and 3 Billboards.
I’m going shape of Water at this juncture based on the Octavia Spencer element.
I love this time of year.
I have no desire to see Shape of Water. Is it so amazing I need to reconsider?
Yes.
It’s an incredible film. I went into it knowing nothing about it other than the g/f wanted to see it. Go see it with your girl/wife/husband/whatever.
No bass discussion would be complete without him.
I only just now realized those were separate thoughts.
/sees you’re talking about bassists
//Ctrl + f “entwhistle”
//shakes head disapprovingly

I WAS GETTING TO HIM!!!!
He’s WCS’ favorite I think. I was keeping him in reserve. Jeebus.
A likely story
Sorry to snake him from you. I believe the amount of people you know who own one of these is a fairly solid indicator of your socio-economic background. I knew a lot of people who had one.
LOL. Me too.
Another underrated bassist. Mike Dirnt, evahbody!!!!
(shut up Ayo)
😛

I kinda figured WCS would chime in here, being the big bass guy he is.
Li’l WCS and Li’ller WCS must be having “a night”
But he’d never forgive me if I left Geddy Lee out of the party.
(great drums here too so yay)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdpMpfp-J_I
Oh we talkin bass now
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-kA3UtBj4M
Nice.
OK, screw credit scores….. back to the bass.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3wKzyIN1yk
Credit reporting agencies are apparently retarded.
A coupla months ago I paid off my mom’s house because she was paying way too high interest. That was my deceased father’s fault, but he was who he was.
But since then…
My score with Transunion went up 33 points.
My score with Equifax went down….33 points.
They literally just swapped scores. Literally. There’s no logic here.
Which one should I yell at first?
It’s almost like the whole thing is a scam designed to incentivize people to take out more loans to improve their chances of taking out more loans in the future.

Underrated bassist, Tony Kanal.
Plus he banged Gwen for a while. Bonus.
(yes I know this is a cover from Talk Talk, but his bass line is why this version is better than the original)

Unless I’m drunk at kickoff, I’m not watching the Super Bowl.
So see you all next Sunday
Drinking a barrel-aged negroni because why not?
Pretty sure you’re supposed to call it a “barrel-aged American-Ale”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FLrperjKU4
I’m usually a drums guy. But if you don’t appreciate the bass line in this one, I don’t know what to tell you.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHG5P9xFyhI
Typo corrected.
I wasn’t referring to baseball.
Watching the half-hour Super Bowl recaps on NFLN. Fairly sure the name isn’t “Fran Tarkington”.
Frank Tarkenstein?
TV’s Frank looks kinda like William IV:
Elvis J. Weinstein sends his regards.

I know it’s not football related, but I strongly feel that carnitas should go in the HOF. Also, everyone should go visit Mexico City before the cheeto closes the borders.
Yeah but, what if I don’t want to be kidnapped?
We have more pollution than LA and less oxygen because…elevation.
You don’t have to worry. You’re not rich enough.
I’ve never been there, but a friend of mine lived in Mexico City until recently (she was in school there) and couldn’t wait to get out.
Then again, she’s a little on the insane side so, who knows?
Living somewhere and visiting somewhere are very different. I’m enjoying Mexico City very much from a tourist POV.
Very true, indeed.

Has MTV Unplugged been identified as a serial killer yet? First Cobain, then Staley.

Scott Weiland
It’s very sobering to look back at all these folks who, at the time, seemed so immortal.
Like Keith Richards; in hindsight it’s obvious he died so youn—oh wayt.
Zombie Keith I think.
I would be first to finish in her skillz competition if you know what I mean
I missed that open thread, so here are my picks for the HoF.
Tony Boselli, because he was a Top 5 lineman during his career, and one time he held the door open for me while I was trying to waddle out of a Starbucks with three triple caramel maciatto.
Alan Faneca, also a Top 5 lineman during his career and nearly almost always at least once returned a call of mine within 5 minutes.
Randy Moss. Probably the best WR in the business and now he’s in the media and I need the access.
Ray Lewis. Great LB, and I am terrified of what he will do if he finds out I didn’t vote for him.
John Lynch. Pretty good player but more importantly he’s a GM and I can leverage my vote for access.
That’s right fuckers; this whole time I’ve been Peter King, and none of you figured it out! BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH(chokes on Kit Kat, dies)
Name 5 commenters more likely to be PK; you cant.
I actually wouldn’t vote for Lewis, (killed and/or covered up a guy getting killed), or Lynch, (good, not HoF good). I’d probably sub in Dawkins and Owens, although good Christ would I hold my nose on Owens. He was great but Jesus do I hate him.
That’s three blown second-half leads of double digits in the last five games.
The UCONN men would love to have that problem.
Patrick Kane is just saving his breath for the “Pay your Cabbie” competition.
The controversial new “Punch A Cabbie While Your Brother Hold Him” category.
%$%$*)&*%^%$^%&^%&$^&^%$@@#$%^&^%$%^&^%$#$%^&*&^%$#@#$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I said similar stuff just now myself. Sorry man.
Gotta get pts here quickly or this one is over.
I kinda want to see Konate start beating some ass.
Who knew Audry Tautoo was popular enough to have one of her movies sponsor an NHL arena?
Dayum WVU!! I only looked away for a few minutes and you imploded.
What are you? NC State?
It’s how we roll, baby. Every time.
More or less, anything Adult Swimmy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhjsafZcrXA
I rewatched Dragon Ball Z a few months ago. I am 34 years old.
Oh, Also, wrestling I guess, but I don’t see what’s so weird about that.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZA9KOcOO9s
The “maple-syrup-farm-as-a-drug-front” angle was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.
I am 41 and I too watch Riverdale although it is because my wife started watching it, but I do not object. We also watch Maury as we think it truly is hilarious. A moment of levity in our days.
Pretty sure Rickard Rakell got killed sometime in season 2 of Game of Thrones, how is he at the Skillz?
Those enchiladas I had for dinner are not agreeing with mah belly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX18yNwqnMg
Ooh Rugby qualifying. That is better than the skillz comp.
B-b-b-but, mini-goals!
And softball questions about skating drills!
Just post the url. it (usually) needs to be an https site and end with a lowercase file extension. And imgur urls are a crapshoot either way.
Not sure that’s possible, youd have to upload them to some image sharing site first then just post that url. postimage is a popular one. Or Donny’s DIscount Image Hosting.
Skilllz competition is apparently so boring they are interviewing players about their sick children to jazz it up
I put my tip in.
Shit! Thanks for the ‘member berries.
/makes Bourble picks
I’ll play. This is in addition to Jerry Kramer:
Tony Boselli–Solid but no
Isaac Bruce–Fuck that guy
Brian Dawkins–Legitimately intimidating player. 9 Pro Bowls. Awesome in coverage as well as run stuffing. Undisputed leader. Badass. Has the intangibles PK would reserve for a white dude.
Alan Faneca–Absolutely deserves to get in. Question of when not if.
Steve Hutchinson–Not yet.
Joe Jacoby–[REDACTED]
Edgerrin James–His prime was amazing. And didn’t last as long as it should have.
Ty Law–Good but not yet
Ray Lewis–I didn’t see nothing
John Lynch–Ugh probably going to get it but he’s a poor man’s Steve Atwater.
Kevin Mawae-Credible case as dominant signal caller upfront in an era when defenses got smarter and centers had more pressure on them. Probably won’t get in.
Randy Moss–Yuuuuup. Arguably most intimidating WR in NFL history. Changed the defense just by stepping onto the field.
Terrell Owens–I hate the fucking guy but he is definitely a Hall of Fame receiver. That game against the Bears where he broke the single season catch record was Beastly, and he did it in Philly and Dallas too, battling through injury to make Jeff Garcia a winner
Brian Urlacher–Even if I wasn’t a homer, he’s in and deserves it. Anchored a legendary defense that carried Sexy Rexy all the way to the super bowl and admirably filled the MLB shoes left for him.
Everson Walls–Who?
Fuck Tom Brady chant at the NXT show right now.
Why is a defenceman participating in the fastest skater Skillz? Is this whole thing a joke to you, NHL?
Has a career ending decapitation ever happened at a Skillz competition? Not sure why that thought came to my head when Marchand showed on the screen…
“Ow my knee!”
-Robert Edwards
What the hell happened to Brian Boyle’s mustache?
The Sharks contingent looks like a bear Pride skating team.
This made me giggle.
Fun* Fact**: Edmonton has traded away more No. 1 Overall picks in the last 3 years than 99% of franchises have had in the last 10.
*: VERY fun.
**: Close enough.
The cost of that 80’s dynasty has been brutal and fair. The traditional Chris Pronger Drags Your Team To A Cup Finals year only served to remind them of how much all the other years suck. I can’t wait to see how the Patriots fare when it all falls apart.
I think I had a wet dream recently about Edmonton trading McDavid, watching him become the generational superstar he is, and Edmonton screws up 10 more lottery picks
The NHL Skillzzz competition is the perfect opportunity to remember that Edmonton STILL stinks, and so does Montreal ( the team too).
Boots on the ground from the Rolex. All-nighter baby.
SWEET!
That’s badass! Just wish Alonso had a better car. But I’ve been saying that for five years now.
NXT Takeover tonight, and the Royal Rumble tomorrow, both from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Expect the crowd to be fucking insane and even booier than usual if things go to shit. It is the place that triggered the crowd mic muting frenzy of the Roman Reigns era after the last Royal Rumble there.

If Cena trots to the ring in a Pats jersey I’d actually respect him. Heel move while staying face.
Just remembered the One Night Stand shows weren’t at the ECW Arena. That was New York.
