Nice that my Vikings get to go to the dance this year but every one of their games from here out will be roadies including this coming Sunday with a trip to the Superdome against the Saints. Such is life when your idiot fucking quarterback can’t win a big game.
At least there have been a couple of incredible games when those two teams get together.

Finally a quick note about the banner image up there of old Santa playing tennis. There was an idea batted around prior to the holidays where a group of our authors would discuss their favorite ornaments and give a little background on them but that post never quite reached the light of day.
This ornament was given to me in the late 60’s or early 70’s I’m gonna say. I’m the youngest of 4 sons that my incredibly dumb in retrospect parents decided to raise. All four of us received a different Santa playing a different sport for Christmas one year. Eldest brother had a bowling Santa, big bowlers the right family are/were, second eldest brother had a Santa with a football, and DJ Taj had a Santa catching a baseball. All three of those sports were big in our family and the brothers played organized ball for all of them.
One thing we didn’t do very much of?
Play fucking tennis!
Why did I get a tennis playing Santa?
Because I’m the goddamn youngest and was frequently the recipient of the “something else” brand of presents.
Anyway, I’ve managed to hold onto this little fucker for close to 50 years and if I remember I bring him out for Christmas. We don’t do the tree thing anymore since all of our kids are grown but TAJ is a fucking maniac with Christmas lights each year. Over 4,000 this year.
Yes four fucking thousand lights.
And we’ll have the random decoration or 2 scattered about.

When I finish wiring up the multi-shot batteries (the sticking point is having to first solder and weatherproof some arduino nanos, which act as the timed delay for some of the shit) I’ll start on the bread and Russian salad…
Thank God wifey’s helping by staying away from the kitchen (and volunteering to go on quick booze run to … forgot where, lol. One of the Baltic states for sure, but not Poland and not Russia (in case you didn’t know – in Sweden only the State can sell you booze… and at a markup to make anyone blush, so depending on the volumes involved, it’s literally cheaper and easier to hop on a ferry and then come right back) XD

In the regular ruin of life that Disney continues to do, Cloak & Dagger was cancelled at some point a couple months back. My daughter and I are quite disappointed.
Because of this stuff, she is starting to hit the crappy stuff. That’s right. Steven Universe Future. It’s so bad. I can’t stand watching it. I mean, she was fine with regular Steven Universe. Who in the blue hell thought this show was a good idea?

Couldn’t even tell you what my fave Xmas tree ornament is. My family’s always been big on a very eclectic mix of stuff; my mom makes personal, individualized ones for my dad, my sister, and me. She also makes handmade ones every year for close friends and extended family that are different every time. Not only that, but we all tend to pick up ornaments as souvenirs from all the places we’ve traveled to. Off the top of my head, I can think of the following things that are hanging on my parents’ tree:
– a pair of plaster hand moulds of my sister and I, each from when were about 2 years old
– a clay serpent wearing a crown, showing a character from a fantasy novel that I wrote a dust jacket quote for when I was about 9 years old
– a plastic rhino from the time my sister hand-fed lettuce to the herd living at the Toronto zoo (age 3, maybe?)
– a miniature bottle rocket from the summer where my dad and I got seriously into building and launching them at the lake (complete with custom launcher built from scrap wood, PVC piping, a one-way valve, and a bicycle pump)
There’s hundreds. We can’t even fit them all on the tree anymore. My mom has an itemized spreadsheet for everyone, including year of purchase/creation, and the occasion it’s for. She’s only eeeeeever so slightly type A.

My fave ornament is a dunking Santa Claus. I was 11. I was obsessed with basketball. I loved it. My manipulative, gaslighting mother has it. I don’t give a rat’s ass about it now.
