Packers (+3) at Still-Kinda-Sorta-Fuck LioUns (1:00, Fox)

Oh men.  Men!  (and Doktors and Gumby-adjacents and any lurkers).

The Shield gazes deep into our eyes ad pulls out the very specialist gift.  Tis the NFC North, as Detroit battles it out with Green Bay.  Real stakes, too.  The loser drops to 3rd in the division, and risks missing the playoffs entirely (like most good Christian folk, I still expect the Bearistocrats! to implode, but one simply cannot assume such things).

Both squadrons can be happy they aren’t the 2025 Vikings.  Holy shit.

Detroit will run, run, then run some MOAR.  Poor Monty is being eased out to pasture, with Gibbs going Beast Mode of late.  But you have to expect them to involve their speedy WRs better than in recent games – even Gibbs is unlikely to wreak havoc against 8-man boxes (PHRASING).

Green Bay gets you with its front 4, though.  Really kind of murderous up front.  But their offense can be best described as passive (at best).  As such, these are fairly fun, contrasting styles of play.  I’m looking forward to this much better than the rest of the slate.

Easy walk to the hotel, haven’t been here since 2003 but I still have the knack of following the main way along the Grand Canal, and surprisingly I remember quite a bit.

Hotel is gorgeous, like basically everything here. “In the minibar you will find one bottle of wine, that is included with your booking. There is also water, that is extra”

When I was here last time I was 21 and had just graduated from college. I was on my first solo trip and had planned a sort of loop from Amsterdam through Germany and Switzerland and then back around via Paris with my rail pass before heading up to the north of England for a punk festival. I didn’t book anything in advance and had a printed out list of independent hostels for the cities I was planning on visiting. When I was in Geneva, I discovered the French trains were going to be on strike so I pulled out a map and decided to head to Venice instead, then hop an Easy Jet to London. And that’s what I did! Wasn’t planning on coming here so hadn’t done any research or know anything I wanted to see so I mostly just wandered around following groups of people to see if they were going anywhere interesting.

I didn’t take pictures at all back then, but I DID have a Livejournal. Gonna go dig out my Venice entries

I had to step away from my TV, but its a good thing the Lions kicked that field goal to get within one score. That way if they stopped the Packers on their next drive, they could slowly grind the clock to kick the tying touchdown and why is everyone rolling their eyes and laughing under their breaths?

I just remembered the Lions-Packers game where the Lions took the lead with a hail Mary pass with like 45 seconds to go. But then Rodgers threw his own bomb with almost no time left, once again sucking the milk from the nipples of mother hope dry for the Lions.
