This time of year, it’s normal to say what you are thankful for. I don’t really like that because it sounds like a humble brag sometimes. I was literally surrounded by women yesterday.

Both daughters brought a charcuterie thing that was insane and then well fuck, I made bread and mac and cheese and we had smoked meats.

I’ve still got potatoes, homemade chicken stock, a head of roasted garlic and a goddamn cabinet full of cans of green beans, cream of mushroom soup and those dried onion things.

The fresh bread and mac and cheese delivered as promised.

The 5 women who surrounded me were eldest right, youngest right, eldest granddaughter, the Wahini and littlest right.

C’mon man? It was Thanksgiving!

Rocky II is on and while Rocky IV is my favorite Training Montage, Rocky II is a close second due to his training run to the Rocky Steps showing that he and by extension most of the kids in 1982 Philadelphia have either has the stamina to run more than one marathon and/or has teleportation powers.

The fight though loses points due to the fact that the Referee should’ve stopped the fight before they both fell because just as Rocky is throwing his last punches, Apollo was no longer capable of defending himself (a deadly foreshadowing if you will) and also when they both fell, the count should’ve been just for Apollo as Rocky’s falling was not due to Apollo hitting him; he fell down because of his momentum. By rule, Rocky’s falling would’ve been ruled a “slip” and the 10 count should’ve been just for Apollo.

But I’m thinking that the Rocky universe is run by different rules because the following fights results would’ve been different in the real world:

  • Creed-Balboa I: Apollo wins by TKO after Round 14 due to Rocky being too injured to fight.
  • Creed-Balboa II: Rocky wins by TKO in Round 15 due to Apollo no longer defending himself.
  • Balboa-Thunderlips: Thunderlips wins by Countout. Rocky was clearly out of the ring for longer than a count of 10.
  • Balboa-Thunderlips: either Thunderlips win by DQ or Double DQ. Thunderlips was choking Rocky in a illegal move and Paulie hit Thunderlips with a chair to break it up.
  • Balboa-Lang I: No Contest. There is no way a fight would’ve happened when the champions manager has a heart attack. Since Mickey’s heart attack was caused by Lang, the fight would’ve happened in a courtroom for either Civil or Criminal Reasons.
  • Balboa-Lang II: Balboa wins by TKO in Round 3. Rocky unloading dozens of punches at Lang with Lang just standing there should’ve been the referees cue to stop the fight as Lang is no longer able to defend himself.
  • Creed-Drago: Drago wins by TKO in or after Round 1. Creed was clearly out classed and unable to defend himself. Even if Rocky doesn’t stop the fight, the referee and doctor should’ve stopped the fight, as letting it continues would’ve put them in professional and legal jeopardy.
  • Creed-Drago: Creed wins by DQ in Round 2. Drago clearly makes contact with the referee to shove him out of the way. That is clearly against the rules.
  • Balboa-Drago: Balboa wins by DQ in Round 1. Drago clearly picks Balboa up and throws him to the canvas. At the very least the referee should’ve stopped the match momentarily to be sure Balboa was okay warn Drago and deduct points.
  • Balboa-Drago: Balboa wins by DQ after Round 2. Drago, after the bell, pinning Balboa by the neck and hitting Balboa square in the face was clearly against the rules.
  • Balboa-Drago: Double DQ after Round 2. Rocky and Drago clearly fight after the bell should’ve been a sign the referee has lost control of the fight and it should be abandoned. At the very least the referee should’ve gone to both corners to warn both fighters that any continued disregard for the rules will not be tolerated.
  • Balboa-Drago: Balboa wins by TKO after Round 14. The fight would’ve been awarded to Balboa, as Drago would be no condition to fight, as he is being dragged out to be shot for assaulting a member of the Supreme Soviet in public.
  • Balboa-Dixon: Dixon wins by TKO in or after Rounds 1 or 2. Dixon completely outclassing Rocky should’ve been a sign the fight should’ve been stopped.
  • Balboa-Dixon: No Contest or Balboa wins by TKO after Round 2. Dixon, clearly injuring himself after punching Rocky hip, should’ve warranted the fight doctor to inspect Dixon’s hand and possibly stopping the fight. As the injury was not caused by Balboa, the fight might’ve been ruled No Contest.
  • Creed-Conlan: Conlan wins by TKO after Round 14. Regardless of Creed’s apparent telepathic powers, him correctly guessing how many fingers the doctor has up, shouldn’t change the fact that Creed eye was clearly swollen and he could no longer see clearly enough to defend himself.
  • Creed-Drago II: Drago wins by TKO in Round 10. Creed, clearing breaking his ribs, should’ve been a sign that he is too injured to fight.
  • Creed-Drago II: Creed wins by TKO in Round 10. Drago, clearing unable/unwilling to defend himself, should’ve been a sign to the referee that he should stop the fight and not let his father see his son go through a mental breakdown in the middle of a heavyweight fight.
