National Semifinal #1 – Alabama vs. Washington (3:00, ESPN)
Definitely the fixture of the day, so of course NC State’s basketball opener happens right in the middle of it. Lots of chuckles about Nick Saban and “coachspeak” regarding his statements re the Huskies being the best side his team have faced, and a stern/unique test…but I think it’s true. UW is very, very fast, and can hit you in many different ways. They won’t let Roll Damn Tide dictate the terms of play, and that’s 90% of the battle. I am interested.

Just thunder fuck both of these asshole programs/coaches right in the ass, please. I know I will be cheering for whoever wins match #1 to win it all, that’s for sure. On JSD Movie Night Selection we have “Boiling Point”…and I am not talking about that god awful Wesley Snipes movie.
It is the second written and directed film of celebrated Renaissance man “Beat” Takeshi Kitano.
Made in 1990, the film is about a dimwitted (like bordering on severely retarded) loser on a shitty amateur baseball team. Their coach has the shit beat out of him by the Yakuza (due to the main character fucking up) so he goes to Okinawa to purchase guns in a foolish attempt to get revenge. Upon his arrival, he charms the local psychotic member of the Okinawa yakuza (Kitano) who follows him back.
Its like your typical odd ball buddy film with horrific amounts of violence.
Actually now that I posed this, I realized I kind of fucked up describing the plot. The general idea is there. Its an interesting film because a lot of the “humor” is very black and very Japanese. I reminds me of the sort of dark humor in Scandinavian films.
What I love about Kitano (by the why, he is the guy from MXC…the main Japanese dude) film work is that the pacing is much slower than typical Japanese cinema of the genre. It always has a nice build up. The violence is extreme, but its not goofy if that makes sense.
