Notes and Comments
The two Games of the Week from last week (Geelong v Western and Hawthorn v Brisbane) had surprising outcomes. Geelong and Western played a tough and tight game that was only decided in the final quarter. Meanwhile, Brisbane managed to blow out the Hawks. I really expected that one to be closer.
The GWS Giants looked A LOT better beating the Carlton Blues on the road. They seemed to really get up for Toby Greene’s 250th game. He played really well and was chaired off at the end of the match. The question is whether GWS can keep the momentum going.
#1 Collingwood did steamroll the North Melbourne Kangaroos and are still the class of the league. I am more and more impressed with Geelong’s victory over them earlier this season. I still don’t think too many teams can beat them come finals time.
Sydney is now, all of a sudden, struggling. They lost to Melbourne by 53. There’s something seriously wrong there. Melbourne is not that good and I didn’t think Sydney was that bad.
Next week, we have four teams on bye: Carlton, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, and Western. That reminds me that the AFL still haven’t figured out how to reschedule the Gold Coast v Essendon match from the beginning of the year that got cancelled due to Cyclone Arthur.
SonOfSpam has reclaimed the top spot in the Tipping Contest with a very respectable showing this week. Congrats to Yeah Right and Dolph Ucker for getting the week’s high scores!
If you are a member of an AFL club or you got a Watch AFL membership, you should be able to watch every AFL and AFLW game, including replays. Game times vary between Australian afternoon and evening, which actually makes it easier for us in North America to watch as the games can be seeing in the evenings on Pacific Time and early mornings on Eastern time.
If you haven’t become a member of a club or signed up for the Watch AFL app, you can still watch the AFL and AFLW games in the USA on either FS1 or FS2 and in Canada on TSN. Showtimes can be found here on the Australian Football Association of North America website. But I do recommend that you join a club. It’s fun and they send you free shit.
See you next week!
