Look at us, we’re mere hours away from the weekend when we can let out our pants and let in some nachos, or other carbohydrates of your liking.
I was thinking about teams/players/schools that ‘lost’ the draft and lo and behold, when I started googling there was all kinds of materials. So some of this is borrowed and some of this is me own thinkings.
Tyler Allgeier:
Perhaps you don’t recall but this fella was a 5th rounder that set the Falcons rookie rushing record and was promptly replaced by Bijan Robinson in the rb pecking order because Atlanta just couldn’t help themselves. He finally gets out from under his rookie contract and is signed by Arizona for 12 mil. But the Cards are a directionless franchise that desperately needed help on the o-line and anywhere on defense so they grabbed running back Jeremiyah Love. Just the dumbest possible move possible for Keim. Their backfield was going to be very capable with Conner and Tyler and now it’s going to be an unnecessary mess.
Virginia:
More concrete evidence that most of ACC football isn’t taken seriously by pretty much anyone. The Cavs were 11-3 overall with but a single loss in conference but no one thinks their program or talent is remotely credible. There’s not a single player from this team that was drafted.
Sillycuse, West Virginia & Wisconsin:
These programs have seen some recent success and Wiscy’s 4-8 record in particular kinda befuddles me but this trio didn’t have a single player hear his name? How the hell do you effectively recruit with this hanging over your head?
Keon Coleman:
Dem Bills coaching brass are saying all the right things through gritted teeth about the 2nd rounder that was a healthy scratch at one point last season but actions speak louder than yakkings when you draft Skyler Bell in the 4th. (a cry of “Go UCONN!” echoes from a distance) Coleman had all of 6 catches in his last 5 games last year, btw. Methinks, energy and effort will be directed towards the new guy.
Jerry Jeudy:
Sometimes teams look very intelligent by letting go/trading a player and Denver fits the bill regarding this (in retrospect) severely overrated player from the wide receiver factory that was Alabama at the time. Look, the odds of both K.C. Concepcion and Denzel Boston both working out is low but the fact that Cleveland leaned so hard into the position means that as soon as the dead money becomes manageable Jeudy is gone.
Y’all have any other draft losers in mind? Please share.
