Day Drinking ‘Cause it’s Too Damn Hot Open Thread

I walked several kilometres (it’s a unit of measurement) earlier, did some damn laundry, some damn crossword puzzle and now I’m out of ideas. I know you guys are psyched for my Canuck-centric observations on the Pan-Am Games so here goes…

We got our highest medal total of all time! It was probably a quarter of what the U.S. racked up ( I don’t math outside work) but progress is progress.

We won the silver in basketball by being totally out-classed by the Brazilian squad. However! The semi-final game we won in OT vs. the damn Americans [shakes fist] behind Jamal Murray’s (“class” of Kentucky 2016) 22 points in the 4th and beyond. I’ve long felt that Canada should be far more successful at the international level given our proximity to You Know Who. There has been a shit ton of talent coming out of the Toronto area and British Columbia the last 15 years or so. If just a fraction of these guys played for the national team once in a blue moon we could compete against anyone-not a “Dream Team” but you know. Actually, I’m sure we could spank the 2004 version. What the hell happened there? Anyway, the thing that sticks in my gullet is that this victory came under Steve Nash’s general manager-ship. Steve Nash is the guy that turned down nearly every single invitation to represent his country when given the chance. Fuck him. I’m sure the program would be at least a half dozen years ahead of where it is now if he’d bothered to show.

It looks like we’ve got ourselves a world class sprinter on our hands! Andre De Grasse (Andre “from” Grasse to you non-French speakers) won the 100, 200, and should have had a gold in the relay but a team mate stepped on a line and was disqualified. He’s but 20 years old and is nowhere near filling out his physique. The way I see it, he’ll be able to compete in the next three Olympic games. He’s got a wind-aided 9.75 under his belt. He reeks of potential. You read it here first boys and girls.
