Earlier today, King Hippo  posted something called Nihilism Weekend, 2020 Edition.  Perhaps he is better versed in the English language than myself, considering what I titled THIS piece.  Them law talking dudes can be tricky sometimes.

But regardless of my lack of couth, we all had some fun earlier today on that post of course, as we always do.  Though I don’t know if the title was just random or accidental.  Or if he knew what he was doing.

Well it just so happens that one of Hippo’s favourite female singer’s birthday is today.  She turned 46.

Meh, I’ve still got 7 years on her.  CATCH UP ALREADY!!!!!

I bet swinging that bat makes for some nicely toned shoulders, huh?  Which I suppose would be nice if she didn’t kill you with the bat first.

Last night, I said I wasn’t going to explain the format.  Perhaps I was just being lazy.  So here goes nothing…

Four teams (one representing each of the Atlantic, Central, Metropolitan, and Pacific Divisions) square off in a two-round tournament. The three 20-minute games will be played 3-on-3.

In round one, the two Eastern Conference teams (Atlantic vs. Metropolitan) face off, while the two West teams (Central and Pacific) meet in the other bracket. The winners face off in round three.

Teams change ends at the 10-minute mark of each game. Shootouts decide any games that are tied after 20 minutes.

The point is that the same people who said it was okay and even admirable for Ellen and W to be friends and that people should be open-minded about their friends, even when those friends are war criminals with the blood of millions on their hands, but Joe Rogan is problematic and his endorsement should be rejected because he’s had on big meanies and said some ignorant stuff because as he’s said before, he’s an idiot entertainer. But at the same time, he actually is one of those people who is open to different ideas and points of view while still having some kind of principle that isn’t built on “Let’s kill people for my personal benefit and ideals.”

I would prefer if people also didn’t die in this country for their sex, race, gender, orientation etc. I don’t really know much about Rogan, so I won’t offer an opinion on this particular endorsement, and anyway, the whole point of endorsements is to garner net positive votes, so they’re kinda whatever. However, I’m not happy with how frequently Sanders has shown himself willing to compromise on the rights of various groups subject to discrimination for his economic dogma.

He’s also just very committed to a subset of economic issues, and he prides himself on not adjusting those views or taking small steps. When you’re that inflexible on a subset of issues you have to give ground on other issues. You have to ask yourself, what would he compromise to get his Healthcare for All? What are the issues he supports but hasn’t prioritized? Are you morally okay with prioritizing rights that way? Personally, I am not. I would prefer slower progress on all individual rights rather than leaping ahead on some while regressing on others

Worst thing I’ve ever had was Ramen made with scorpion peppers. My gf eats hot shit all the time. Has no qualms ordering hot at a Thai or Indian place. This stuff blew her away and she was embarrassed as hell because the cook actually came out to warn her before she ordered it. We took it home and I dilluted it with almost eight quarts of broth and it STILL lit me up. I like a solid amount of heat, but I don’t fuck with the big boys.

The walk up Signal Hill to Cabot Tower is 55 stories (according to my Fitbit) which is the same as the Washington Monument (which I have also walked up).

Try fish&chips with dressing and gravy. It sounds gross until you try it. Try it at Ches’s on Freshwater Rd. Otherwise, the seafood (cod) dining in St. John’s is outstanding.

In the earlier post we discussed clear-channel AM-radio stations, border blasters, and even Wolfman Jack. Now here’s “numbers stations.”

I used to listen to these on a hand-held shortwave receiver in the ‘90s. There were broadcast schedules posted in the early days of the web. Numbers stations are run by espionage agencies to send one-way codes, but others are more ambiguous. One station would just repeat the same recorded quip from Yosemite Sam, over and over, followed by numbers. It was crazy listening if you were high, and kind of spooky too.
