A Farewell To (the) Broom – Thread of HonoUr

The uncomfortable wait is over – Kevin the Broom has announced that he will depart City of Men.  Turns out, even he can’t overcome a major hamstring injury in his mid-30s.  From a big picture standpoint, example 1,000,000 of what happens when squad age tips over the continental shelf.  Much, much better (financially and competitively) to move on a season early than to wait a season too late.  But shit, football peoples is just as sentimental and wishful-thinky as regular assholes be.

Father Time comes for us all.

On the pitch, you get a meaningless Gooners at Toffees (7:30, USA), and some other assorted fecal matter.  Still beats the real world, but that’s a low bar to clear innit?

Later this evening, Final Four.  Duke is too good fot me to watch any of it, though.  Auburn/Houston was my predicted final in DFO pool, so I will hope for that anyway,

Now that’s just a good clean decapitation, LET EM PLAY

Doktor Zymm

I got to explain to someone about fried cheese curds today. Poor, deprived soul

scotchnaut

/watching old Jeremy Lin highlights
//sees a sign in the crowd, “The Yellow Mamba”

Me: “Welp, that’s enough for now.”

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Really uncool to describe him as a coward, that’s not even close to true.

scotchnaut

Bruce Pearl slaps the roof of a used car in his spare time because he just can’t help himself.

Gatoraids

Righteous Gemstones is going out on a high note so far especially if you are a fan of Walton Goggins Dick

Mr. Ayo

Which of these SEC powerhouses is going to lose to Duke?

I’m thinking Gators.

Senor Weaselo

I had Florida over I think Duke, but I honestly don’t care at this point as my bracket’s been lukewarm garbage since Day 1.

Mr. Ayo

Well my thinking is aging like a fine unpasteurized milk left out in the sun.

War Damn Eagle! it is!

yeah right

It’s cool. Cubbies won 7-1.

Six in a row!

Doktor Zymm

Just ordered some delicious not even close to authentic Chinese food. Hooray fried!

Horatio Cornblower

General Tso’s Big Mac???

Mr. Ayo

Brilliant!

scotchnaut

I’d just like to put it out there-and anyone can correct me. There is no such thing as “bad” Hot and Sour soup.

/I’ve ordered it from at least 40 different restaurants over the years and have never been disappointed.

//is there any other food item that stands up like this? Talk to me.

yeah right

I’ve never had a bad eggroll.

scotchnaut

-Warren Zevon’s B-side to ‘Werewolves of London’

Gumbygirl

There was a place in Birmingham called the Dragon that had perfect Hot and Sour soup. I was a sad, sad Gumbygirl when they closed.

yeah right

Homemade hotdish up in this bitch!

yeah right

Mr. Ayo

Oh shit. Gimme!

yeah right

It’s fucking killer.

scotchnaut

I’ve floated this dish out as an Xmas/Easter brekkie thing and received horrified responses. Are you kidding me?

/I’m going for it this Easter

yeah right

DO IT!

Doktor Zymm

It’s just a sort of casserole, just make it and don’t introduce it until people have had some

Doktor Zymm

I do wonder what creative genius came up with the name ‘hotdish’ though. Are you having glassofwine with it? Or maybe some greensalad?

yeah right

It’s a Minnesota thing.

We love our hotdish.

Gumbygirl

I don’t know what made me think of this song, but I’m glad I thunk it!

I would have said Jimmy Carter, but now, now we are fucked.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

I mean it *is* creepy.org that was asking. Which I assume is some sort of JD Vance side project.

Senor Weaselo

Weird Al.

2Pack

Well it’s Rush… and Jethro Tull… Not Judas Priest…
I just did a Cure – Cult thing here. This should be interesting.

BugEyedBoo

Jethro Tull did win the first Hard Rock Grammy, IIRC.

2Pack

When I saw thier playbill there were 4 guys on it. Said to myself I hope one of them is just singing. But no. They have added a rhythm guitar. FFS. Too much guys. Usual for an Italian band to screw this up. Normally they try to play it straight up.

litre_cola

Time to head to the pub. Up the Cavs, fuck the Forge.

About as Napoli as you can get… only thing missing is some Dude with a prochutto crudo leg strapped to the back of a Vespa.

/wifey wants to do a long hiking vacation which I am good with-however…

Me: “We can’t do this until both Ruby and Molly pass away.”

Her: “But we should do this while we’re both capable.”

Me: “Agreed. However, we’re going to be imposing our pets on someone. That isn’t fair to them.”

Her: “We took care of SIL’s dogs when they went on vacation.”

Me: “WITHOUT MY SAYSO!”

Her: …………………

Caveat: Wifey thinks that all kennels maltreat all dogs all the time (a very slight exaggeration)

Horatio Cornblower

We make our kids watch the pets all the time if we’re going away.

Those 22 years of full-on financial support has to be paid back some way.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

We always hire housesitters (or engage the neighbors’ kid and pay them a nominal amount), but it’s only for one cat and one small dog, so it’s not a huge ordeal.

Jimbo

Younger step kid moved out 7 years ago, it’s been a pain to have someone watch our dogs. Last time they had the runs for days after we came back.

scotchnaut

To me it’s not right to impose on someone to take care of our dogs. It means checking in at least twice a day to let them out and Molly has had no training whatsoever so she will wander around for forever.*

*wifey not bothering to guide Molly and her behavior is an on-going source of conflict, but whatever

2Pack

I’ve seen people on the trails with dogs, packing thier own food and water. I take it your pets are not that kind?

scotchnaut

I’m a dumbass that wants to do a multi-day hiking adventure vacation with my wife that doesn’t involve pets in any way whatsoever.

2Pack

No… That’s understandable Buddy…

Horatio Cornblower

Camping overnight with pets, in my experience, is a fucking nightmare.

Doktor Zymm

You should do the Guyana hiking trip I did! Unless you hate amazing waterfalls of course

Horatio Cornblower

What’s the hobo situation in Guyana?

/speaking of rabbit holes

I just watched an Al Stewart interview and he cheekily said that when he was a young recording artist he decided he would be the pre-eminent history-focused folk artist and would corner that market. And he did it!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qob1Hq57ymg&ab_channel=CostaRicaRetroYMas.

litre_cola

They played this on the oldies station at the pool when visiting my folks. Didja know he is related to Rod Stewart?

scotchnaut

The guy is the dumbest cliche writ real-he forged forward, doing what he wanted to do and didn’t really care about success. There was no logic involved whatsoever regarding how his weird 6+ minute tune stuck on AM radio.

BugEyedBoo

Because Year of the Cat is a pretty nice tune.

scotchnaut

It is a perfectly crafted tune but/and there’s nothing you can compare it to with respect to songs that were ‘successful’ on AM radio at the time.

BugEyedBoo

Back then AM radio was nuts. On the same station you’d get:

Jungle Boogie – Kool and the Gang
Amos Moses – Jerry Reed
The Night Chicago Died – Paper Lace
We’re An American Band – Grand Funk Railroad

Gumbygirl

This is one of my favorites from him. Beautifully produced ( Alan Parsons) and I love Spanish guitar.

Just picked up 3 dead baby bunnies from my yard, not a good start to this Saturday.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Oof.

Horatio Cornblower

Nature, like children, is often nasty, brutish, and short.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

No you’re thinking of Kyler Murray.

BugEyedBoo

Sex with Kyler Murry.

BugEyedBoo

Red in tooth and claw.

Gumbygirl

When I was about 7 or 8, a bunch of kids from my neighborhood found a bunny nest. We were all watching them, ooh-ing and aah-ing, when fucking Greg Podlucky came up with his stupid schnauzer, Sargeant Schulz. He ( the dog) ripped them to pieces in front of our horrified eyes. Greg ended up in prison for financial shenanigans to the tune of around 800 million. He’s actually a case study taught in some business schools. After a long stretch in the pokey, he found Gawd, and now he and his also ex-con wife Karla are running some grifty ministry in Colorado.

Jimbo

Kids are dicks.

litre_cola

10 am and I want to start drinking. le sigh

Mr. Ayo

Atta boy! Get to it then.

litre_cola

You see, with the Mrs gone, I have this thing called Deci who I have to mind. We will be going to the pub in 3 hours and that is a BIG window where I could get pretty twisted. Am taking the train down though, so hmmmmm.

I mean there is morning style wine right here…..

litre_cola

Settled on Bailey’s with my coffee

Jimbo

Guy on Sprotscenter just said Travis Hunter has “elite hands”. lol

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

When you said “hunter” and “elite hands” I thought you were talking about how local housewives describe this fellow:

Tim Dwight with the TD! (doesn’t google) I think he was a track star and was a precursor to the Edelmann, Amendola, Welker quick and fast types that Hoodie made good use of later.

/total credit to Belichick-the league was going bigger at every position and he recognized that speed was going to be the difference.

//Ha! Tim Dwight ended up on the Pats roster (I had no idea)

yeah right

I’m about 5 in on season 2.

Don’t get the return of Stiffler’s mom from season 1. She’s a horrible actress playing a horrible role that was horribly written for her.

I’m enjoying the show though.

Scenery is fantastic.

yeah right

It sure is pretty.

scotchnaut

/watching a 2002 Chiefs/Chargers tilt because…who knows why

Random Player Alert:

Dante Hall
Curtis Conway
Quentin Jammer
Carlos Polk
Steve Christie
Scott Fujita
Willie Roaf

/that is all

scotchnaut

Yeah, this seems like a “Comeback” game but it might just be a back-and-forth tilt. I’ve not a clue.

scotchnaut

I just reminded myself that my favourite fat running back ever was Natrone Means. He was listed at 5’10”, 245! Pfft! He had to be 260 at one point and I love him because he let himself go and still had a viable career. #goals

I went to the prom with a girl that had that as her yearbook quote!

Doktor Zymm

I really need to be better about getting sleep, but instead I keep scheduling redeyes for myself and then waking up early to go horseback ride or gym. At least we finally have a nice weekend while I’m here in CA! Once I get back from the barn I can hammock nap

2Pack

Run – done 8k
Garden Center – visited 3 plants purchased
Butcher shop – visited 80 euros of high quality meats in the freezer
Eco Center – car load of recycle / proper disposal completed
Lawn – mowed
Weeding – mostly done (it’s never totally done)
Now I am chillin until tonight’s dive bar visit to hear a couple local cover bands (Rush and Judas Priest).

2Pack: he does more by 9 a.m. PST than Rikki has planned* to do all day.

*and will not even complete

2Pack

The time zone thing helps.

Horatio Cornblower

I never understood the appeal of that US Army ad: “We do more before 9:00 am than most people do all day”

Me: “Yeah, have fun with that”
/rolls back over until the Sun is nice and warm, at like 11:00 am.

2Pack

As a kid I had a morning paper route getting up at 0400 to do that before school. So the basic training 0530 wake up was sleeping in for me… and the country farm boys.

Don T

Heh, what a coincidence. I just started weeding before going to lunch with Madre.

scotchnaut

2Pack is an Excel spreadsheet of tasks and not a real person-prove me wrong.

2Pack

Sometimes I just get on a roll. Plus the past few weekends have been rain impacted. Today was spectacular.

Horatio Cornblower

I’ve been to the dump (oh, excuse me, fancy-ass Town council-types “transfer station), done my 42 minutes on the elliptical, brought in firewood, started laundry, emptied the dishwasher and looked up a plant that I really liked when were in the Montreal Botanical Gardens last summer (Red Turtlehead Plant), thinking to get a couple this weekend.

Turns out they prefer wooded, partially shaded, and boggy areas. Our yard is pretty much full sun and nary a bog in sight, so there’s a dream dead.

I was also planning to go into Hartford for final measurements on a suit, but when I called the store owner he hung up on me twice, (he’s 80+ and I don’t think he knows how the phone works), then it went straight to voicemail, so I guess we’re doing that next weekend,l because it’s way too shitty, (cold and rainy), to drive down to Hartford and hope he’s not busy.

So now it’s hot chocolate, video games, and ‘Severance’ for the rest of the day for me.

/sniffs pits

And perhaps a shower is in order.

A notable day Sir.

blaxabbath

I have to admit, I hear about these EPL threads but I don’t actually understand anything about them or really how they work.

Which is the primary reason I don’t cheer for them to arbitrarily be applied to every single product being imported to the country.

I’ve learned (through internet research) that Newcastle has the hottest chicks.

I rarely see Newcastle anymore, but it was a go to for years.

It can shore smack you down

Wife heads home due to unexpected death in fam. Work gave me the week off. Have to stay here due to Deci and skool.

“Deci, what do you want to do today?”
“Can we go to the pub and watch futbol?”

If we must.

Doktor Zymm

You’ve taught him well

Jimbo

Good doggie.

scotchnaut

Came across a stat whereby Broom had created 300(!) more chances to score over his career than the next player in the Premier League. Bananas if true.

/here’s hoping he doesn’t take (even more) Saudi money

litre_cola

I heard San Diego FC

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

If he makes sure to smother himself with SDSU coeds at all times he should be just fine.

scotchnaut

Really hope he goes MLS-will make my pilgrimage to see him play that much easier.

/believe it or not, Wifey doesn’t even remotely understand. SMGDH!

Doktor Zymm

Do we have to pay tariffs on imported footballers as well?

I hate him the most out of any pundit in any sport. More than Collinsworth.

Game Time Decision

Is the hate of sports commentators the same kinda energy as the kids screams from Monsters Inc?
Feels like it to me

Horatio Cornblower

Just got up and out of bed, made some waffles and am now catching up on the highlights of Arsenal team that has clearly, and probably correctly, decided to focus whatever they have left on the Champions League.

Horatio Cornblower

“replays” is probably more accurate.

litre_cola

Sir Hippo. The Maple League starts today up here too! DFO’s own Cavalry FC plays arch rival Forge FC. I believe on ESPN2 and TSN up here!

I for one didn’t know SI was still a thing but here we are.
