The week has to start somewhere, don’t it?
I think that football fans got everything they wanted out of yesterday. So many boxes checked. Snow. Tight defensive struggle. Wide-open scoring. Redemption arc fulfilled. Young gun (JSN) comes up huge on national stage.
One thing I noted during the Seattle tilt was the way that the OC Klint Kubiak kept Darnold moving around in the pocket. Not a lot, but prevented him from being a static target. I think this practice also served to keep him in rhythm throughout the game. His footwork was superlative, a skillset that I had no idea he possessed.
Flotsam and Jetsam:
-What is with all these coaching candidates bailing on teams? McDaniel noping the Browns, Rivers cutting things short with the Bills, Mike Kafka blowing off the Eagles for a nebulous role with Detroit? And I’ve not even scratched the surface. Are these guys finally realizing that no situation is better than a bad situation? Did you see that report that guys who want the Cleveland job are subjected to? There’s homework, essays, personality tests and interview panels to negotiate before you get to negotiations.
-Stafford gave the obligatory (he is 37), “six months is a long way away” response when asked what his plans were for next year. Will he be that rare jewel that bows out at the height of his powers? Nope. Why? Spotrac tells me that there’s another 40-48 million bucks to be earned. That would nudge his career total to just under half a billion buckets. I feel sick to my stomach.
-Seattle opened as 3.5 favorites and that has risen by a pioint.
-Aden Durde: Who the hell is that? He’s the Seahawks DC that no one ever talks about. He’s done a helluva job putting MacDonald’s defensive concepts into practice.
There’s a couple of ranked college teams playing each other and lot’s of hawkey so have at it.
