“We Got Him!”: A Scatter-Brained Fan Assesses The Giants Harbaugh Hire

If I go off the rails here I blame this Benylin/whiskey cocktail. I call it The Abyss. Two can play this game, Sharky!

Unless the Mara’s screw this up on a monumental scale, John Harbaugh is the next coach of the NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS.

Just so you know, I don’t do the Twitter or Bluesky but crap leaks thru so the following is a combo of standalone observations and rebuttals to stuff I’ve seen.

-Finally, a winner instead of winging it with an unknown quantity. (Shurmur excepted) After the hiring of Judge, McAdoo and Daboll I always tried to hit the brakes and realize that I wasn’t in the interview room so I know so very little compared to those that did the hiring, what their criteria was, etc. I was generally hopeful that Joe Judge was a keeper despite being a Special Teams guy. (his teams were special, that’s for sure)

-I recall Daboll’s early success and DonT saying that he didn’t have any respect for him because he screamed at his players, demeaning them. I thought Daboll was ‘vocal’ in holding players to account and going to lay off in his 2nd year. Nope. DonT was right-the guy was just a dumbass that belittled his guys.

-Look, Harbaugh wins, he wins a lot and is accustomed to doing so. The Giants haven’t had that aura around the franchise since Coughlin left for Sunnyvale Acres.

-“But he’s probably bringing in Todd Monken as OC-the guy that everyone said should be fired!” Welp, the knock against him was that he wasn’t running Henry enough. Thing is, there’s no Henry as far as the eye can see in the Giants backfield and no one is going to give Sk8boi 25 carries. If you look at the Ravens before he arrived you’ll see split backfields, which is exactly what’s going to happen next season with that Looney Tunes dude and Tyrone Tracy.

-“He choked out in the playoffs!” Playoffs!? Giants fans would be giddy as hell to have that problem. Let’s get there first.

-Sorry in advance, the Giants are going to be in SO MANY featured games next year because the expectation is that they’ll be so much better.

-And why shouldn’t they be? The Eagles defense is awesome but that locker room and the player’s seeming love for melodrama could cause the team to implode next year. The Commies have the oldest team in the league-2024 was a mirage. And the Cowboys? Jerry will undermine the team once again by making it all about him. May he be General Manager in perpetuity.

-There’s enough young talent in key spots to catch some teams by surprise. The skill spots are a dicey but explosive (in good and bad ways) unit, the d-line is very good and there is depth there. PFF has rated the offensive line as a top 10 unit which tells me there’s work to be done with their metrics but for the purposes of my well-being I’m running with it.

-That Pete Carroll Effect: “At 63, the game has passed him by.” Ouch! This is that one niggling concern, that he’s on the downside but my hope is that it’s a “Montana on the Chiefs” situation-there’s just enough left in the tank to make a positive difference.
