Your “It’s a long way until your next Monday Night Football Game” open thread

Good evening all. Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday interlude.

Sorry about the title of this post but this is the first Monday since September 9th without an NFL Monday night football game and basically that’s fucked up. Just think! In a little over 9 short months we’ll have our next one!

Shit.

First congrats to this years playoff participants including last minute entrants Tennessee and Philly

Nice that my Vikings get to go to the dance this year but every one of their games from here out will be roadies including this coming Sunday with a trip to the Superdome against the Saints. Such is life when your idiot fucking quarterback can’t win a big game.

At least there have been a couple of incredible games when those two teams get together.

God, that shit never gets old.

Finally a quick note about the banner image up there of old Santa playing tennis. There was an idea batted around prior to the holidays where a group of our authors would discuss their favorite ornaments and give a little background on them but that post never quite reached the light of day.

This ornament was given to me in the late 60’s or early 70’s I’m gonna say. I’m the youngest of 4 sons that my incredibly dumb in retrospect parents decided to raise. All four of us received a different Santa playing a different sport for Christmas one year. Eldest brother had a bowling Santa, big bowlers the right family are/were, second eldest brother had a Santa with a football, and DJ Taj had a Santa catching a baseball. All three of those sports were big in our family and the brothers played organized ball for all of them.

One thing we didn’t do very much of?

Play fucking tennis!

Why did I get a tennis playing Santa?

Because I’m the goddamn youngest and was frequently the recipient of the “something else” brand of presents.

Anyway, I’ve managed to hold onto this little fucker for close to 50 years and if I remember I bring him out for Christmas. We don’t do the tree thing anymore since all of our kids are grown but TAJ is a fucking maniac with Christmas lights each year. Over 4,000 this year.

Yes four fucking thousand lights.

And we’ll have the random decoration or 2 scattered about.
