Hello there fellow DFO’er. Hope you’re well today. And thanks for coming back to see last weeks tl;dr of last week as decided by my brain. There’s no reason as to why some comments make it and others don’t. Seriously. There isn’t.
It warms my little dark heart that the number of comments is down as I imagine that most are outs and abouts doing warm weather stuff. If not, please don’t tell me that you’re just lurking.
Without further ado, here are the comments of the week.
You would think with how much I read books as a child, I would remember more endings
… alright I’ll get back about this

I think a data center on every corner and a 50% increase in our electric bill (thanks, Ohio PUCO!) is a small price to pay to avail ourselves of the transformative power of AI.

Trump is a walking RICO case, but will never be prosecuted. He might cross the wrong briber down the road, the most realistic comeuppance.

A dude four years older than me drowned at the public beach in my hometown yesterday. Nice timing, random guy. smh…

Plaxico Burress compared playing with the Jets to prison:"They're both kind of similar because when I walked into prison on my first day, I was like, 'damn man you a fucking loser.' And I had the same damn feeling every day I walked through the door with the Jets."

FUN GEOGRAPHY FACT: The biggest lake on the planet is the Caspian Sea in Central Asia, and very far Eastern Europe. It’s so big, it’s filled with seawater.
THIS HAS BEEN YOUR USELESS GEOGRAPHY FACT BROUGHT TO YOU BY FORMER GEOGRAPY PROFESSOR WCS

There’s this weird thing about most of the “Great Lakes”-(Lake Erie excepted because it’s a shit piece of water) They’re gotdamn massive. It’s like “Great” referred to their size and not how wonderful they are.
/also, I’ve swam on(?) five different beaches on Superior and they were all ice cold

My doctor: “So your bad cholesterol is way down, but still higher than I’d like (it’s literally right on the high end of normal), so I’d like to try an additional medication. Are you good with that?”
Me: (eating ribs and onion rings). “Sure. Can’t think of anything else that would do it.”

We have so much more advanced medical technology than our great grandparents, but their doctors would recommend a brand of cigarettes and prescribe them opium. Who can say which is better?

In Calgary, there was a nonverbal autistic boy named Parker who went missing on July 16. I’ve been looking for him since before the Amber Alert. I’ve been searching while dealing with both a viral and bacterial infection. The wildfire smoke has also triggered my asthma, and just getting through each day has been hard. Unfortunately, they found his body today.
I searched near where I thought he might have entered the culvert, but I didn’t see that entrance. If I had, I would have searched there or asked someone to check it.
I am beyond devastated. I can’t stop crying in my office cubicle long enough to drive home. Today is not a good day.

Today’s surfing grade was a solid A. Great day out there. 3-5′ waves, 75° water which is the warmest I’ve ever seen in Los Angeles, and I had the whole place to myself and made the most of it.
The very first thing the Dr. Mrs. did when we arrived home was begin vacuuming and oh how desperately I wish I were joking.

I’ve read about an Ethiopian chocolate chip cookie lasagna that is right around the corner from your place. It would be a crime if you didn’t try it before you left.

The best news of the day?
Youngest right is more than halfway home.
They stopped to walk with some of our California giants today.
Gotta see the redwoods and Sequoias.
She’ll be here tomorrow after several years away and she’ll be getting here right after I’ve after I’ve gotten home from watching The Odyssey in IMAX.
Seems fitting.
Welcome home Kiddo!

I was driving around the west side of LAX just listening to music and I look up and there’s a bright fast moving contrail in the sky. That’s a rocket launch! So I pulled over quickly and captured what I could with my iPhone (which I really hate for focusing issues like this). This happened at 8:00PM Pacific this evening.
The rocket is a SpaceX Falcon 9 carrying 24 Starlink satellites. The rocket stages at around the 0:30 mark, and the flashing object you see behind the rocket is the first stage booster falling away, which will then land on the SpaceX recovery ship stationed just off the California coast. That recovery ship is berthed in Los Angeles Harbor if you know where to look for it.

2nd weekends batch of peperonata. Everything (green and yellow peppers, eggplant, tomatoes and olives) but the patatos and onions are fresh from the garden. It’s been a good growing season which is surprising me since it’s been so hot.
