Saturday Night Off-season Open Thread 2025-2

It is Superb Owl Eve and throughout the DFO clubhouse not a creature is stirring because they’re all taking a nap prior to getting wasted and then sleeping it off until kickoff/halftime.

That applies, of course, to those that celebrate. Many will not be watching for Chiefs-related reasons. I’ll be watching because I promised I would write Hippo’s recap for him. So, in the meantime, what is there to talk about?

Current Events

This week, Southern California got some much needed rain. It was perfect because it didn’t overwhelm and cause major flooding.

Yes, some of the runoff from the burn areas made it to the ocean, but, really, who wouldn’t want to see Blinky in real life?

In other news, last week’s tariffs against Canada and México were paused while the tariffs against China were enforced. At one point, the US Post Office refused to deliver packages from China and then changed course. More of that to come, I’m sure.

Finally, the Trump administration’s investigation on USAID spending revealed some interesting expenditure line items that made everyone pissed for one reason or another.

Sports Update

Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid played the Madrid Derby this morning with the result being a 1-1 tie. In the leadup to the game, Real Madrid had put out a statement complaining about unfair treatment from the referees.

To put this in perspective, that’s like Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes putting out a joint statement saying the refs treat them unfairly and should protect them.

Steelers Update

According to Jay Blazer, the Steelers have no interest in resigning Russell Wilson in light of his personal team’s efforts to put stuff out in the media blaming the Steelers’ late season struggles on the OC, Arthur Smith. Other reporters have corroborated this.

That leaves Justin Fields as your possible starting QB with a possible trade with the Rams in the works to bring in Cooper Kupp to help him. A lot more rumors will undoubtedly come to the surface until the new league year starts in March and actions start taking over words.

In this space, I will tell you what I’m drinking as I type this post. Today’s drink is: cold tea. Meaning it used to be hot but I took too long to drink it and now it’s cold.
