Sharkbait’s Cocktail of the Week: Pass The Bleach

I have no words. Which is ironic considering this is the second attempt at writing this post. Attempt number one was started around 1 am Wednesday morning and cut off when Mrs. Sharkbait came downstairs at 2:30 to convince me to go to bed. What I had written was a whiskey and gin fueled very harsh and over the top six hundred word reactionary venting post and direct call out of at least 2 members of my extended family that voted Trump. I’m glad Mrs. Sharkbait came down when she did. It got very personal, and would have been extremely wrong to run it. Not that I don’t think it had some decent points about wanting them to sit down with my daughter and explain to her why they voted to diminish her rights, as well as wanting them to explain why they voted to tank the economy. I even got rid of a halfway decent RFK/Sirhan Sirhan joke too.

Now I’m back to square one and it seems so is most of the country. We get what we deserve and clearly we deserve this kind of chaos and disarray. I don’t know where to go from here. This feels different than 2016 did. Back then it seemed there was a modicum of hope that the guardrails would prevail. This time? It seems way bleaker and we’re in for some dark times ahead.

Wanting a mental escape, I was in the mood for something Tiki related. I texted my friend who bartends at a tiki bar, and he suggested this concoction.

I know there isn’t much to see. But it needed to be served in the tiki mug

My friend told me to “definitely split that in half. Or you know, don’t” Unfortunately, I wasn’t left with much of a choice since I didn’t even have an ounce of lime juice, since the lime I had was drier than Ben Shapiro’s wife. Second, I wasn’t paying attention and added too much Allspice, when I was at the Falernum stage. So we’ll see how this comes out.

Alright, so even fucking up this is pretty good. It’s heavier on the Allspice (no shit), but I think increasing the following ingredients helped mitigate the damage of my not paying attention. It is also very strong, given this is a split base drink with two different rums at work. Even though it’s quite strong, it’s definitely still drinkable. As to the lime? My mistake definitely makes it so I lose most of what little flavor the miniscule lime juice I was able to add here. I think I might get some at the very end, but that might only be because I’m really looking for it. Speaking of the end, the finish is rum heavy still, but again, still very drinkable. Right in my wheelhouse for sure. It’s surprisingly not as allspice heavy at the end. I think the ice melting might have helped out that fact. I really wish I was paying attention when mixing to get a proper representation of this drink. Although for messing up the ratios, this still turned out pretty good. It definitely brings me to a warmer place mentally.

On the topic of messing up. We sure did. I think we as a society showed our true colors, which is extremely depressing. So what now? I don’t know honestly. My mindset right now just says we need to move onward because at this point, that’s all we can do right?

Unsurprised

I don’t want to be around you all anymore.

Not just because I don’t care about the election, but because if the last nine years are any indication, trying to enjoy myself isn’t going to happen because the jokes are lazy and for whatever reason there is zero introspection possible on this subject and zero actual awareness of what MAGA thinks or is saying (and people acting like that little nazi twink Fuentes matters to anyone but his twenty teenage followers is a fucking dunce). I think back to how bipartisanship is great unless it’s Trump. Bernie and Tulsi tried eight years ago and they were loudly and viciously admonished by the Democrats for trying to communicate in good faith with the President-Elect who, at the time, could be talked into literally anything if it was attached to flattery. The spite isn’t one-sided and it’s all retarded. And so the butcher of Baghdad, a man who’s responsible for more Muslim and Arab deaths than anyone since the great Khans, is okay to make common cause with, but this dipshit loser from Queens is the devil.

Fucking pathetic.

And that’s the problem. I couldn’t care less about that. No one has my back. Neither he or Harris would make the world better in any way. I hate them both and wish they both lost. And I gave up enough of my life to politics that I cannot and will not spend any more on something that does not affect me beyond tax policy because I just happened to finally luck into making six figures but yet I’m still broke as fuck.

But you guys caring makes it impossible for me to enjoy myself here.

ballsofsteelandfury

Honestly, it’s a football site, not a politics site.

It’s a whatever we care about site, including butts.

2Pack

More butts please.

Brick Meathook
2Pack

A pretty one sided political site. Or an echo chamber.

SonOfSpam

Like-minded folks. As for “one-sided” well, the other side is horrid. And we’re objectively not.

Horatio Cornblower

I mean, I’m pretty horrid.

SonOfSpam

Oh sure, but there are, like, degrees.

2Pack

Not most of them. They just disagree with you. That doesn’t make them all horrid.
I will defend thier right to be them just as much as I’ll defend your right to be you.

SonOfSpam

Voting for Trump is a character flaw. You’ve got something broken inside if you support him. I’d make a Mussolini comparison, but he was kinda smart at least.

Brick Meathook

Most of them didn’t vote for Trump. They voted against the far-left, who have now put that idiot in office twice.

SonOfSpam

Nah. They voted for Trump. If they hated the “far left” (which wasn’t on the ballot) that much they could have sat out. They looked at that racist misogynist idiot and thought “cool” and filled in his name.

Redshirt

Actually, I think they did exactly what Harris asked them to do: they didn’t vote for Trump. The problem was she didn’t give them enough reason to vote for her. They all voted Present, like I told my Trump family I did.

SonOfSpam

The “reason to vote for her” was that the only alternative was Trump, and that should have been good enough. If you sat out, then you’re saying he’s acceptable. Anyway. Boobs.

Doktor Zymm

That’s not a practical argument in a country where voter turnout has never topped 63%. ‘Meh’ is always the most popular candidate

ballsofsteelandfury

It’s not like-minded. The liberals on this site greatly outweigh the conservatives and expect everyone to think the way they do. Poor Redshirt has been the lone person brave enough to admit they are conservative but I know there are others that don’t want to speak out because political discussion is not why we are here.

For the record, I’m independent and apolitical like 2Pack. There have been and will continue to be good people on both sides.

The reason why this country is as divided as it is is because people from both sides are demonizing the other. That needs to stop.

Brick Meathook

I only write my own name in every election. My motto:

“Don’t Blame Me, I Voted For Me”

Doktor Zymm

Can you do that por propositions too? Yes, no, or brick

I voted Madre Weaselo for mayor because I couldn’t put myself in yet.

Fuck it, Senor Weaselo 2028. Who’s with me?

The right-wing media complex has been demonizing the left (women, gays, minorities, etc.) for 30+ years. There is no equivalent on the left. So I can’t buy the “both sides” argument. If you want to argue marginal tax rates, or defense spending, great. But that’s not what MAGA is about at all. It’s about hate, and ignorance, and having zero standards for their leader. You and Redshirt and 2Pack don’t always agree with others on the site, and that’s good and healthy. But you didn’t vote for Trump, and there’s a reason for that. Both sides are not the same when MAGA is one of them.

Doktor Zymm

The left-wing media complex is pretty wingnutty too, they’re just still handing out poorly xeroxed newsletters instead of talking crap while playing Fortnite

Doktor Zymm

The root of divisions likely aren’t political, although politicians are more than happy to exploit and deepen them. I still think anyone who actually wants to run for president shouldn’t be allowed to.

2Pack

Please stay.
As a current DOD employee my standards of conduct require I remain apolitical. That includes my behavior on social media. I recommend it. It isolates turmoil that I do well without.
I have served my country for 47 years. My entire adult life, signing up at 17. I have served under 8 presidents, four from each party. They have all done good things and bad things navigating the most difficult job on the planet. They were all elected by the people I serve. And they, and all others elected and appointed over me have had my very best support. They earned it by gaining a majority of the people’s vote.
I wish we could leave it at that, and treat each other better, even when we disagree.

I don’t believe that for one second. Two seconds? Sure.

Self-care is important, so if the politics talk bums you out, probably avoid this place for a while. People around here talk about everything that concerns them, or interests them, or turns them on. And I’m gonna guess that, for a considerable while, politics is gonna be high on the list of conversation topics.

Doktor Zymm

It’s a community, we talk about the things people talk about in communities and right now that happens to be the election. Politics will always come up, but everyone will settle back into life and other topics will come to the forefront, like when the hell did the Bengals get a halfway decent run defense?? So take a break for sure, but maybe check back in later on

SonOfSpam

Sure, I bailed mostly the last couple days. Not because of all y’all, but because I was in despair mode and couldn’t handle anything. Today? Well, it’s Friday and the sun’s out.

I am literally a Republican who believes in pro-life (with exceptions), gun rights (with restrictions for safety and common good), limited welfare (government should help those who need help but can’t do it themselves, not those who want help but won’t do it themselves) and limited government (people run the government, not the other way around), and at no time did I feel afraid or hesitant to reveal my true feelings and beliefs.

Not sure what you’re saying but you do you.

SonOfSpam

Dunno man, I wanted to string you up but couldn’t find your address.

Weirdly (ok not at all weirdly) I think most people believe in what you mentioned (except that “pro-life” thing).

Redshirt

That’s the bitch if it: that’s what the majority of people believe. They problem is everyone else has the mics and the keys to the Clown Car.

SonOfSpam

Yep, most people are “fiscally conservative” in that we don’t want waste and ballooning deficits etc. But over the last 50 years that means you like Democratic presidents. We waste a HELL of a lot more money in tax breaks for oil companies and letting billionaires become multibillionaires than any amount of welfare fraud. But we can blame welfare fraud on minorities, so that’s the talking point. Biden increased the size of the IRS to catch tax cheats and it paid for itself. Easily.

Redshirt

Preaching to the choir on this one. Don’t piss off the _________; we need their money/votes.

Most issues only become a problem on even-numbered years.

Doktor Zymm

But what you’ve described is basically just classical Liberalism (yes, I know, far cry from what the word describes today, hence ‘classic’)

Redshirt

That’s what makes me a Moderate Republican or a Liberal Republican. If it wasn’t for my views on abortion and guns clashing with the Democrats, I’d probably be one.

Plus, if it’s not too soon, I have issues with the Democratic Party’s organization, following, executing their objectives and (ahem) winning elections.

Doktor Zymm

“Democratic Party’s organization, following, executing their objectives and (ahem) winning elections.”

Pretty sure this is also what I’ve heards from the majority of Dems 😂

I’m going to stay No Party Preference until thr US gets away from the 2-party system, so probably for life

Senor Weaselo

And I would be totally fine with some of those things! And disagree with others, of course, namely abortion which is of course a seemingly never-ending debate.

And that’s fine! I would love to feel like I have the option of voting Republican without feeling like I’m throwing a Molotov into our American dumpster. It’s just… so damn impossible to think that right now.

BugEyedBoo

Since 2022, there’s been a worldwide anti-incumbent wave, throwing all the bums out. Left, right, center, all ideologies. Biden did as well as or even better than anyone, but Harris was an incumbent, and got caught in the wave. It looks like about 8 million Biden voters didn’t think his policies deserved another term.

As for Trump, he’s a literal convicted felon, and is proud to be a racist. Evidently that’s not disqualifying.

BrettFavresColonoscopy

Why does the screenshot say you’re missing allspice dram? I mailed you some and it’s right fucking there in the picture (and the drink you made)

BrettFavresColonoscopy

Well he should restock his bar then

Tucked into a little box next to the Scientology TV studio on Sunset is the Tiki-Ti bar, family owned and operated. It has nothing to do with Scientology (that other property used to be the KCET PBS station until they sold it).

Anyways, Tiki-Ti has some mean drinks. The one I would always get is the “Ray’s Mistake” (because it’s a mistake if you have a second one. But I swear they taste like fruit punch and they sneak the hell up on you. Tiki-Ti is the size of a closet and it was last place in L.A. that allowed smoking, if that was something you cared to do. I haven’t been there in years but I’m sure it hasn’t changed since a bit.

Here’s the drink list:

Same with sister. No thanks.

yeah right

Over proof rum is fucking deadly. I worked with a Jamaican dude and when he caught a cold he would pour a shot of over proof into a hand towel and inhale the vapors.

Makes a hell of a cocktail though.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

At this point I don’t think the rich particularly want chaos, given how that they have already completed their regulatory capture of the entire U.S. government. One thing that I think is pretty amusing is that a lot of young Trump voters chose him because they bought into the fantasy that he will magically bring prices down – including the cost of housing – without completely cratering the economy. But just three days have gone by and the investment houses and capital management firms those young voters will be competing against already have 4% more wealth they can put into an all-cash offer against the mortgages those young folks will be able to scrape together.

Game Time Decision

my kids “joke” that the first time they will be able own a house will be when we die and they inherit one

Horatio Cornblower

My 401K is fucking soaring.

As (I think it was Dunstan) Dunstan said, “fuck you, I got mine.”

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Yeah, my thesis is that the incoming government is going to be 100% by the rich, for the rich, so inflating/maintaining asset prices is going to be their top priority (already supported by the amount of money flowing into stocks). If you’ve got a piece of that pie (stocks or real estate) it’s going to be a very lucrative time. If you don’t, you’re pretty well fucked.

Doktor Zymm

Until it isn’t of course. If we’re going to undo the last 100 years of financial regulations then the 2020s might end up being more like the 1920s than we ever expected. Although the windows in skyscrapers don’t open anymore, so that’ll be different

Horatio Cornblower

Any window will open.

You just have to want it bad enough.

Yeah, I want to see that one. Call out the relatives, fuck ’em.

I know my mother has voted Trump in the past. I’m not sure what she did this year as we’ve agreed we will not discuss politics ever again.
