Monday Morning Mock Drafts: Black Widows!

Guten Tag drones!

I went into my notes for this week’s topic and found that, at some point during the off-season, I had scribbled down ‘Femme Fatales’ as a possible topic, and then of course made no other notes.  So I’m pretty sure I thought of it, but also apparently didn’t put enough thought into it to actually put a name down as well.

Good job, Horatio Who Wasn’t Concerned About The Straight of Hormuz!

Anyway, Dictionary.com defines ‘femme fatale’ as “an attractive and seductive woman, especially one who is likely to cause distress or disaster to a man who becomes involved with her.”

In other words, your Mom.

So there’s your rules for this draft:  if she fits the above definition, in your opinion, you can draft her.  Just don’t draft your Mom, because that would be weird.

You cannot draft men, not because I’m sexist, but because there’s nothing particularly unusual about at attractive man becoming a disaster to a woman who becomes involved with him.  Or even an unattractive man, for that matter.

Honestly, how this species persists is a mystery.

Anyhoo, back to the draft.

An actress who has played multiple femme fatale rules is eligible for each role.  It is the character, not the actress, who counts as the pick.

I did a little research to jog my memory and I found who I was undoubtedly thinking of when I came up with the topic.

Linda Fiorentino as Bridget Gregory.  Steals a bunch of money from her husband, then ties poor Mike in knots before…well, watch the movie.  It’s pretty good.

The rest of you are on the clock!

There’s a pretty obvious #1 pick here.  I didn’t take her out of deference to Bridget Gregory.  I’ll be curious to see how fast one of the rest of you get her.  And also just how many Bond girls Balls takes, other than “all of them”

Dammit! That was my pick!

The fight against relegation is truly between only 2 clubs, Spurs and West Ham. Forest and Leeds are both admirably tough as fucking nails and deserve to stay up.

yeah right

Jessica Alba as Nancy Callahan in Sin City.

comment image

Brocky

I know Horatio posted the rules, but Nancy has got to be one of the most benign characters to be selected today

yeah right

She did end up being the cause of Bruce Willis’ characters death so…

Brocky

You’re not wrong, but I guess the point I’m trying to make is that the original definition is flawed, a Femme fatale should have an element of malicious intention.

At least that’s how I’ve always interpreted it.

Doktor Zymm

I think ideally that would be true, but since western civilization has spent the last few thousand years having this stupid idea that all women are evil temptresses merely by existing we’ve ended up with the broader definition since by nowadays we (mostly) don’t consider being a young and/or attractive female as a malicious intention.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

I agree, and that has been the foundation of the team I’m building.

yeah right

That was actually the whole idea.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Well at least the site doesn’t seem to stay down as long.

I’m loving this topic, it’s so much fun.

Brocky

I always have had a special place in my heart for miss Madsen

For those of you who don’t know, my mother was lucky enough to be friends with her and her family growing up on the south side of Chicago, so my mom went out of her way to get a hardcopy of most of her films

Ironically she never had a vhs of dune or handyman though, arguably Virginia’s best known films

SonOfSpam

(you probably meant Candyman, but I’d watch her in something called “Handy, Man?”)

Autocorrect is a pain

Yeah, the really funny part of the story is that my mom went to see candyman in theaters, not fully understanding what she was getting into.

She said to this date its the only movie shes walked out of, because she couldn’t handle it

Let’s take one of the Ur examples.

I never saw it in theaters, but this film was pretty much my sexual awakening. I had seen r rated movies before, but this was the first film I was aware of that deliberately used sex appeal in film.

As I just recently (like this morning) discovered, the term “vamp” that is used to describe femme fatales originated from vampires, so this pick is absolutely 100% historically correct.

Two solid picks

Redshirt

Anyway, Dictionary.com defines ‘femme fatale’ as “an attractive and seductive woman, especially one who is likely to cause distress or disaster to a man who becomes involved with her.”

Rose DeWitt Dukater, Titanic.

Cheats on her fiancé and commits grand theft upon him. Indirectly results in the near arrest, actual arrest and eventually death of her…male version of a mistress. Gets all expense paid trip to a salvaging operation to gloat about previous instances and then throws away priceless artifact that the salvaging boat and her captain has been looking for.

Rose ruined the lives of three different men of different social classes. If that’s not a black widow, then I don’t know what is.

R-1
Brocky

Lol I was thinking along the same lines, good pull

Rose was for the streets.

Eh, you call it being a bitch, I call it making the best of a shitty situation where her mother was essentially selling her to some rich dickhead

Brocky

This is true. the historical context of the film is vital to understanding the motivations of the characters

Still, she had to throw the gem away? Sell that on the black market, make yourself even more rich

Doktor Zymm

Yeah, I don’t get that bit

Brocky

Horatio, I wish to edit my comment, but the site isn’t letting me.

Rose was for the streets.

Brocky

The part where I dub rose a bitch.

Saying “she’s for the streets”, is more fitting.

Neve Campbell & Denise Richards in Wild Things (1998)

Yeah drafting two is probably against the rules, but I don’t see how you can justify taking one without the other

comment image

Also its been so long since I seen it, I couldn’t tell ya who was better

ballsofsteelandfury

Neve Campbell’s character would be my choice. She was the mastermind behind the whole thing.

Redshirt

I was about to post the same thing. Its one of those twist endings that has deux ex machina flashbacks at the end that welds the ending together, it makes you go “ah, that makes sense”.
