Considering the amount of petroleum-based fertilizer that goes into growing corn in the US I’m surprised they were against that option!
I mean it’s more nuanced than I’m making out here, but none of us were the least bit surprised when it came out shortly after that MTBE was contaminating groundwater. It was like energy deregulation, you just knew it was crooked as fuck and would end badly in very short order.
Yeah, and the corn thing is all over the place. Depending on things like the amount of tillage and frequency of nitrogen applications alone ethanol varies from 30% lower emissions than standard gasoline to 30% higher emissions. And that’s not even getting into stuff like pesticides and water usage. Kinda fascinating to hear about the crooked oil lobby going against the crooked farm lobby

I had one of those Ivory Tower dreams last night, where you’re back in college and having to take an exam in a class you’ve never gone to or studied for. In this case it was a math class, which fits, since I am terrible at math.
In the dream I was trying to copy answers off the person in front of me, (look, in the dream I hadn’t taken Ethics in law school, OK?), but because it was a dream the answers were just out of sight.
Then, somehow, my dream self said ‘wait, I already have a college degree, I don’t need this shit’ signed his exam and walked out of the room.
It may not be the best dream I’ve ever had, but it’s Top 5 with a bullet.
