Unless you are interested in the FA Cup quarterfinals (which has caused the rash of cancellations), there ain’t much going on. I have little interest since I selfishly need both finalists to be Top 6 in the Table, so that 7th position will qualify Everton for Europa League. Some people turn their noses up at it, and for lesser managers, or clubs unwilling to spend on the necessary depth, it can be a “poison chalice” as badass pundit Robbie Earle so deftly phrases it…but I find it fun. Plus, it makes Thursdays really great when NFL and JV NFL are also in-season.
A really irritating thing? No re-shuffling of the TV schedule. So the 4 matches stayed largely lumped together, with 3 in the 10:00 Saturday window. Headlining said lump? Everton hosting 8th position West Brom (NBCSN), who are only 4 points behind the Toffees. Combined with the FA results, Everton could basically wrap up Europe this weekend. But the Albion have made it their business to defy expectations and play cuntish, annoying footy against more talented sides this season. So…I’m wary.
Hull and Swansea are on CNBC, which will be an interesting battle with relegation implications. A win would see Swans surprisingly close to safety, given where they were at the halfway point. If you want generic mid-table rabble, Bournemoth v. West Ham are on Extra Time.
Sunday only brings one game, and it’s at noon to boot. Blech. The Redshite host 12th position Burnley, which doesn’t entice me very much.
See everyone next weekend for TVkakke, with a full schedule combined with Madness. Then a week off coinciding with the Sweet Sixteen.
