Hello there fellow DFO’er. Hope you’re well today. And thanks for coming back to see last weeks tl;dr of last week as decided by my brain. There’s no reason as to why some comments make it and others don’t.
Seriously.
There isn’t.
on the vacay this week, so instead of writing something, I’m going to follow the DFO tradition and mail this in. Not doing much, some stuff around the house, a day trip or two and some relaxing is the plan for this week.
Without further ado, here are the comments of the week.
This is definitely a reach, but it deserves to be picked higher in this place, if no other…

Just exercising some flabby commenting muscles as I have been in lurk mode recently, but I alway appreciate these GTD summaries of the good stuff you guys send out. The Oregon Trail meme and the BMW meme I shared with my kids (all in their 20s) to pretend I am internet savvy! And I went sailing instead of watching the FIFAnale and it appears I made the correct choice. Now, we can all wake up from our soccer dreams — courtesy of the Onion:

Just back from meeting a friend in New London, CT, who’d come in from out of state for family issues and needed an adult beverage or two. Went to a place called The Dutch Tavern which is absolutely my new favorite dive bar. Got to talking to the bartender who told us the place had recently been sold to a new owner and he’d come out of retirement to bartend there and I replied “I want to retire and start bartending here.”
Pressed tin ceiling, Schaefer taps, (although the beer itself only in cans, because you can’t get kegs anymore), no AC, not enough room to spin a cat, one TV tuned to a fucking Mets game. Let’s fucking go!!

Celebrated the old man’s birthday tonight [July 23]. He would have been 87. Hoisted a few vodkas in his name and got into an argument with my eife. Plus played “The Twist”, cause that fucker could dance like his ass was on fire an dhis head was catching.
Take care, you old bastard. Wherever you are I know you’re smiling and raising just a little bit of hell.

Holy hell what a week [said on a Thursday].
Sharkbait
I said that on Monday.

My work crush has worked part-time with me for the past three years. She’s this absolutely gorgeous, incredibly fit, curly haired 30 year old Iraqi woman. Anyway, I used to feel really bad for her because she would tell me about how she lost her other jobs because of the companies she worked for. But now that we’re in year three, and off the top of my head I can count at least 12 jobs she’s lost that “weren’t her fault,” I’m starting to think that maybe the companies aren’t the problem. . .

Beautiful Friday.
Walk, exercise, massage therapy and I’ve been officially cleared to resume all daily activities.
It’s currently a balmy 75 in Pedro but there’s a breeze and no complaints.
Good week.
Lofty week.
Still not sure I want to fire up the oven for Sunday Gravy but life is all about adapting to your current environment.
Happy Friday peoples!
yeah right
This is the actual fucking “fortune” I got in my fortune cookie today:

Last Thursday, I had the trial for my assault against a minor charge diverted for a year. In the meantime, I do 20 hours community service, 14 anger management sessions, and keep my nose clean and the charge gets knocked down to disorderly conduct with no further punishment. Already half done with the community service; I picked the local animal shelter. It’s no-kill, which is great, and the staff seem genuinely loving towards the animals, which is even better. I scrub their food bowls, water buckets, cat shelves, toys, kongs, litter trays – whatever they send me. Sweep and mop around the kennels trying to talk soothingly to the dog. Line the cat cages with fresh newspaper, blankets, shelves, and toys while letting them chew and paw at my knuckles through the bars. Anger management classes start Monday. There’s a military academy a quarter mile from my door step looking for substitute teachers. Who knows? They seem to handle all discipline amongst themselves, and don’t even have those god damn fucking phones in their possession during school hours. Maybe they’d give a repentant scumbag like me a second chance. Not a huge fan of this band, but I think this is probably what the inside of my head most sounds like these days:

Boy howdy, one thing I stress to my kids is that you shouldn’t judge people on their worst day. Everybody needs a bit of forgiveness. Though I get it, self-forgiveness is a bitch and a half for me, too.

If one were to look up “example of useless 9-1-1” call, what I just took would be cited.

Found a funny:
I’ve built a socioeconomic system that depends on everyone to do useful work and act ethically except the people at the top, who get unimaginable rewards for being antisocial frauds and criminals. And I think it will stand the test of time

Rod Rust is Bogdanski, I think? I got unceremoniously dumped from the Freezer Vodka League by email. RUDE!

They are lovely people. We don’t deserve them

Holy moley! There are 20 Nando’s locations in the Northern Virginia / D.C. / Maryland area. More importantly, there is one distant, isolated franchise waaaay down in Virginia Beach, where we’ll be beaching next week! Methinks I might have to take my prilosec with a Tums chaser, but that’s me. I don’t care, I’m a rebel.

I’ve been waiting for the water to boil for pierogies. Had the wrong burner on, lol.

So you put the pot on the Cure, but turned on the Cult?

As a non Soccer watcher, this world cup was great. It was also a reminder of how fun it is to watch big sporting events in bars with strangers.
