Welcome back drinkers. This week we’re deviating from the cocktail books I’ve been looking at for inspiration. That’s because we’ve got our first user submission to the Cocktail of the Week. Rikki Tikki Deadly, the master of the request line himself, sent me this recipe of a cocktail that he came up with. He calls it the Dachshund, because it’s a souped up version of a Greyhound:
2 parts Gin (I used Bombay Sapphire)
1/2 part St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
1 part (maybe)* Grapefruit juice
Sprig of rosemary.
Mix up good in shaker, then shake with ice, then pour into tumbler with large ice cube. Top off with tonic
*Actual measurement may vary
I mixed this with 2 oz of gin, 1 oz St. Germain, and 1 oz. of (truth be told) orange grapefruit juice. Despite not using the exact ingredients and glassware, this is still very refreshing and, as Rikki put it,”This cocktail is the reason why my head hurts so much this morning and also we’re out of gin.”
I can see where this would definitely be the cause of more than a few morning after headaches. This might be the smoothest drink I’ve made in a while, and goes down way too easy.
The tonic and elderflower play very well with the gin and grapefruit. The tonic especially livens up the drink. The beauty of this drink is it’s simplicity. It’s easy to mix, and can be scaled up as well. Once it finally starts getting warmer up here this is definitely going to be made en masse for trips to the beach.
I’m very much open to more suggestions for drinks or ingredients I should feature. Let me know what you want and I’ll mix it up.

This sounds delicious. More gin.
I bought that book you referenced last week! Good shit!
Nice! It’s a great book. I’ll be going back to him a lot over the course of this series.
Gin? That makes you black out.

Elderflower? What is this Harry Potter mixology nonsense?
I think it has something to do with this:
