Boris’s Week Two Autopsy
Again, here is where I will dissect my own advice. What went well, what did not, and what was missed.
That late hammer I was talking about? I guess it was the one from Thor Ragnarok. Seriously, when Cate Blanchett breaks Mjölnir, I got rattled…just like yesterday.
My lineups across 3 sites:
DK Herbert Chubb Mitchell Lamb
Meyers Higbee Allen Cardinals |
SD Herbert CMC Harris (Pitt) Williams Lamb Chase Gronk
|
FD Herbert Mitchell Chubb Lamb ARob Allen Cook Metcalf Cardinals |
Cashed on SD
Lost $ everywhere else
Good
Kyler Murray was great. I wish I paid up for him.
Russ also got after it, could’ve gone here too.
Brady is quite good, and clearly still motivated. He will need to be considered going forward despite his lack of mobility. This Tampa offense looks and feels like a 2007 offense that set records.
Hurts likely got it done for you here with a low 5.6 score from passing but 14.2 rush stats for 19.8 DK points and right around what we needed at a cash game spot.
CMC was fine but may likely cost you at other spots as he “only” scored 23 points.
Ekeler showed how he can be utilized in this offense under OC Lombardi. I’ve heard some pundits claim that he will be a top 5 RB this season.
Najee Harris is benefitting from being the lone back in Pitt despite a completely revamped O-line.
Fournette, despite my crap game script call, secured you over 11 DK points. I’ve made worse calls.
I did say the Falcons were bad vs TEs, now I’m concerned about people starting to get back on a high priced Gronk, but Falcons do suck vs TEs.
If you paid down to Drake, he got you basically where you needed to be, but lacked the upside to cover any deficiencies elsewhere.
Tyler Lockett is clearly being featured in the deep passing game, which is working. I will need to look into this more.
Mike Williams is indeed the X, but Allen is viable too (did not expect Allen to be 50% owned in cash games though.)
Lamb is gross.
Tompa Bay receivers – the answer was Evans.
Courtland Sutton is an ANIMAL. I’ve loved him since he was drafted, and yesterday is but a taste of what he is capable.
Patriots Defense can still make a rookie QB look like a rookie QB.
A Defense vs Jacksonville is a Defense to be considered.
Bad
Herbert and Dak. This game just never exploded the way I thought it would. I did say that many others would be interested in going here, which I now realize was my subconscious planting the seeds for my own demise. Group think, in general, is a real fucking problem in life; it’s the same in DFS. That being said, why these two offenses didn’t make it July 4th is something I will need to spend some time on this week.
Burrow ultimately did not get it done with his overall score. However, this dude definitely showed me something by not quitting after 3 INTs. He rallied for 2 TDs after all of that. He’s full of piss and vinegar, kind of like me while writing this.
Alvin Kamara. The TV guys were blaming it on every other coach missing the game due to Covid reasons, but I’m not sure what to make of this going forward. This might be a tough price to pay.
Nick Chubb. Sigh…….takes a deep breath….this really, really pisses me off. Nick Chubb averaged 8 yards per carry yesterday. The Texans D is fucking bad….like real bad. Like could lose to a college team bad; especially against the middle of the field, and especially against the run. They gave Chubb 11 carries. That’s it. I’m so pissed. Despite only getting 11 carries and 12 overall touches, this stud still put up 98 total yards and a TD, but ultimately it’s bad cuz we needed more. Honestly, it’s on me cuz he was my stone cold lock. I thought this output was the worst it could have been, and it honestly could have been worse had Chubb not had a 30 yard TD scamper late in the game.
Miles Sanders and the Eagles are simply not to be trusted. Hurts should be fine going forward for the most part, but why Sanders, like Chubb, is not featured is simply beyond me. I know that’s not good enough, but Jebus effing Christ why coaches don’t put the ball into the hands of their better players sometimes ruins my Sundays.
Monty ultimately did not get there, but it wasn’t due to a lack of trying. I wonder what might have been had the Cleveland staff given their RB1 22 touches…Bengals do again look better vs the run than I thought they would though.
What is in the water in SF? Like seriously? Their RBs just keep going down. Mitchell got hurt, then had to go back into the game after Sermon AND Hasty got hurt. Also, Mitchell had a TD taken away from him cuz this is a game of inches and HD TVs. In any event, Mitchell and the SF ground game was not featured as much as I thought it would be, but it does appear like Mitchell will be the featured back going forward. Hasty had a little too many goalline reps though… and being a SF RB is apparently a ticket to injury. It just keeps happening. They honestly have not had a steady, reliable, non-injury prone back since Frank Gore.
I’m listing ARob as a “bad,” because you can’t rely on TDs in DFS. Had he not gotten that TD, ARob would have hurt you. Dalton was injured in the first half, which I am sure played into ARob’s overall performance.
Meyers fell victim to a negative game script. He had 4 catches in the first half and then wasn’t needed as all the Pats had to do was play good D and run the ball. DID YOU WATCH THAT CLEVELAND??????
Callaway likely sucks. Also, if a Defense takes away Kamara, are the Saints any good?
If you paid down to Cedrick Wilson, it might have been good enough if you paid up, correctly, to the other spots, but ultimately he didn’t get to where we needed.
Higbee burnt me good. I should have known better too. One of my rules is that Sean McVay is not to be trusted. This also highlights another lesson I should have learned by now…paying down at TE, at least right now, is not a wise investment and is entirely TD reliant.
The Saints. I was wise to their injury issues, but I was not wise to the 8 coaches who were not with the team yesterday because of close contact Covid protocol. That is entirely on me, I need to be better. Having 8 coaches not on the sideline to help your team is a really big deal.
The Cardinals shit performance on Defense was just the icing on my shitcake of a Sunday.
Misses
Derek Carr might be a thing.
Teddy Bridgewater. I had him written up, but ultimately didn’t go that route and didn’t want to recommend him with the ceiling of these higher priced guys. Bridgewater was in the lineup that took down a major gpp yesterday (with Sutton and Fant paired with him).
Dal Cook and Derrick Henry shouldn’t have done what they did. Henry especially. My initial thought is that the middle of Seattle’s defense is not good. The Titans did exactly what I would have done against Seattle, but I always don’t trust coaches to do that, especially in a negative game script. The Titans were facing a negative game script but still utilized Henry unlike what they did during week one. When it comes to Cook, I’m concerned he is an injury waiting to happen, and he’ll like get one next time I play him. What is nice to see though is that the Vikings still believe in their run game despite their front office issues.
Buffalo RBs…if you played either, you are likely not unhappy on Monday. I should’ve been wise to this since the Dolphins blow against the run, but the Bills are not a running team, at least not with their RBs. I don’t think there’s a world where I would recommend Singletary nor Moss unless the price and matchup dictated it. Yesterday might have been that day.
Cooper Kupp. Again, McVay is not to be trusted. All signs pointed to Robert Woods having the better matchup on the outside here, but that’s not what the Rams did. I was not high on Kupp in seasonal as Bobby Trees is more of the type of receiver that Stafford has had success with over the years (Calvin Johnson, Marvin Jones, Kenny Golladay), but I’m clearly wrong here.
Michael Pittman. If you read my week one article and my week one review, I would think you can only imagine my rage here.
Henry Ruggs. Nelson Agholor made me a decent amount of $ in the role Ruggs now has. Something to keep tabs on going forward.
As the resident Raiders expert [points to stab wounds] I think the Raiders are going to try to use Ruggs like the Chiefs use Hill (except with hopefully less child-beating). They made a point of getting him the ball in space a lot yesterday. I actually wish Agholor was still around; they could still use him.
I think TMR should have sought out some more receivers this off season. But, you know, Gruden and his team management isn’t always good.
The Waller/Renfroe/Ruggs combination has the potential to be spectacular, if Ruggs can continue to have games like he just did.
Renfroe is so little on the field. I’m amazed that Brady hasn’t scooped him up and made him the new Welker.
I’m not into gambling so much, but these are nonetheless interesting and very well written. Nice addition.
Speaking of gambling, according to WEEI, someone has a ticket from, I think, MGM Grand, for a 16 game parlay. They are 15-0 going in to tonight, and if Detroit beats Green Bay that person will turn $25 into something like $756K.
There is no chance that Detroit beats Green Bay, (and if, as was suggested, the casino offers to buy back the ticket for something like $25K-$50K the bettor should leap on it), but I’m still gonna root like hell for the Lions.
I changed my Loser pool entry from DET to ATL. There’s a non-zero (but not great) chance that the Packers are just fucked beyond all fuckitude. I could squint and see a No-Fuck Lions win.
I love to see The House take a beating as much as the next guy, but I suspect A-A-Ron is going to fuck over the Lions just to show that he can, then spend the rest of the season alternating between moping and playing until Green Bay ships him off, or Jeopardy! calls back.
Seems like the bettor could just load up huge on the Green Bay moneyline and split the difference.
Oh wow, a -590 moneyline? So they’ve got to lay out 590k to get back 100k? I wonder if a loan shark would put that up knowing that it’s completely safe.
First things first:
Please to make your acquaintance Boris! I have a bad habit of not being on the site in the off season, but i’m always glad to make an internet friend!
I was losing my shit early in the late games yesterday because after eeeking out a win in week 1, i was hoping the combination of Murray/Henry/Hopkins/Jones would…. you know….
…actually fucking play like Murray/Henry/Hopkins/Jones!
all my starters went fucking super saiyan in their second halves, but I know i can’t keep this up. all my other running backs suck, (sanders and the green bay back up who’s name I can’t remember) and the guy throwing to my TE sounds like the love child of Caleb Haine and Chris Winkie.
not sure what i’m complaining about, but yeah, there you go. Keep up the good work
I will get to know Boris like my dog gets to know other dogs: Live in fear of the other, but still sniff the buttock region at least once.
lol….should I be worried???
No, just make sure to point your buttocks toward the west and try not to shart.
These detailed autopsies are really cool, and I wish I had that level of discipline and self-awareness.
Really enjoying your contributions to the site.
Thank you. Today’s article was real tough to write, but I think it’s also really important for self growth and accountability. I barely ever see those in the fantasy football industry dissect their own advice. No one at ESPN does, at least not in print
I appreciate your willingness to engage and learn from the mistakes made by boristhen.
This joke is so dumb that it’s perfect
i always try to remember why i started someone over someone else, but never write it down like this. Same with FF waiver wire adds, mean to go see what the others around them before the games would have scored. Some day and when I have more time and more the memory of Dory.
Lol. Yup. It’s not easy writing it up when it was a bad week and you are already pressed for time.
What are your thoughts on DK Metcalf? He was supposed to be Seattle’s #1 option but that seems more and more to be Lockett’s spot.
I would think his price would go down and then he could step up but that may be wishful thinking on my part.
I think Lockett seems to be the best pick to throw people off of Metcalf. Metcalf can also block for Lockett on a quick bubble screen pass. Metcalf is still a great receiver, but I’m guessing they want to establish Lockett so the DC’s in the league won’t know which CB to put on which guy.
This. Metcalf is likely getting most of the attention off of his year last season, (I haven’t see Seattle play this year; could be talking right out my ass, as per usual), which frees up Lockett. Once defenses focus more on Lockett, Metcalf will go off.
I’m not worried about Metcalf. This happens every year, Lockett shows up for a few games and goes bananas but then disappears for a month. Metcalf’s games are coming.
I’ve had Singletary every year and I thought yesterday that if he can’t break a long run he’s sorta not good. Bills barely bothering with him inside the 10.
Hurts looks good. He is going to consistently put up numbers.
