NFL Nuggets:
- Following the principle that having no options is better than having some bad ones, the former [Redacteds] are releasing Alex Smith.
- A 5-1 record as the starter wasn’t enough to keep him around, as Ron Rivera looks to rebuild further from the mess he inherited.
- An early favourite as a landing spot would be as a backup in Chicago, as he used to play for Matt Nagy.
- The Seahawks have brought back former QB coach Carl Smith to bolster Pete Carroll’s staff.
- Smith was the QB coach from 2012-17, and will likely play a role in mollifying Russell Wilson in hopes he doesn’t want to leave sooner than later.
- Smith spent the last three years with Houston, but with Deshaun on his way out it makes sense to switch franchises.
- Smith was the QB coach from 2012-17, and will likely play a role in mollifying Russell Wilson in hopes he doesn’t want to leave sooner than later.
- I don’t think it will help save him, because JJ Watt is going to the desert.
- He’s signing a two-year deal with the Cardinals worth $31 million, with $23 million guaranteed.

For Commentists of a certain age, all you need to know about Irv Cross was this sound:
Irv Cross died on the weekend, aged 81. He worked at CBS Sports from 1971-94, and on “The NFL Today” from its start in 1975 through 1989. Prior to his broadcasting career, he played Cornerback for the Eagles from 1961 through 1965, making Pro Bowls in 1964 & ’65, and again in 1969 as a player/coach. He spent 1966 through 1968 with the Rams.
During his playing career, Cross had 22 interceptions, 14 fumble recoveries, eight forced fumbles and a pair of defensive touchdowns for his career. He also averaged 27.9 yards on kickoff returns and returned punts. As a broadcaster, Cross won the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award in 2009. He was the first Black recipient of the annual award, which seeks to recognize “longtime exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football.”
That just leaves Brent Musburger as the last remaining member of what was considered the NFL’s first pre-game show.

A fairly light docket for the evening. Maybe go check out the latest [DFO] Mock Draft & make some late selections. There’s always time for fantasy booking!
It’s funny to me that Barcelona hired a firm to trash its players online & the executives got arrested, and the Texans put a preacher in charge of their players & most of the team is trying to flee as fast as they can.
If you like WWE, watch the end of Raw tonight. It’s peak Vince McMahon for Bobby Lashley to win the title the day after Black History Month ends.
Now that JJWatt signed with a second team, his next career move should be go to outer space one way. Being reasonable, I’d settle for Watt to never use words in public.
I am already looking at weather reports to decide if I can start the sous vide on Friday in order to barbecue the brisket on Sunday.
Had a culinary partial failure tonight. There’s a recipe from a Rick Moonen cookbook I really like, for oil-poached halibut with a poached egg and a sauce gribiche (basically, a pickle-tomato-caper-salsa). I haven’t made it in years, probably because it’s a little fiddly with maintaining the right temperature for the poaching oil. So I figured this might be a good job for the old sous vide tool.
In one sense it is — the halibut cooked to a perfect temperature — but either the agitation of the water, or the jostling from putting it into and out of the bag, caused it to kind of fall apart. So presentation-wise it’s a bit of a mess. Which is not the first time I’ve had this problem with fish; I am apparently a bit of a slow learner.
But hey, it tastes good, and there’s wine.
It is very difficult to maintain your “no alcohol except Fri-Sun” fitness position when you have a 6-pack of these in your fridge.
So I’m not maintaining it.
Sacrifices must be made
I have not had a Lagunita’s in some time, but I remember loving that beer. I hope it’s still as good now that Heineken is running the ship.
Fun fact: That beer was a mistake that they bottled anyway and insulted it incase the reception was negative.
I did not realize that Heineken had bought them. I don’t like that, but good for them for getting paid. I hope it works out better for them than it did for Ballast Point.
Regardless, I have Sucks and Hop Stoopid in the fridge right now, and they’re both delicious.
Lowest Commander just told me that I “look like a coloring book.”
This isn’t your average everyday whiteness. This is…
…advanced whiteness.
Brent gave himself 4-1 odds that he would be the last one alive 45 years ago.
I’d save he’s not only outlived his cast mates, but also his career by a good 10-12 years.
Yup, he’s the Raiders radio play by play guy and had his own action figure!
THESE ORGEON DUCKS I CALL THEM ASHLI BABBITT BECAUSE THEY’RE GETTING KILLED BY SHOTS BEING TAKEN WHEN THEY LEAVE THEIR FEET!
UNLIKE BABBITT, HOWEVER, THESE DUCKS HAVE A FUTURE. AND A PRESENT, ACTUALLY.
Cant abide this sites inadequacies any longer. Minutes waiting to simply be logged on to a dick joke blog are minutes we shall never recover. Peace out, fellows. Goodbye.
I’ve brought it up in corporate. I will keep doing so.
I can’t get on at all when I am on the DoD VPN, but otherwise I haven’t had any problems. I never log off, so that isn’t a problem either.
Huh, I thought it was just my internet connection. Oh well.
(proceeds to raid Fronkenshteen’s liquor stash)
Nah — this place can be fast. What kind of hipster bullshit is telling a man how to read?
Sorry that sounded bitchy. I am who is frustrated with the speed.

Preemptive DUDE
J.J. Watt: “I’m going to win a championship in Arizona.”
Larry Fitzgerald: hysterically laughing mixing into hysterically crying that eventually takes over.
OR
Larry Fitzgerald: “Go ahead! Throw your career away!”
Year 3 of the Kliff Kingsbury experiment and Arizona seems to be all in on….reaching the post-season once.
I’m drunk. Time to REALLY start drinking.
/ punches head repeatedly
Youse and Rikki are a shining example FOAR US ALL.
Did Paul Wight even show up?
Whichever Commentist recommended “The Sisters Brothers” as a good read, I thank you heartily. I tore through that mofo.
I saw today that our libraries here are starting to reopen in a limited capacity.
If I were a smart Hippo, I would stop using Amazon as a library. My bedroom closet is starting to look all hoarder-y with finished tomes.
I have less than ten books. I rarely reread anything and get only anxiety out of the idea of a “book collection”.
I have only re-read like two books. Just seems shameful to throw good ones away.
I have a free little library down the road that gets the used books I inevitably get for Christmas/birthday. I personally think they’re stupid (just use the free big library that your taxes already pay for!) but it meets the level of effort I’m willing to give book rehoming.
I did not see that! My Nook habit is getting out of control, and I’m ready to turn the page.
I also thought that was really good. Worth a repeat reading.
That was me, at least recently. Glad you liked it.
Currently reading a history of the American Revolution. Really pulling for those plucky colonists.
Martini time? Yes, yes, I do believe it is.
Excellent choice. Rye over here
It makes for a weird day when you decide you’ve had enough to drink before the sun has even gone down.
How about when you decide you’ve had enough when the sun has just reached it’s zenith? And then you go against that decision?
On a non-holiday Monday, that’s just GOOD HUSTLE
Finished up the onion soup for dinner tonight. It definitely gets better overnight.
Today’s Mock Draft shows we’re all a bunch of perverts. Nearly 300 last week. Less than half that this week.
I am not even remotely surprised.
Next week, If You Were On General Hospital, Which Star Would You Bang?
