Shout-Out to Matt Groening before the money poured in! A person you don’t know passed away yesterday. She lived her entire life trying to make other people’s lives better. She was the humblest person I’ve ever known. Cancer took her away. She didn’t deserve this. She was a queen . Life goes on. And on.
It’s Sunday And Things Aren’t Right-An Open Thread

Weekend reading:
My gig fell through, so off to the opera!
(The opera is one that Senorita Weaselo is playing, so it’s a comp.)
(The show is Hansel and Gretel, in English.)
(But hey, one of my friends from grad school is here! Fun fact, we went to the same undergrad, but as she’s a soprano, I didn’t hang with that circle much. But she was the first friendly face I saw during grad school assessments and ended up dating one of my friends for a while… she was definitely too good and too sweet for him.)
What does Senorita play? Or does she sang?
yeah right’s post made me think – what bands/artists did everyone see live, multiple times? I will start with a band I saw twice while in college (my drinking buddy met his first wife at their gig at the Cat’s Cradle – shockingly, I was the one who had the balls – ie, drunk enough – to get the girls’ number, so I “picked” her friend, who blew me off completely after chatting for a bit, turned out they were (i) high school seniors, not college freshmen; and (ii) the friend had the clap anyway, so BULLET DODGED):
These guys are still playing, and I saw ’em at least thrice:
They always closed with this:
I’ve seen this band (it’s more like a guy, really) like four times.
This is the last of my list, they closed with this both times I saw them. I recall that time 2 was with then-wife, we saw these for me (and were like the oldest people at the venue) and James Taylor for her (we were almost certainly the youngest people at the venue – but it was a good show):
Multiple times?
Ministry
Static-X
Social Distortion
Slayer
Pantera
Ozzy
Black Sabbath
James actually like 5 times
Yes
Devo
Echo and the Bunnymen
Boingo
English Beat
Talking Heads 3 times
B-52s
Primus
Black Crowes 4 times
Christ there are tons more but that’s the start anyway.
I’ve seen a shitload of concerts, man.
I’ve seen a billion bands twice, so I had to trim the list to 3+.

KROQ does the flashback Sunday thing in the morning and I heard this beauty going to the store this morning.
Sex Police had this played on 120, at least once. MAYBE twice?
Personal favourite about the anger in grief:
I got hammered with the late-Jan annual “the home builders need a XX% price cut” emails/calls last week.
This morning I’m reading National Association of Homebuilders press releases warning about the increased costs due to (was-threatened-now-live) tariffs.
They will be directly quoted in my Notice of Increase letter that will be going out next week. Not that it will matter– when lumber goes up, the framing is the most expensive part of the house and it’s going to knock so many buyers out. When houses were $400k, you could force on $15K for the lumber add on Covid buyers. Now people are tapped out — and so long as rates stay high, existing-builds are not for sale.
Also super cool, I see the NAHB wrote a letter to Trump asking, due to the housing crisis, to not place the tariffs on new home building materials. So that’ll be in my back pocket — they thought they bought the guy, they’re responsible for “making deals” with him.
Adding this to my ‘fuck you’ list.
Oh, you had plans to build a house but then the guy you voted for because you’re not comfortable with the Ethiopian restaurant down the street jacked the price of lumber 25% and now you’re priced out of construction and still paying a mortgage and property taxes on an empty lot?
Fuck you.
i mean come on
