And trying to infiltrate everything, even this here site. But why is that?

Is it because of the sympathies expressed during our World Cup Previews? No.

Now I want to annex Crimea.

Is it because we have pointed out the historical badasses that have wrought havoc on Mother Russia from time to time?

The last thing most Russians never saw.

Or is it because of our political coverage?

DFO was, after all, one of the first sites on the internet to stand against the dual threat of Russian aggression and Christian Ponder.

Or was it our/my “Better Know A Trump Appointee” series? Of the three people covered, two have either resigned or withdrawn their nomination since President Agent Orange took office:

  • Vincent Viola – withdrew from consideration because he didn’t want to provide financial disclosure for congressional scrutiny.
  • Michael Flynn – resigned from advising position to avoid prosecution under the Logan Act
    • which, sadly, has nothing to do with Wolverine.
No one fucks with this special advisor.

We’ll never finish the trifecta, because Linda McMahon was confirmed today by a vote of 81-19, in what Fox News called “a rare display of bipartisanship”.

In any regard, we are likely now on someone’s watch list. Someone tranquilize Fozz! LET THE PARANOIA COMMENCE!

Way worse; once the WG story broke Dick was done for and he new it, the system worked to a certain extent. Dick also had a basic idea of how to govern and how government works in our system. He also had several intelligent people in his administration. As misguided as he was he at least wanted to work at being the president. I hated Nixon with a passion at the time, but I wasn’t near as afraid and depressed for the US and the world as I am now. Then I had some optimism that we would get smarter and improve; that was obviously a fairytale. I think eventually it will cave in on Trump, but the damage may never be repaired. Cheers mate.

I wasn’t alive during Watergate, but I did a fair amount of reading about it (a weird obsession with G Gordon Liddy is to blame for that one), and I used to piss people off with high-minded opinions such as Nixon being the last US President who actually DID follow through on a pretty big-time campaign promise…

Everything Moose said is accurate, with one additional little wrinkle: a portion of the country wasn’t legitimately insane. There were people who believed their government was elected to perform a function and be held accountable when they did it poorly, be it GOP or Democrat. Now, there’s a fair percentage of folks who feel “as long as you’re technically on MY side, it’s OK,” and that shit scares the hell out of me. These people will march us headlong into the apocalypse, taunting anyone who disagrees the whole way with shouts of “you’re just upset because YOUR GIRL LOST!”

You said it much better than “the system worked to a certain extent”. At the time a MUCH larger percentage of elected people and people in general were closer to the center, it seemed to me. People were willing to view something as right or wrong, rather than red or blue.

Don’t get me wrong; the Civil War was the most trying time for the US….so far, but I’m thinking when we reach the tipping point with global warming the world’s shit will hit the fan; maybe none of this will matter.

That one-sided view has always been there, just not to this extent. There were plenty of people who saw Reagan’s win as a win for “their side,” and who were quite willing to overlook the Iran-Contra scandal because, hey, it’s OK, guys, it was Uncle Ronnie!

But the divisiveness has gotten much worse, thanks to FAUX news and a generally uneducated and politically unaware populace that believes whatever the cute blonde on the TV tells them.
