My mother-in-law marched in the Pride parade today. She’s not a member of the tribe, but is good friends with a fellow in the Vancouver Men’s Chorus, and volunteers as their bookkeeper. So, they let her march with them. I’ve been told she had a wonderful time; I didn’t go because – while I’m neither snob nor bigot – I don’t enjoy being one of 300,000 crammed along a 2.5 kilometre parade route. I’d much rather walk my dogs in a nice, shady park, which is hopefully devoid of people because they are all lined up along the street straining to beg the oiled-up gentleman to throw them some moisturizer samples.
So I didn’t get up to much today, but I did discover an “artisan ice cream shoppe” in relative proximity to my neighbourhood. I didn’t buy into most of their “origin story”, but that was some fucking good ice cream. Double scoop: Maple Bourbon on the bottom, apple pie on the top, and in a waffle cone. (Being allergic to chocolate sucks donkey balls – half their options come from the demon bean.) The bourbon had actual taste, and paired well with the sweetness of the maple. And they assured me they make actual apple pies to fold into the ice cream. Whatever – just make sure the milk is fresh & the cone has gluten.
Oh, and in case you missed it, the cat meows in Miami.

Kinda sorta. The less virulent approach is that many of the folks of Mexican roots here have lived in my area (near the border) for generations; far longer then my heritage has, and have a different viewpoint than the more recent immigrants. The reason many Americans have a bad attitude towards Mexicans is because their only exposure is to those who are running from something. Like it or not many the Mexicans that enter the country illegally head as far away from the border as possible for obvious reasons, and they don’t always make the best of neighbors. The majority of the Mexican-American folk here are glad to be American and not ashamed to admit it.
Before the SJWs get their feathers in an uproar, I happen to be very fond of the local Mexican culture. I’ve actually been theoretically adopted by both the local Mexican and Filipino communities and I’m eternally grateful. The information I just shared came from them, not me.

So I saw TWO movies in theater this week. Dunkirk, which was really good, and Spiderman: Homecoming, which was really fun!
Spiderman was fun. But being stuck in a theater twice in one week that sounds terrible.

I would say this is a mistake. It has its flaws but a great series. Insanely huge list of characters you have to remember, so probably not a binge watch. Watch an ep or 2, if you think you missed something watch that ep/scene again.

I do remember watching and really like The Shield.
I finally started watching season 2 of Rome. I like the series, but I imagine it must’ve been a frustrating watch live.
It wasn’t bad. It was worse how they “ended” it. Rome, Carnivale, and of course Deadwood were all robbed of a proper end. They just kinda did. Rome and Deadwood because money, Carnivale because ratings.
I loved (LOVED) Carnivale. I’ll still be waiting for a third season when the entire cast is dead.
It blows my mind that they’re still going on about making a Deadwood movie ten years after the fact. I can’t see any good coming from making that.

Dad in law cracked my fave syrah from le vieux pin here in BC. French style and as close as you can get to Rhone without the snootyness. Sadly only available here so i usually buy a few.
We had a central valley vineyard that did a great syrah but I’m pretty certain I drank them dry. Finding a new one has been a challenge so I enjoy when I encounter one.
