CFL News:
- In a move that hopefully doesn’t have to force Maestro to Ctrl+F all his CFL posts, the Edmonton Eskimos announced this afternoon they will be changing their team name.
- Much like in Washington, it comes after sponsor pressure.
- To quote TSN, the current incarnation of the franchise has held the nickname since its inception in 1949.
NFL News:
- Fallout from the franchise tags applied yesterday:
- Dak Prescott says he “couldn’t be happier” to play on the tag with the Cowboys.
- Probably because he controls the bargaining position, barring injury:
- His Franchise Tag in 2021 would be $37.7 million.
- A successful year would increase his net payout from whatever deal he signs.
- They may not have had the right amount available anyway.
- In the past 16 months, the Cowboys have signed DeMarcus Lawrence ($105 million), Amari Cooper ($100 million), Ezekiel Elliott ($90 million), Jaylon Smith ($64 million) and La’el Collins ($50 million) to very expensive extensions.
- Probably because he controls the bargaining position, barring injury:
- The Jags wanted more for Yannick Ngakoue than anyone was willing to offer.
- This is based on what Houston got for Jadaveon Clowney last year when they sent him to Seattle.
- They got a third-round pick, linebacker Jacob Martin and pass rusher Barkevious Mingo.

- Twelve players in total will play under the Tag in 2020.
- That’s the most since the Tag was created in 1993.
- The previous high was nine players, in 2009 & 2012.

- Up to July 10th, 72 players have tested positive for COVID-19.
- This represents 2.5% of the rostered players, with no data available on the number of players tested as a whole.
- Players who test positive will be placed on IR for three weeks, based on an agreement with the union.
- They will then either return to practice, or go on the IR list for a longer, yet-to-be-defined period.

In the interest of having everyone on the same page in terms of what we know and don’t know at this time, here are a few things I’ve learned being on four NFLPA calls in the last two weeks with hundreds of other players.

- Fans are officially barred from all NFL training camps.
- This came down in a league memo, which also said two in-stadium events could occur, provided they met with league & state guidelines for public gatherings.
- If you follow NFL gossip, there’s apparently some big story about the [Redacteds] that’s going to drop tomorrow.
- It’s coming from the Washington Post, whose owner – Jeff Bezos – is also an interested possible minority partner for the team.
- Part of it has dropped early, and it sounds worse than the time they pimped out their cheerleaders.
- The allegations have already led to three team employees accused of improper behavior abruptly departing, including Larry Michael, the club’s longtime radio voice, and Alex Santos, the team’s director of pro personnel.
- They announced they’ve hired a lawyer to “review team culture”, in what is seen as a pre-emptive move to limit liability.
- It is D.C. attorney Beth Wilkinson of Wilkinson Walsh LLP, who has experience defending high-profile class-action lawsuits, including for the NFL against a class-action lawsuit regarding its Sunday Ticket packages.

- It’s behind a paywall, so we will have to wait for someplace like Vichy Deadspin (not my term) & one of their Quislings (my term) to pay the money & break it down.

That concludes my weekday broadcasts. I’ll be back with something pre-taped for the weekend. In the meantime, and in between time, that’s it – another Open Thread from Beerguyrob.
Bye-bye now.
Jeebus do Hammers need a win v Moose Bees today. Not much faith in it happening though. I just keep remembering Watford fucking DISMANTLING Liverpool before the Covid-19 shutdown. Sarr was the stud that day. Not sure we have anyone to contain him. This is killing me.
Wait, waaat?
You know what will pair with this next hour of work? Stone IPA
Fuck am I tired
An observation as noticed from my brothers: while being on unemployment is not a financial hardship right now what it does do is foster a distinct lack of viability and worth.
You can stay at home and be solvent but there is a strong lack of reason for being.
Both the bros are financially stable but hoo boy they are both going through an existential crises as far as their reason for being.
Then again it’s scary as shit going to work in a pandemic as I can personally attest.
There are going to be both major psychological case studies as well as some amazing novels when this shit is over.
Thank whatever deity you believe in that I get to go to work every day.
Be safe people.
You just described my life for two decades, from 2000 until December.
Yep, even though my paychecks keep coming in, I feel a distinct hopelessness and lack of purpose for my shirt existence. I also feel extremely burned out when I do have work on my plate.
The nation’s collective mental health has to be horrendous.

And they still had the one below the nose dipshit.
She looks old enough that putting a tissue in front of her entire face would suffocate her.
Yes, the name of the movie IS Double Impact….. why do you ask?
I don’t remember him getting nailed in the balls in that movie, but it makes the movie so much better now.
Some scary shit going down in Portland vis-a-vis paramilitary shoving protesters into vans and not a whole lot of attention getting paid to it by news outlets. People might wake up in November surprised by how real shit got.
I’ve seen a bit of that, but I haven’t seen it reported on much. It’s freaky.
Yep, no insignia “law” enforcement in several places.
I find this all very disturbing. I’m not resting assured of his leaving the WH in January should he lose in November. Civil war may ensue. Sure hope not.
Very disturbing.
That’s silly. Everything is fine here in Port Land. The glorious forces of Secretary Wolf are crushing the impudent antifa scum. #MAGA
Sincerely,
Little Girl.
I’m about 99% sure some of our PPP money is funding this tripe.

Jesus Christ that cast list…they should call it “Wingnut Welfare: The Movie”.
“Killing the Libtards”?
Who wants to watch washed up D-grade actors humiliate themselves in mindless drek meant to appeal to the lowest common IQ rating in the room?
Oh, right. We live in Trump’s America. Damn thing will probably make millions.
I can not imagine even the most brain-wormed chud being excited to see 2020 Kevin Sorbo
I can.
No, it won’t*. I have to admit, though, I’m shocked that Kirk Cameron isn’t involved.
*despite their many faults, those sleazy Hollywood producers DTZM and RTD aren’t all bad.
Credit order argument.
Where are Jon Voight and Robert Davy and Frank Stallone and Kelsey Grammer?

Hey, remember when the Superman writers stumbled across the secret stash in the National Periodicals offices?
The internal monologue in Warrior Nun is really obnoxious.
Going to hit the high 90s here this weekend, and 104 by Tuesday.
That should keep everyone socially distancing rather than rushing down to the river in droves where they can continue spreading the virus!
I’m looking at the cast of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and pretty much every Millennial actor ever is in that movie.
But they still never had Michael Cera as Shaft.
/sees Henry Cavill shirtless in Superman
Well, at least I can sort of navigate my way around computers.
/sees Cavill building a computer
Well, fuck.
/cries into a bag of extra buttery popcorn that has Junior caramels in them
Didn’t see the big deal. Looked exactly like I do when I put them together as long as you don’t show anything but my hands.
I too can navigate my way around…
[trips over computer]
DAMNIT!
