It’s funny that Halloween was last Saturday, because one of my old story topics is making a return appearance to an NFL roster.

That’s right, 41 year-old Josh McCown is getting the phone call he wasn’t waiting for to return to the league. The Texans have apparently signed him to be DeShaun Watson’s backup. He was staying at home but on the Eagles practice squad as an emergency “in-case” option, and earning $12,000 per week for the privilege. But the fact that Houston is apparently two hours drive from his home means he’ll get to earn a nine-week percentage of the league-minimum $1.045 million, while watching the carnage Bill O’Brien left behind plays its way out.

Besides the Eagles, he has also played for the Jets, Browns, Buccaneers, Bears, 49ers, Panthers, Dolphins, Raiders, Lions and Cardinals. The Texans are his 12th NFL team, and he has only played for two above-.500 teams in his entire career.

Colin Kaepernick, meanwhile sits at home wondering why the phone doesn’t ring, but smiling at pictures of Donald Trump breaking down at press conferences.

You can get the attachments for like 50 bucks, then when you get into $200+, you start getting heat and other functions, then $400+ has crazy shit like remotes and enemas and shit. The same companies make full bidet units, but I’m pretty sure they’re more expensive than actual bidets at that point.

The only thing that kept Michigan as close as it was is how many people despite Whitmer for the lockdown, despite every expert saying she was handling it better than almost any governor. Meanwhile, the supreme court killed the state of emergency in mid-October. The surge started immediately. Broke a record with over 6k cases today, with a positive test rate of 10+% for 5 consecutive days. Not fucking great.

Dept of health was able to reinstate a lot of it. Very little of it has been reinstated through the state legislature. Mostly things like letting politicians vote on things remotely because of course. Regardless, half the population acted like that was the end of the restrictions, but the biggest issue imo is the schools. School boards are terrified of getting yelled at, so they’re all holding off on sending the kids back home. Meanwhile, my entire department’s been quarantined after a few positive cases (mine came back negative). Some districts ended up having no choice with half their staff and students being forced into quarantines. It’s very stupid.

Brick expressed his dislike for Moose’s “gif dumps”. That’s his right. A lot of us like them, but that’s our opinion. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Moose didn’t appreciate it. They got into an argument. Moose crossed a line using the word “cunt” in a personal attack on Brick. We intervened because one of the few rules is no personal attacks.

We warned Moose not to do it again. He decided he didn’t want to be a part of DFO anymore. His choice and his right.

People argue and disagree on stuff all the time on this site and there’s nothing wrong with that. We just ask everyone to be civil. Moose wasn’t and there were consequences.

You cannot blame Brick for causing Moose to cross a line. Moose is a grown ass man and could have reacted differently. Everyone is in charge of their own emotions and how they react to situations.

I don’t have time or non-stop free access (workdays are spent on DoD VPN which blocks DFO) to be able to read every comment on every thread on this board, so I do miss quite a bit (such as the drama with Brick and Beast). I tend to skim rapidly through threads whose subject matter holds minimal interest to me, but I certainly won’t bother complaining about them. I’m a relative newby and figure I’m here on sufferance and aside from an occasional drunken outburst try to maintain a non-aggro presence.

But Brick didn’t just express his dislike for Moose’s posting one time. He did it over and over again, in thread after thread.

I’m never quite clear on who’s “in charge” here, so at first I wondered if Brick was a moderator and actually giving “official” advice/warning. When it became apparent that wasn’t the case, then I wondered why it was ok for Brick to act like he was in charge and telling people what to post. If I was Moose, I would have asked “who the fuck do you think you are” a long time ago.

I mean, lots of weird shit gets posted here. Hippo comments on his Football Manager career. I posted about a fake baseball tournament I ran. Brick posted a bunch of photos of his bookshelf. Moose posted gifs. People say shit about politics.

I’m sure lots of people didn’t like, or got bored with, one or more of those things. And occasionally some of us — and I’ve done it in this thread — will comment that maybe someone should knock it off on a particular subject. But repeatedly showing up when someone posts to criticize what they post is kind of jerky behavior in my opinion.

Perhaps it’s jerky but within the rules. But with all due respect to our hard-working admin team, if the rules here allow one poster to continually poke and take shots at another’s contribution, without so much as a warning, but one insult in return is deemed a violation, then the rules are stupid.

And now it occurs to me that I don’t even know if I’m breaking a rule in this comment.

I would like to think that others could resolve differences in that way.

I get that. And I’m not saying anyone needed to be censored. Just a simple, “hey Brick, I think Moose is aware of your feelings on the matter.” Otherwise, you end up like the parent who tells the kids to stop fighting, but then does nothing while one kid does the “I’M NOT TOUCHING YOU” while holding their finger a millimeter away from the other’s face.

I said the rules suck, but I don’t even know if it’s a matter of rules, just a little guidance. Like downthread, Horatio suggested that I should knock it off with further comments about Unsurprised’s posts. And I appreciate that and will honor it. Maybe if something like that had been done earlier, Moose wouldn’t have lashed out and the whole thing could have been defused a little.

The problem with the Moose/Brick thing is that it happened late at night when few people were awake and on the site. Without someone there to cool things down, they got out of hand.

Honestly? I didn’t care for Moose’s gifs when I first started commenting here. Partly it was the volume, but mostly I just didn’t understand them. There were times where I thought he was passive-aggressively mocking me when he replied to one of my comments with a gif.

I eventually got used to it, and they stopped bothering me. But I was actually sympathetic to your original point. But you made your point. Repeatedly. Moose knew your feelings on the matter, and obviously intended to continue posting the way he was. At that point, it seems to me that your options were to complain to the mods and get them to intervene and tell Moose to knock it off, or else shrug and learn to ignore/deal with it.

I’m not sure what you thought you were accomplishing with your repeated remarks to him. Maybe you just couldn’t help yourself, which believe me, I can relate to. But you’ve got to admit it had lost any constructive value, right?

But for what it’s worth, my impression is that you’re not an asshole, you’re just someone who is more comfortable throwing (and receiving) a sharp elbow than the average person. And you either don’t know or sometimes forget that not everybody holds the same standard. So it probably really didn’t seem that way to you.

I’m not going to take sides. I have gotten on Moose’s bad side a few times (for reason valid and trivial), but I’m the type of person to avoid confrontations. Sometimes if I see a topic going south, I either abandon the post or call it a night at DFO.

But you don’t cross the Admin. Everyone knows that.

Maybe the moral of this story is sometimes you need to step away from DFO and cool off before things escalate to the point where feelings are hurt, Admins get involved and the door flies open for the last time.

I don’t think there’s any doubt we’re headed for a recession. We’re probably overdue for one anyway. But taking all your retirement money out of a stocks and putting it into gold, which is already overpriced, is exactly the sort of dumb shit I’d expect a strong Christian who believes everything he’s told to do.

Hopefully he talks to your advisor and, depending on his age, gets out of more volatile investments and gets into more stable ones. But gold and whatever the Franklin Mint is pushing is not the answer.

I think it’s got to be “horses for courses.” You’re going to have to run more Joe Manchins and Conor Lambs in the redder areas. And the centrist Dems and the progressives need to try harder to shut up about each other.

I never see purple district GOP candidates having to explain Louie Gohmert or Devin Nunes or other asshole GOPers, with rare exceptions like when Steve King did something exceptionally racist. But Dems on both wings of the party just can’t seem to resist taking the bait and bashing the other.

GOP senators just spent four years pretending they had no idea what the fucking president said the day before. Why does every Dem have to answer for whatever AOC or whoever just said? Learn from the GOP.
