Okay, it’s been hotter than hell this weekend. A mini heat wave drove the humidex temperature up to 36 degrees Celsius – that’s 95 degrees for you Burmese & American readers out there. This town’s not built for that. I mean, it was pretty & all,
but there’s no point to it if you don’t want to go outside.
I called my mom because it’s expected to be 118 in Palm Springs, and they are doing brownouts just to add to the fun. Also, she says she can smell the fire from Riverside County, which means her asthma will likely kick up. Luckily, she’s used to it from having been down there for so long. They get notice when a brownout will happen, so she’s going to go shopping at Costco because they are on a different grid. You know the type – older, pushing a cart with like three items in it, drinking a pop or smoothie, just looking around. BeerBrother hooked her up with a $1000 gift card that she insists on spending only $50 at a time, so she can get whatever she wants. “But I like just looking at things…” is always the story.
But at least she’s not hoarding. I remember that was my great fear when I went to visit her at Christmas, back when there was an open border & direct flights to America. Seeing that she had no clutter and a circle of friends made me feel better.
She won’t go to the Wal-mart in Palm Desert, however. “The employees keep getting COVID and bringing it to the store.”

I do hope your day was not as humid or hot, but your beer was just as cold as mine.
Here’s my shadow on the pond at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Those geese are some nasty fuckers.
Since you’ve lived in both places, what are your thoughts on California Geese versus Canadian Geese? I’ve heard Canadian Geese are nasty passive aggressive fucks.
Geese are nasty wherever they go. The will fight you.
Balls, I’ve spent time all over Canada. I’ve got Newfie roots but the Frenchies are the best because they love Americans and hate the English.
Nothing a punt gun can’t fix.
One bad thing about living in an elite gated neighborhood on the West Coast is that every one else is asleep yet I’m wide awake.
“We hope Matt Cooke is OK”
No. No we absolutely do not.

I like this one better than the one I posted the other day; it has people in front of it!!
Realized after copying the URL to the Cooke-Kane “fight” that it matched your link and instead refreshed and laughed at Cooke eating shit
I still remember this fight. An dumb-as-a-box-of-hammers Shane Churla, playing with a broken orbital bone, decides to fight a clearly reluctant Grimson, and get his face smashed in.

Rooting for the Canucks to win the Cup this year, as they’ve never won it and now that the Whalers are out, (not that rooting for them in the play-offs was a frequent occurrence), I go for the teams that haven’t won for the longer period of time.
If Vancouver falls I think I switch over to Philly.
Since I don’t have a favoUrite hockey team anymore, (other than whoever’s playing Carolina), when the play-offs come I root for whatever team has either never won the Cup or has gone the longest without winning the Cup, and then change as those teams drop off, just to maintain interest.
I wound up rooting for Boston the year they won* and haven’t felt clean since.
*I should have been rooting for Vancouver, but they were so goddamn dirty that series I couldn’t.
If Oskar Lindblom ends up playing, I will treat anyone not rooting for the Flyers as an enemy of humanity. Basically, nothing will change about my behavior.
Oh, terrific. Yinzburgh is trying to be the new Portland.
My wife and I just watched ‘Ad Astra’ with Brad Pitt. Just over two hours, some nice space special effects, and if you asked me what the point of it was I would be at a total loss.
Some members of the household tell me that it doesn’t matter what the point is, because Brad Pitt is pretty to look at, so there’s that.
It was a reason to have cool space set pieces. And that’s about it.
But space monkeys too.
Oh hey. Tie Domi’s kid is a piece of shit just like his old man
It is good when the person parental lesson get passed down. The the passing of the family business into competent hands, the dream a bright future.
One of my fondest memories is Stu “The Grim Reaper” Grimson leaning over to a fallen Tie Domi, grabbing his face with one hand, and then banging his head into the boards.
Needless to say, a pretty good fight followed.
Found it! Fight wasn’t as good as I remembered it.

Carey Price might lose this series with over .950 SV%
The metric system is awesome in Third World and Axis Powers countries, but it will never get a man to the moon and back before the end of the decade.
I should probably stop using devices that create a lot of heat in the middle of a heat wave. And sitting in the 95 degree room probably isn’t great for my health either.

One of the great tragedies in turn of the century entertainment was the death of Nancy Marchand after season 2 of The Sopranos. She was fucking amazing as Livia.
It’s so sad that her son Brad turned out to be such a gotdamn travesty. smh…
Also the death of actor Christopher Evan Welch after the first season of Silicon Valley. He played the venture capitalist Peter Gregory like crazy Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys.
Let’s not forget the death of Col. Henry Blake. Tragic episode, that was.
It’s so hot that I literally have to drink my beer within ten minutes or it will get warm.

Ten minutes?!?!? Are trying to reenact breast feeding?
Imagine what that little prick would’ve been up to in this political environment.
Lee Atwater was Don Segretti’s love child.
California got a fire tornado? Why is 2020 turning babyface? God, this booking makes no sense!
Typical over the top social media bullshit. Fire Tornado is a bonus, not a feature. Get your shit together, kids.
It’s like forest fire…. fireworks.

Ha ha, it’s funny because… well, actually, the Habs have Hall of Famers whose numbers we haven’t retired, unlike some franchises that retire every guy who stuck around for more than four years.
John Mitchell is the real bad guy.
Basically the male version of Joni Mitchell.
Best cover of a Joni Mitchell tune? I give you Nazareth

Cosigned.
Crawford standing on his head for the Blackhawks. 35 saves to Lehner’s 13. 2-1 lead.
Fuck hULu but I got the Knights game on.
I enjoy naps way too much during the weekend.
Why doesn’t my garage have a view like that one off in the distance?
I enjoyed a nap like that yesterday. Without the tits.
Btw, the Grand Tour Madagascar Special will be released September 4!
Yay! OK, now I’ve got a reason to stay alive at least till then! I’d heard it was gonna be Xmas. Don’t know if I could survive that!
Shut. Down. EVERYTHING!
I’ve gotten nothing out of this virus. No PPP free money. No govt check. No UI. No Kodak style handouts. I did pay my taxes on the delayed due date.
And that’s okay; really. I’m not one to bitch that I don’t get a welfare check every month because I’m too cursed to be gainfully employed. I mean, I pay WAY too much in taxes to see it squandered away on handouts to the rich and settlements for cops arbitrarily using force on black men but that’s not my point. If someone wanted to do something for me during all this bullshit, MAKE LIVE SPORTS AVAILABLE ON TV. I don’t know why I can’t get NHL. I don’t care why I can’t get NHL. There’s nothing else on and I’m over streaming #content.
But what the fuck would Martha McSally ever do for America?
Um, put NBC on in 5 minutes…
Knights are on like NBCSVU
May I interest you in soccer? There’s lots of that!
Sure can’t!
Political Controversies are being scheduled now?
She served her country in the Air Force? After that, I got nothing.
Air Force Amy?
Bullshit. I did more as an E3 than that C-word did her entire career.
And then she sat in the Senate and said she was sexually assaulted by a superior officer and refuses to name names. Almost as if she’s fabricating the whole thing bc she is getting slaughtered in her race though I wouldn’t put it passed her to just give a, “he’s a good guy to know and might be a Useful ally someday so I’ll protect this rapist in the Air Force.”
Okay, noted for future reference. Being a relative of veterans (including one whose name is sadly on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial) I consider all veterans who weren’t dishonorably discharged as worthy of respect until proven otherwise.
That mewling quim can go to Hell and thank you for your service.

Looks like Big Ben’s reign as “QB Most Likely to Explode on the Field” just ended.
Wonder what the line is on that
I don’t know if the TV is deceiving me, but Edmonton looks beautiful.
Ben Bradlee’s kung-fu skills are going to come in handy during the trial.
Sexual Intercourse Enthusiast is a great euphemism.
For what, exactly?
Sex Ed Teacher, I reckon.
On the Grand Tour they were using it to describe Stormy Daniels.
Fucker.
Why you gotta call me that?
I’m trying to boost your self esteem!
Zombie Kenneth Dalhberg? I did not see that coming!
you guys see it?
Yes. It’s … something.
Sleepy Joe?
Sloppy Joe with actual Joe. That’s kinda creepy.
Looks more like Anthony Hopkins than Biden, to me anyway.
Someone put the face of Steve Bannon in there
His is pizza. And booze. And evil.
How do you like your Helper, Clark?

Classic M.A. Fluery playoff meltdown incoming!?
Oh he’s not even in goal.

I didn’t expect this to happen until the third act but G. Gordon Liddy has been swallowed by a sea monster.
I was aiming my time traveling sea monster at Karl Rove, but I’ll take it.
The old Smith Corona “FingerBlaster 500” typewriter figures prominently in “Some of The President’s Men”.
HBO has a pretty excellent mini-series on demand – “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark” – about Michelle McNamara’s (Patton Oswalt’s wife) quest to track down a serial rapist/murderer.
Gonna binge that soon.
This 2020 MLB Season has become an unexpected homage to the Pause Glitch from Mega Man 1.

It seems that’s a common problem with Walmarts and Targets and such, no sick leave I think. I’ve heard the same thing about some of the ones in the Bay Area.
We had thunderstorms today to go along with the heat wave, which was kind of bizarre, I think this was my first proper thunderstorm since I moved to CA 3 years ago. It felt more like Chicago or the East Coast in terms of weather, although the humidity was still only about 65% so not actually that bad.
Who could have expected not offering sick leave would be bad?
That’s definitely the whole essential worker, mass transit, got to feed my family mentality. Highest risk group.
