TGIF! Baseball playoff fever, catch it! Well, not today, but tomorrow! Also, did you know we’re already 1/4th of the way through football season? What I’m saying is enjoy every day, even when it’s a Thursday night.
Word Count Filler Time
Here’s some fun information about food that you, an erudite reader of this dick joke blog, already know. This is for the random visitor that hasn’t signed up yet to help them gain the necessary enlightenment to participate in our high brow comment section.
French Fries
The dimwitted think these fries originated in France. They of course originated in Belgium and were brought back from soldiers during WW Dos. They are called French because they are cut julienne style in thin strips, also known as French style.
Belgium Waffles
Speaking of Belgium, they have nothing to do with this delectable breakfast staple. These are all American. During the New York World Fair in 1964 an enterprising food vendor wanted to add some fluff to his waffles and did so with a dash of yeast in the batter. That vendor apparently had a marketing executive side to his mind and added an exotic name to make them sound more appealing.
Chinese Invented Pasta
There’s actually no way to prove this. However, story was the one and only Marco Polo brought noodles back to Italy after visiting China. This, of course, is not true. Italy had been making pasta from wheat flour for centuries. Mama mia! The Chinese, however, had also been making noodles but their pasta was made from rice or buckwheat. All pastas, but different.
Twinkies
Some folks think a Twinkie will stay fresh forever due to the massive amount of preservatives. But that’s not actually the case. Twinkies stay fresh because they don’t have any dairy products in it. What is in that cream in middle? Don’t ask, don’t tell. At any rate, a Twinkie will stay fresh for about a month, if you can avoid eating it for that long.
Sugar Hyperactivity
Actual scientists have done actual experiments to link sugar intake in children to hyperactivity. And they found nothing, even in a double blind test. They only link they could find with any certainty was that parents where more likely to think their child was misbehaving after eating sugar.
Enough food talk. Let’s all order in that shame dinner now and get rested up for this wonderful weekend in front of us.
